After all he will be held accountable by the people of the US (yep the rest of us get no say) in 4 years time.
Nah, politicians aren't given a mandate to do whatever they like by being elected. Democracy isn't just about the election itself - we aren't just electing a dictator for a term. The election provides the opportunity to govern, not an open book to do whatever they wish for 3 or 4 years. I couldn't care less about US domestic issues but I do care that citizens though out the world (especially children) are being exposed to this idiot with his highly discriminatory mindset. Just like we have post Abbott, Americans will look back in a few years and go "wtf were we thinking?".

As much as I would like to keep politics out of the great game/forum I note a couple of items.

Firstly according to all other circuit judges Trump's ban is perfectly legal, which is different to palatable.
Secondly Trump was elected according to all the rules of the elections in the US and he can pass whatever his mandate from the people allows. No matter what people think. After all he will be held accountable by the people of the US (yep the rest of us get no say) in 4 years time.
Lastly, Trump has taken the judge who blocked him to court. By most legal opinions (and the internet has plenty) the majority of the other circuit judges believe that Trump's executive order is not in contravention of American law. And that the judge in question was operating outside his jurisdiction. Most American legal commentators seem to be of the opinion that his decision will be struck down and he may be removed from office.

Who cares ,this is a thread on drafting and trading not Donald Duck Trump FFS.

Interesting new rules about academies.

If you finish top 4 - one top 20 academy pick
5-8, two top 20 academy picks
Outside the 8, as many as you can.

I'll be watching for clubs hitting the tank to miss finals to have a bumper season of academy players.
Still had to be in your zone isn't it.

Weller, Tucker (already running through) and Langdon are already inside our best 22-25. Bennell IMO plays a lot more forward than midfield on return (bit like how Hawthorn protect Cyril's hammys). That leaves just Balic. Yep... heaps and heaps of midfield depth... Mundy and D.Pearce (as useless as some think he is) need to be replaced over the next 1-3 years. Not necessarily saying use our top two picks on mids or anything but we need more IMO.

We've drafted a lot of mid sized defenders in Hughes, Nyhuis, Logue, Ryan and Duman over the last 2-3 years. By the end of the year I think we'll know better how confident we are in at least the first four (Duman is a rake and needs time) as well as knowing where we see them playing going forward. We'll also have a better idea of where Carter and any other academy kids may go in the draft and what position we see them playing for us as well. If Carter is a rebounding defender with elite talent I'd rather us just see how the above group do without MJ, Dawson, Ibbo (???) in the side for a year.
My concerns are that Hughes, Nyhuis, Logue, are playing for the one position, as you say mid sized defenders, not Quarterback playmakers.
As for Carter isn't he not available for another two years? By then the AFL will change the rules regarding the Fremantle football club, especially if this kid is a jet.
There are alot of players being tried as playmakers, all I'm suggesting is that maybe we require a
specialist?
Tucker appears to be suited to halfback, but now is involved midfield.
As for midfielders why did we let Barlow go then, and now Blakey is playing half forward?

Blakely is playing half forward for his development, especially given we have the inside mid roles covered with Fyfe, Neale and Mundy, plus S Hill balancing his work in there. Some others on the fringe including Balic as well.

I see Nyhuis as a small defender (Spurr), Hughes medium defender (Ibbo, Sutty) and Logue will be a tall defender eventually.

In the preseason training that I saw, we were always trying to get it into the hands of either Weller, Tucker or B Hill when transitioning from defence. I think they're capable.

Agree regarding the AFL and Carter.

Nyhuis is 188cm, 6 cm taller than Spurr and 2cm taller than Ibbo

Thought Spurr was 185cm but regardless, what's your point? The term small defender refers to the role they play not their height.
freo list Spurr at 182. I guess I'm questioning if small defender is his best role, whether Nyhuis has agility and speed to play on AFL smalls. He's closer in size to Fyfe than to Spurr

Plays the role well as evidenced by his GF performance. Whether he'll be an AFL player in any position remains to be seen.

In regards to height, it's not an issue, in fact if the agility is there, it's a real advantage. Hamling played on Walters last year and Dylan Grimes is very effective and has beaten Walters on a number of occasions, he's 193cm. Stratton at the Hawks is 189cm and has taken plenty of smalls. Scott Thompson (NM) is 193cm and has beaten Betts. Heath Grundy at the Swans (190cm), Morris at the Dogs (190cm). I'm sure there are plenty of other examples across the league but I don't watch many of the other games these days.

Clement and Parker were two talls that we produced that were effective on small forwards.

Sandilands isn't the greatest public speaker. I don't think a media career is forthcoming, nor a coaching career. I think he was mowing lawns before footy, he'll continue to play every year he's able. He is probably earning 600k+ and he deserves every penny.
Will be very unlikely for Sandi to not step into any club as a ruck coach when his career ends, he will be fine.

Greatest ruckman to ever play the game

Now let me firmly state that I'm happily backing in our recruiters decision to pick Logue in the draft and more than happy with what I've seen from him so far...but if we didn't this is the guy I would've liked us to have taken http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-03-22/swans-to-debut-firstround-draftee-florent-against-power

His father passed away last year and he was helping support his family. It seems a bit wrong to drag him across the country away from them imo.

Agree with you though, this kid will be a gun. Both Taranto and Florent were excellent in the All-Star game.

Know what you mean and I'm sure it would've been considered. Similar story to Partington at WC.

Ian Hill (Stephen and Brad's cousin) is playing his first WAFL colts game for Perth atm. Perth colts don't seem as strong this year so will be interesting if that sees Ian slide to later in the first round in this year's draft. Kid is a gun.

Aaron Naughton looks like he is backing up a good performance last week with another this week for Peel colts.
