it's because you're sooking that you think it's not fair when people want to assess Hawthorn and O'Meara differently. "Salivating over his injury", give us a spell. I'm sure everyone feels very bad for Jaeger but that doesn't make Hawthorn immune to criticism and it's ludicrous you think that it should do

Err...that's the most badly argued point I've read for a while. I'm still trying to draw lines between about three badly put together metaphors

I think I'm meant to feel defensive or something but I just feel bored/confused

My post wasn't about Hawthorn being immune from criticism - my point was simple - that there are quite a few posters wringing their hands over what is essentially a young player with a long term injury. It's kind of weird to be honest

Clearly not ideal obviously but from what's coming out of the club the tendon is now ok. If it wasn't he wouldn't have gone so well comparatively at the start of the year. If your tendon sucks and ur slated to debut for your new club in R4/5 there's no way you come back 2 months earlier for no reason.

His actual knee/knee cap may not be perfect atm or ever in the future but a knee doesn't have to be to function really well. But it still has to function really well at the end of the day - which is what all this seems to be about currently.

If his current issues are just bony stress related then great, that goes away and hopefully he'll be back on track literally and figuratively in no time.

He certainly has some work still to do by the sounds of it but he got there at the start of the year and surely he can do it again. There's no rush this year - as it turns out we are a shadow of our best years atm.

The Burgoyne comparisons others make are a little messy IMO as they are completely different issues and circumstances. But it speaks to the idea that the Hawks are willing to work hard to get someone right for the long term benefit of the player and club.

As I said earlier, it's a little frustrating as a supporter in here atm as we have no comeback to anything anyone says or assumes. We have all the same info everyone else has but we all interpret it differently.

Unfortunately this will just go round and round and back and forth for weeks.

And he has broken down every time he gets close to full fitness but including practice games is a bit rich

can you quote me the posts where people are having a go at Jaeger for being injured instead of criticising Hawthorn? No?

I find it quite titillating that certain people are taking great delight in this situation. 60 years of being bent over by the Hawks has left teams and their supporters mentally unhinged.

But he was a full fitness at the start of the year and didn't break down... Andrew Russell said so in his interview yesterday. He copped a knock and something else happened in terms of bony bruising to the knee cap.

I said he played a few games in a row. He did. Who cares what they were. If he didn't cop a knock to the knee he might still be playing.

That is an imaginary thing Hawthorn people seem to think.

I'll give you a rundown of general consensus:

JOM: very unfortunate for such a talent

Hawthorn: They stuffed up getting said unfortunate talent and it's backfired spectacularly
 
The Jaegerbomb (sic) takes on a whole new meaning.

Sure he's unlucky he'll never reach the AFL heights he could have, but it's not unlucky at all (lucky even) compared to reality stories.

He'll still have heaps of money for investment on top of made already, let alone media opportunities etc....

Tell the cleaner that works hard 40hrs a week at less than a tenth of the wage (whilst actually working as paid for) how "unlucky" O'Meara is and feel sorry for him....

He broke down after playing 3 games, this isn't an opinion this is a fact. He was still building up to full fitness, hawk fans were the ones who stressed this at the time. So many of them were trying to tell us that once he gets to peak fitness he would be unstoppable. If you don't believe me go back and read the threads.

Sadly he never got there because his knee broke down again. Who knows what the real story is, the Hawks are obviously lying through their teeth, at the time they said he could of played but they just wanted to be conservative, will 8 weeks is as conservative as it gets.

Why bother lying about it unless they want to hide something?

Respectfully, I think you've missed the point here. His knee was 100%. He may not have been at full match fitness and 100% battle hardened but his knee was fine from the info the club's put out in the last 24hrs.

FWIW I said 6 games in a row. It is true. I didn't say he only played 6 games for premiership points. 6 games are 6 games - no spin needed. I wanted to highlight he played 6 consecutive games of football without an issue. Some were practice games, so what?

EDIT: He played, he made it through. He coped as the intensity switched from practice games to regular games. He might still be coping if he didn't cope the knock.

He may have been back sooner if they had found out he'd developed a bony issue earlier. But they didnt. They have now and hopefully he'll be back before too long. Not sure there's a big Hawthorn lie fest going on.

You probably have already but if you have a read of the Age link posted up a bit you'll get a great sense of what's going on.

A half game at 50% is not counted as a game, you might as well include intra clubs matches, hell why not a day when he gets through a training session.

I hope the kid comes good, just like I hope Brayshaw can overcome his problems, and I have consistently stated this but some of the crap coming from Hawk fans is just embarrassing. Hopefully what was in that article was correct, although it does highlight that the Hawk medical team aren't as all powerful as they are made out to be if it took them so long to miss the problem. Of course I'm sure something will put a spin on that as well.

So he's had about 6 weeks solid training, he must be close to getting a game

If his knee has some accrued some general issues that arent his patella tendon it may not tolerate certain "accidents" as well as a perfect knee might. Knocks etc included. That goes for everyone in the AFL, not just Jaeger. But at the same time it doesn't mean it wont.
