Is there any implication regarding Free Agents and PSD.

For example
We finish last and have 1st PSD.
Fyfe elects to be FA and we make an offer for Freo to match.
Freo shouldn't match cause basically we don't need to trade to get him and they lose the compensation pick which would be band 1.

Or is there a rule FA can't go into PSD and clubs must trade?
Are you suggesting that Freo would match, but then not agree to a trade?

At that point, he has a contract with Freo.

Does anyone have a list containing the following:
a) the picks we had in this year's draft,
b) which club they were traded from (and what the trade was), and
c) which player we took with each of them?

Would be an interesting read.

I'm pretty sure he doesnt have to sign the contract and could go to the draft, in which case Freo would end up trading him

Correct.

Fyfe can opt for Free Agency, if he agrees to terms with another club, Freo can block it by offering the same or greater. At that point, Fyfe either accepts the deal to stay with Freo or delists himself and goes into the PSD with whatever contract stipulation on his head that he thinks is fair.

It won't happen, because the AFL don't want to see Free Agency having a negative effect on player movement. Discussions would be had behind closed doors to make sure all parties involved are acting professionally.

The easy out for Fyfe is that he finds a club willing to pay stupid amounts of money for a couple of years - enough that Freo don't physically have the cap space to be able to match it. North Melbourne is a team that comes to mind, we'd be another. We could offer $4mil over two years, with a handshake agreement that an extension will later be signed for another 3 years at $650k per year. Fyfe effectively gets $6mil over 5 years, but it's structured in a way that prevents Freo being able to match the initial offer.

Or we can continue to bring in young players through the draft and trading instead of instead of Fyfe, who IMO, is at very long odds to leave Fremantle. Just as I think Martin is at very long odds to leave Richmond. I'm still of he opinion its the wrong time in our rebuild to get that elite FA.

Where did I say we should get Fyfe? The line of discussion was on the details of restricted free agency. Clubs like us or North Melbourne, who have plenty of salary cap space, would be Fyfe's best avenue to leave Freo if they're going to play hardball by trying to match offers and force a trade.

I didn't suggest you did say that. I was simply saying I'm doubtful either will move, and I don't think we should chase either as it the wrong time. We need to do what we have been doing IMO. Build through trading and the draft.

Why rule out any method of list management .
We must continue to draft elite talent .
Happy to trade for talent that tick all our boxes.
The right FA for FREE has to be considered .
We have huge salary cap space and it has been mooted this may increase by another 25%.
How do we meet our required cap spend ?

I haven't ruled out FA, I have ruled out Fyfe, I don't want him, never have. I'm far more interested in trying to get Hopper than I am in trying to get Fyfe. I'm far more interested in trying to get Harley Balic of Fremantle 's list, as Barass suggested our interest yesterday, than I am in trying to get Fyfe. I think its the wrong time in our rebuild to land that elite FA.

Fair enough .
I'm all for chasing Hopper and Kennedy too.
But of course they will have to be traded for .
I couldn't walk past Fyfe for FREE .
He is 25/26 years old and would only cost us $ which we have a truckload of and are compelled to spend .
He would be invaluable as a partner to Cripps and in the development of our young midfield in coming years , even more so if Gibbs departs whose exchanged draft pick might be used to help secure trades such as Hopper and Kennedy etc .
I think we can achieve all 3 facets of list management at seasons end .
Drafting , trading and FA .

Just another point to consider, if we finish bottom 4 and Kreuzer attracts an offer worthy of band 1 compo (which I believe should be strongly considered), that deal would be billed by attracting a Fyfe by FA.

Not sure if want to be taking Fyfe at the expense of Kreuzer. I would only consider if it costs us nothing but cap space
