QAFL 2016

Broadbeach last night confirmed the signing of Panozza ... great get for them, to add to the 5 other NEAFL standard recruits...

It's all well n good to boast 5 NEAFL recruits but There's a big difference between someone on a NEAFL list who played the odd game & someone who's played several NEAFL games & performed at that level.

Ablett,

These 5 recruits have played many games for Southport on a regular basis over the past 3 seasons. !!!

It seems the strong sides are staying strong or have recruited to be even better. How's the sides at the other end going, not much noise out of Grange, sandgate and surfers... if these teams aren't adding quality it's hard to see them improving internally enough to compete..

It wasn't directed at you or Broady, more so at the General poster bragging about recruiting X NEAFL players yet they've played 3 games in four seasons & prounce around in there Southport training gear at their local clubs.

I'm hearing positive things about Broady, Improvement on the field looks certain n off the field with some good coaching staff additions, can you extend on this?

Ablett,,
I understand where you are coming from and I agree ...
Broadbeach is alight at the moment ,, a great feeling there with all that is going on,,, say with good recruits, player retention from 2016, new experienced coaches, not to mention the legend Jason Cotter as the newly appointed Football Director , the now best facitilities in the comp and the granting /approval from the AFL to host the Suns vs Lions pre season game on sunday week ... its a buzz ,,

Looks like the Maggies might take a few big steps backwards this year. They appear to have done next to no recruiting in the off season and have lost a huge chunk of their senior list. All three ruckmen from last year - Beer, Moreton and Barling - gone. The experienced Carseldine, Scott, McEvoy, Wenham, Dickfoss, Staker - gone. Young guns Copeland and Fletcher together with co-captain Woods all MIA so far this preseason. No talls and a very young list will see them struggle.

Beer, Morto and Woodsy will be back.

Unsure on Scott, but obviously would be huge loss - best player at the club. Weighing up retirement I imagine.

Copland and Fletcher at Lions NEAFL with Pershouse and Dennis also.

There are also some fresh faces, don't be fooled.

I heard Scott contemplating playing as a fifo in vic!

Is is the stupidest thing people have heard- Qld blokes being flown in to vic to play footy! Like there isn't enough half decent players in that part of the world so blokes need to be parachuted in!!
Hopefully these same clubs aren't complaining that the afl aren't doing enough to assist local footy...

Don't blame the players but seriously,

Gotta agree. Vic guys playing in QLD would make a lot more sense, but the clubs down there would have a lot more cash to splash around. And those country leagues are ultra competitive and winning means everything.

the best victorian players wouldn't bother going to the Loddon Valley league for $1k a game, so they have to look elsewhere.

Apparently Rozinki was such a success they asked for reccomendations, and old Luke Scott would have been near the top of the list. One of the best players in the QAFL is going to be an attractive proposition for these country leagues.

What's the points and salary cap. He'd be a 6 point player

Damo this is Qld footy, points system and salary cap never policed.
There will be a widening of the gap between Gold Coast and Brisbane clubs. Neither Morningside or Sandgate can afford big match payments and are contributing lots of players to the NEAFL and getting nothing in return. They rarely get a player to drop back.
Now instances of players dropping back to play QAFA level to double their match payments in Brisbane

London valley football league is in Victoria. If he went to that league there'd be a points system and salary cap

I heard a whisper there will be guys at a couple of Clubs in Division 2 getting paid more than anyone in the QAFL.

Extraordinary.

Division 2 is nominally really Division 4 to if you follow the waterfall NEAFL, QAFL, Div 1, Div 2. I would argue the biggest jump there is from Div 1 to 2 in terms of standard too. Some Div 1 clubs would be competitive with a few QAFL sides, but the Div 2 teams would be beaten routinely by 20 goals (as they should be)

Assume we're talking about Luke Scott.

Given he has played NEAFL and WAFL, he would have to be worth 4-5 points.

there is no salary cap, its purely based on points.

Rozynski wouldn't be worth much though, never played above QAFL level

I thought Andrew went to WAFL. Did Luke go too?

Not sure you can cheat the points system, as your players are registered on sportingpulse with a set number of points and your registered team for a week is automatically summed.

Actually that makes more sense now why Victoria clubs looking at qld players. Some damn good footballers up here who would attract minimal points in vic.

Yes. but you look at a guy like Rozynski. He was draftable 12-13 years ago. Yet when he no doubt could have had a long QAFL/NEAFL career, he played for the Magpies in Piney Hotel Cup and stuck with them in their return to QAFL in 09/10 when they didn't win a game.

As a result, he's probably played a maximum of 30 odd QAFL games and the rest in 'community footy'. So despite his ability, would probably be worth bugger all points.
