The first series of Blackadder, The Black Adder, where Blackadder was effectively Mr Bean wasn't that good but the later series were brilliant.

.... Tbh there is not much American comedy that I find funny, most of it I find much too contrived and not very clever.

Yep Blackadder 2, 3 and 4 are gold but I didn't find the first series funny at all.

Almost all of the comedy I grew up with has dated to the point it just doesn't make me laugh. Had a steady diet of Monty Python, The Goons, The Two Ronnies, all that stuff. Thought it was the ducks nuts of comedy back then. Watch it nowadays and it barely raises a chuckle. The Australian stuff is worse. The Paul Hogan Show was compulsive viewing. It's just awful.

I still rate Fawlty Towers. Genius.

That's the thing, as I said before about Seinfeld, I really enjoy it and recognise the revolutionary nature of it, but it just doesn't tickle my fancy comically. But I love observational comedy, my favourite person in the world is Louis CK and he credits much of his work to Seinfeld.

Much in the same way there is no doubt the Poms made a lot of headway with that socially awkward comedy stuff ... but the Yanks just do it better for me.
