This is the exact kind of FAKE NEWS that originally inspired the Media *Shakes Head* thread. 5AA and The Advertiser should not be considered news.

AA will be well prepared this afternoon with arguments on how they pay more to the SNAFL for their license and the 'Equalization' Fund etc. to deflect away from admitting their actual position

Crows celebrate despite $1.3m loss

The Adelaide Football Club posted a total loss of more than $1.3 million for the last financial year, despite “across the board” improvements in key metrics, including sponsorships and attendances.

The statutory loss of $1,346,077 came despite a cash operating profit of $1,464,450 for 2016, itself down from $1,493,636 the previous year.

In a statement last night, the club cited “abnormal and non-cash items” for the statutory loss, including “depreciation of $1.347m, recognition of our game development grant of $1.1m and other distributions to stakeholders totaling $0.36m”.

It’s still a significant improvement from the $8.03m total loss declared two years ago.

The club was keen to emphasise the operating surplus, which was the headline of its media release and the key message offered to members at an annual briefing last night, with the total loss given only passing mention.

The previous year, the total loss wasn't even mentioned by the AFC, only "The Club also made contributions to the SANFL" without explaining it was to pay for its own SANFL team.

Can you imagine their bottom line if they actually had to pay rent out at West Lakes?

Cut and Paste from last year I'm sure, my comments in brackets/quotes.

Rob "Great Bloke" Chapman thanked the passionate Members, as well as loyal sponsors, who offer ongoing support through the ups and down of an AFL season.

“Each and every one of them has played a part in us returning to profitability (except for the other stuff we won't talk about) and their commitment is reflected in our home match attendances being among the highest in the League (thanks to Port Adelaide for showing us where to play),” Chapman said.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew "Super Fella" Fagan praised the hard work and determination of players, coaches and staff during what was a difficult year.

He added the AFL industry was also embarking on an important period with the need to design a more appropriate investment and distribution model.

“The AFL’s equalisation structure does not provide the flexibility to adjust to changing circumstances, nor reflect the financial construct and position of clubs like ours,” Fagan said. (in other words : Its the AFL fault that we made a loss so we'll call it a profit)

"A record year across nearly all revenue streams should generate a greater surplus (maybe he meant a greater loss) and facilitate further investment into our programs.

“I hope that this will be recognised by the AFL in the deliberations that will take place during the course of 2016 (delete, change to 2017).”

But surely they will bring up how that is offset by their non-payment of rent for West Lakes? After all, they are men of honour.

Great piece by R Earle in the Tiser today.
Not......

Flog
Was that in the same paper that yesterday had the headline on the back page

CROWS IN BLACK
Changes in the boardroom as Adelaide posts strong profit

despite them making a loss of $1.347M?

No surprise that they would today run a negative article about the PAFC's #sideshow

Remember when #godhatesfages first arrived from his ACT-based real estate hobby and after no doubt being briefed by the likes of Chapman and Ricciuto in ze Wolfschanze, rolled out with a straight face and called for balance in the SA media?

It's extraordinary that these beliefs endure a quarter-century into the national competition.

Hey RussellEbertHandball I thought Simon Hill made his point in a much less offensive way today but he then entered bellend territory once again by saying his "band" is named after the Judas Priest song The Green Manalishi.. even a half-assed musician worth his salt knows the song was written by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac!

*shakes head*

haha I will have to listen to it if they put it up on sound cloud.

If Port report a small real loss, it's all: management is incompetent, the afl need to step in, money wasted on China venture etc, etc,
If the Crows report a fake profit, it's all: financial powerhouse, Chapman and co are geniuses, generous contributor to grass roots footy etc, etc,
