Would have been handy if the umpire appointments page on the VAFA website for the praccies actually opened so the punters could see what games are being played and where. Just looking at Chilli's mush doesn't do it for me.

Will the over bloated VAFA administration ever get a half decent website up and going?

Wanting to be accurate with scores today. Bernards 5.6 to Uni Blues 5.3 at half time in sunny Moorabbin. Blues had best of Q1. Bernards had best of Q2. Good quality game.
Ended up about a 3-4 goal victory to Bernards. Fairly subdued last qtr. Solid hitout for both teams. Bernards will be happy as they rate Blues highly.

Obviously without knowing the strength of both teams, on the surface a great result for Bernie's.
Bernie's, Scotch and Carey being regulars in A Grade for the last decade and with strong feeders will be mighty hard to beat.
Maplebet is offering 7/1 on a GF not consisting of 2 of these 3 clubs. Was 11/2 a fortnight a go but have had zero takers. Seems the punters agree.

I have no particular reason to support Mr Bedford these days, but on this occasion I will because I think he's on the money.

Story is that at Pendleburybet it is odds-on he's right.

Perhaps. But we will never know. Because if Gil was asked, he'd deny it. Deny even bringing it up at any meeting. Infact he might have even forgotten totally about it.
But a great result regardless for two great teams to play at this venue. The VAFA continues to support and get things right most of the time.
For the love of the game..

Bedders is absolutely spot on and Uni Blues (rightly) use their contacts with the top man to get access to grounds that others cannot. Last year DLS played Uni Blues at Seaford on the back of Gil’s direct intervention. He also obtained access to Gosch’s paddock, the Holden (AAMI, Lexus) centre and other venues in years past. There is no secrecy around this.

If you have those sorts of contacts you would be crazy not to use them.

Spot on. A clubs contacts and networks are super important.

John Kanis has been quite forthcoming about the Blues being more than happy to seek the big man's assistance when required.

Candidly, I don't see the issue in what they've probably done on this occasion.

Had the VAFA had the wit to include the umpiring appointments on their website, who knows, they may have attracted a lot more onlookers.

The Nodders got touched up by Cranbourne on the weekend. Apparently, had a few out but the size of the loss took the wind out of their sails from the win over Knox the week before.
They play St Bedes at Brindisi St this weekend and expect a full complement to play.

Only practice matches, but shouldnt deflate the Nodders too much. Knox won 1 game in Div1 EFL, have lost plenty and i would hazard a guess, would really struggle in Premier B. Cranbourne won the SEFNL, and again, just guessing, but imagine they would be handy at worst in Premier A. I imagine most Premier B sides would get a bit of a wake up call playing them in the preseason.

Scotch and Bernards had a good hit out. Had 3 different people with 3 different scores. I thought Scotch shaded Bernards on scoreboard by maybe 2 goals or so. Some good play from both teams. Maybe 3 or 4 missing from both teams I believe. Good last game to prep for Round 1.

I would be tipping Scotch to beat Carey on that form today.

Lets get some tips happening
Old Carey
St Bernards
Peninsula (in an early upset- think OB will be stronger across the year)
AJAX. Going against my own predictions of Monash being strong, but holiday period and troubling preseason for the Blues
Fitzroy

Would love to know how sportsbet come up with these odds:
Old Scotch 3.00
St. Bernards 3.50
Old Carey 6.00
Monash 8.00
Fitzroy 12.00
Old Brighton 12.00
AJAX 15.00
Mazenod 21.00
Parkdale 21.00
Peninsula 41.00

To be honest I think that the top 2 are way too short and I'd happily chuck a few on OC @ 6 bucks....anyway

RD1 tips:
Old Carey v Old Scotch - Cracker to start the year off. Don't really know who to tip but based on practice matches I'll side with OS by 15 points.
Mazenod v St Bernards - St Bernards should win this by a few. Snow dogs by 10 goals
Peninsula v Old Brighton - Would be hard to tip the lads coming up from C that no one knows anything about, but Brighton usually take a while to get into the swing of things. OB by 3 goals.
Monash v AJAX - Flip if a coin for me. I'll take AJAX due to Monash taking a while to gel. AJAX by less than 12 points.
Parkdale v Fitzroy - Parkdale were unlucky with injuries last year and should win on their home deck. Parkdale by 20 points.

FWIW They must know about the gun FF recruit Blues have landed as it seems no one on here seems to have spotted it..........
