So would bringing him in help or hinder us in developing Silvagni, McKay, Sumner, LeBois etc. in becoming such a forward line?

In my opinion, it wouldnt add much.

We already have Wright and now a slew of other small forwards - no need to get another now

Dont necessarily agree that it would take 2 first picks to snare an elite player if they are coming off contract and elect to join us.

According to barass we are off Fyffe.

Look at the market. One first rounder for a broken down O'Meara and similar for B+ Prestia.

Shiel and 2MP would be two first rounders, IMO.

O'Meara will prove to be a once in a generation player. That first rounder will seem like the deal of the century...

But your point about the current market is spot on...

Apolgies RP, i read your post as suggesting we would need two first rounders for one player.
That is what I mean. We were asking for 2 first rounders for Gibbs (contracted but 29yo A grade player). I think Shiel would cost (and probably be worth) say pick 5 and 16. 2MP would probably be around the same if he really breaks out this year and kicks a heap of bags. His value is currently worth less than Shiel, but a good 50goal season from him and he will be around the same value.

He might do. I really liked him when fit, but there are still huge question marks about ability to stay fit and longevity. I was super keen to get him but that risk was not acceptable for where we are at.

Psst RP Gibbsies B/day Bryce Gibbs (born 15 March 1989)

RP, as ive debated with numerous crows, our Gibbs request was in reflection of the fact he was contracted and for that reason only. If Gibba was contracted and nominated a club it would be a low first only and with us giving something back.

The key to these guys or anyone of that ilk really is making sure you go hard when they uncontracted and getting them to nominate your club. This then considerably weakens the negotiating power of the holding club.

If we go down that path then my hope is that we use one first for each good young elite and a combination of 2nd & third's plus picks swaps. However its critically important they nominate us and are uncontracted. This would then still let us go after a gun RFA and use cash to get them - just hope its not a daisy type.

You can cross Peter Wright off the list, unfortunately. Re-signed with the Suns for a further two years.

That leaves Patton as the only key forward available of any note. GWS would want to sign him up fairly quickly, because the offers will come and the money will be big.

I think that if you are indeed right, and 1 or more are with us, it will be interesting to see how SOS trsdes for them. We very much need 1 more big draft year.

One target is realistic but two - whilst certainly possible - may be a stretch too far.

I feel a lot hinges on what happens with Gibbs at the end of the year. If he stays then we may settle for one big name, but if something goes through with Adelaide it paves a very clear path for us to go after two.

As for needing to hit the draft again...you are certainly correct. SOS won't trade out of a draft completely but he's not afraid to make some big calls.

My feeling is we'll trade into the 2017 draft to hit that hard + bring in some names discussed here, with the 2018 draft at least initially seeming to have been cut into. After 3 years of aggressive drafting and trading - plus perhaps a FA signing - we'll back ourselves to climb the ladder in 2018.

We have shown a desire to hold onto top 5 picks and that may not change, but I do think we'll be willing to deal our first if we are confident it falls outside of that.

Obviously FA's dont need to be traded for, but i dont know if there are any of the right fit for us, and barass70 has already dismissed fyfe.

All four of the FA I mentioned would be very good additions for different reasons. Obviously both Fyfe and Martin would cost mega bucks...but for the right team the deal would be worth it.

Barass knows what he is talking about but he would also acknowledge that things can change. A play for Fyfe may be unlikely, but I wouldn't rule it out completely just yet.

I wonder if we could entice Touk Miller back to Melbourne? Would be more than happy with a B+ mid with plenty of leadership joining the ranks, likely at a reasonable cost. Jack Martin would be another of great interest, but would cost too much.

Miller will have a big target on his back. Maybe not destined to be an A grade footballer but he won't be far off it.

Would love to see him in the middle alongside SPS and Cripps. Midfield would still need a lot of work but that's a pretty good young trio to work around.

I agree with some of the sentiment, but even uncontracted, 13 would have been about right for Gibbs. Contract obviously pumps that up a bit (my opinion was 13 and CEY or a high 2nd rounder).

Shiel is expected to be a top 5 player (at least by me), which is a class above Gibba's career so far (hope he absolutely kills it this year, and we finally see him become a superstar- completely possible seeing how determined he looks). Even uncontracted, every melbourne club would move heaven and earth for him. 2 firsts it would be, comfortably (again, IMO).

Had 2 on the wishlist this year .
Hopper for our 2018 1st rounder .
Fyfe for nothing other than $ as a FA .
Barass70 has nominated Hopper as a target and Fyfe as no longer being of interest to the club .
So for mine , it's Hopper and the draft , of which the latter could well be strengthened by the departures of Gibbs and perhaps even Kruezer .

Not fussed on Patton. Two knee injuries worry me. I'm all for quality mids

Injury history should not be ignored - but he played 23 games last year and fell just short of 40 goals.

Clubs will do their homework on him and if they deem the risk to be one worth taking then he's going to be in high demand.

We'd be silly not to be one of those clubs.
