I posted it in the chicken little thread but is probably better placed here.. Given KPD is our strength and with Jones, Marchbank, Plowman, Mcreadie, Silvagni... Would a trade with GWS Weitering for Kelly & Hopper be a good result for us, and is it something they would consider?
Its actually not a half bad idea.

But please don't suggest trading Weitering because most around here have no ability to understand List Management, and you will be outed as a non-believer

Even with all their picks, the only talls that GWS have traded are Boyd, McCartin, Marchbank and Jacksch, the first three of which were not by choice and didn't net any trade wins.

What players don't you think we can fit in? We only have McKay, Kerr and Macreadie developing in the seconds.

I am not interested in outing anyone as anything but just because someone doesn't agree with your idea of managing a list it doesn't make them incapable of understanding the concept.

Instead of denigrating others how about you actually put forward an argument as to why it would be a good idea?

We have an abundance of quality defenders

We are totally bereft of quality mids

Getting 2 quality young mids for the loss of 1 defender makes a bit of sense. Particularly when one of those mids is considered league's top 5

Don't worry about the noise of Key forwards or more defenders, for now.

Priority is midfielders and that was the case well before yesterdays game.

Think you mean McCarthy there. They've also traded out Phillips, but keep in mind how few genuine key talls they have, particularly in defence. It's Davis, Mohr and daylight.

They're hoping that Finlayson and Sproule can put on the size, but right now they're using Corr and Tomlinson even though they're undersized. They've hung onto so many because the ones they have are more running, versatile types, and they want to see if they can turn them into brutes.

That said, this year they will definitely let a couple go, along with Dawson Simpson and Downie.

Thankyou, I wouldn't question the validity of your points but I just don't see that the Club would be willing to trade out Weitering at this stage.

I think you have gone quite early on the abundance of quality defenders comment.
A few good games and promising signs doesn't mean a long successful career.

I agree we desperately need mids but would rather trade picks for Kelly and Hopper or anyone SOS thinks will help our side.

The calls to trade Weitering are laughable. The intangibles he brings to the backline can't be measured.

No one is throwing Weitering up because we dont think he is any good, quite the opposite.. He is good enough that we could land 1 elite midfielder and 1 potential elite mid without hurting that much. It would also mean that we would keep our top draft pick and any potential pick from Gibbs trade and be able to reload through the draft.

Although I think there is buckleys chance of it happening, AFL clubs are just not this progressive when it comes to list management where in a sport like NBA these type of trades happen reguarly.

The only recent example of a #1 pick being traded in the NBA was Andrew Wiggins who was traded because the Cavs wanted to load up on ready made players to win a ring with Lebron in his prime. Boston traded it this year to drop down 2 places but also pick up another 1st round pick next year.

Anthony Bennett, Derek Rose, Andrew Bargnani, Andrew Bogut, Dwight Howard are all recent #1 picks who have been traded in the past 10 years, also have Greg Ogden who was waived by the Blazers and now Blake Griffen who has walked on the Clippers.

None of them with the exception of Bennett who can't even get keep a spot on a Euroleague team, were traded early in their contracts. Most were traded as they were approaching Free Agency and their teams didn't want to /believe they could keep them on their roster.

Our Chris Webber trade still haunts me

Yes i accept that and there are differences in the salary cap and contract situation that makes player movement easier, but it shows a different mentality between AFL clubs and NBA. Although looking back through AFL #1 picks Boyd, Scully, Deledio, Cooney & Goddard have all been traded.

This guy still wasting away in the VFL......

while ruckman Braydon Preuss (63 hit-outs, 18 possessions) was equally impressive.

Yes, they'd rather get rid of Goldy, but when will that happen and can Preuss wait that long??

You are kidding yeah?

The imbecilic nature of this board still amazes me.

Not sure where to start ... not sure whether to bother.
