Got a weird feeling Balic will request a trade at the end of the year. Anyone else got that feeling or is it just me?
Not if he is getting games in the seniors, I really dont understand how this kid will be behind others getting a game,
especially when he is a half forward/midfielder.
I would trade Sherro, Sutcliffe, before letting him go.
The way I see the list, we need a Ballas, replacement, forward/ruck, and another half back/back pocket specialist.
Langdon only signing a one year contract, gives me that feeling.

Really? Based on what? He is physically nothing like Ballantyne, and doesn't seem to play like him. His preseason has been underwhelming and he has done nothing at wafl to have him ahead of anyone. He needs to force his way in.

Sorry If I misunderstood BShark , I thought he mean he want to kept balic than sutty or sherriden. On the other end is time to kept an eye for a small forward to replace ballas in this year draft or trade table, instead of balic replacing ballas.

Yes. I can't see any basis for that meima. I am optimistic for Balic, but he needs to show something.

In fairness to Balic, every game he has played (for Peel both in Reserves and in League) he has been pretty good. He's just only played a few. Can't wait to see how he goes tonight against an AFL midfield.

Yeah I think he's shown enough at WAFL level to suggest we have a reasonable player on our hands, I think we all desperately want to see him stay fit and see if it can translate to the top level. Can he actually do that? no idea. But I think the coaches rate him very highly and if he can string together 4-5 games in a row without breaking down I suspect he'll be into the team pretty quickly.

I don't know what he need to show in his second year after an interrupted first year compare to sutty and sherriden who had more than 5 year in freo list. Just to clarify I don't think we all here compare balic to ballas.

Blue shark mentioned Ballantyne yes.

If he shows more than Sheridan or Sutcliffe that is great. But it probably won't impact whether they are traded or not.

If the price is right eg sutty going SA or Sheridan to Melbourne to exchange with one or two WA players coming back there is every possibility, as there is not much you can get from a second year player ( balic) with limited Afl exposure. I think balic wages is a lot cheaper also compare to those two thus free up some salary cap .

Looking at 2011 freo draft
16 ) tom sherriden
20) Hayden croz
29) Alex foster
58) lachie Neale
71) cam sutty
72) pass
83) nick lower

And check who freo can pick

Luke breust two year rookie (2009) at hawthorn before get selected again in 2011 draft
Ironic that Brad hill, Kersten and Hamling were taken after Crozier, Sheridan and forster. Yet we got all 3 of them.

Yeah what Iwas trying to say is that we will need to draft, trade for a Ballas replacement, due to his age, and stage of
his career.
It looks like we have the chance to get Carter, I still like Hunter Clark, to have those two off halfback , with our midfield
ensures we have all bases covered, pace, skill, grunt.

I know a few people are confused why Francis Watson (who is from the Kimberley region - a Fremantle academy zone) somehow managed to bypass the draft and become an Eagle. There has been a lot of misinformation so thought I'd try and clear it up by referencing the AFL Rules. Clause 14.2 (a) (iii) should hopefully clear things up for everyone.

14.2 Academy Eligibility

(a) Player Eligibility for Inclusion in Club Academy

(i) A Player is eligible to be included in a Club Academy only if the Player satisfies the age requirements under Rule 14.2(b) (subject to Rule 14.9) and, unless determined otherwise by the AFL, the Player is domiciled in that Club’s Academy Region.

(ii) Notwithstanding clause 14.2(a)(i), the AFL may direct a Club to include a Player in its Club Academy.

(iii) However, if the Player is from the Fremantle Docker's academy zone then rule (i) and (ii) above do not apply and said player will be directed to another AFL Club instead.

Lol.

The bit I'm confused about is that some are saying that after the AFL said that he wasn't eligible, Watson then had a choice as to whether he went to Freo???

Has it ever been reported that (1) he had a choice and (2) he rejected Freo?

Freo nominated him pre draft to be eligible as a cat B rookie (meaning he would be added to our list if he wasn't drafted in the national or rookie draft). They declined our nomination but put him on some magical AFL academy rookie B list. He wasn't drafted and then it appears West Coast also showed interest and he chose to go to them over us as he was a supporter of the Eagles as a child.

It seems ridiculous that he wasn't eligible for us but he was eligible for another club completely outside his zone. He was from the Kimberleys - our zone, and he played for Claremont - also our zone. But somehow he is eligible as a West Coast rookie? Makes no sense but this is the AFL. We'll get Jason Carter so I'm not that bothered but the AFL should really be answering a "Please Explain!"

Well every player is tradeable if the price is right. That is a meaningless statement because it is true by definition.

Forget about him , as I am more interested in duman playing alongside with my buddy nyhuis or Luke Ryan .

I think I stop now. No point argue as I am gear toward shark definition.

Yeh who cares about Watson. He is a non event to us. Our rookies in Darcy, Duman, Stradanica Cox ,Ryan are showing enough to get me really excited .
I know you will disagree with me with this , but what about grey and deluca , I am ready for them to put some pressure on sutty , sherriden or spurr on selection table by playing well in wafl

I reckon that was more to do with the CBA?

How many backline players do we need? We just drafted three, many four (Cox playing forward ATM) in the last draft and have one or two others on the list developing nicely that haven't really been given a go yet. Then we've got academy kids coming at the end of next year who look like decent talents. I'd much rather look at a ruck, a small forward and top up on midfield depth (an A grade talent KPF is welcome but no interest in more late/rookie KPF tbh).

Spurr, Ibbotson are 29 this year, with Johnson, Dawson nearing the end. Cox is looking good as a forward, and Logue
needs to find a spot yet, Mundy clone?
My opinion is that we have enough midfield talent in Bennell? Weller, Balic, Langdon, and Ross can even give Tucker a
run through there.
I expect our backline will be a work in progress, but I don't like seeing Sherro, Sutcliffe, used as halfbacks.

Strikes me that our drafting and trading needs are up forward. We need a at least 1 crumbing small forward with Yarran gone and Ballas aging and injured and a genuine 195+cm number 1 tall forward
