It leaves McKay with a four year head start on BSOS.

By the time Ben is ready for senior footy (2021 would be the assumption, he'd have two years development by then) Harry will hopefully have 50+ senior games under his belt. If we continue to develop him properly, he should also start to spend some time in the ruck by that stage - and it wouldn't surprise me if we have plans to move him into the ruck down the track (ala Tippett) given he has the height, jump and is reasonably clean at ground level to follow up.

By 2021 we could have Lynch and BSOS holding down FF and CHF, with McKay spending 60-70% time in the ruck and pushing forward to kick goals like Kreuz is doing right now.

Imo that's too top heavy, if we have confidence in McKay then I'd be concentrating on mids.
If we are going after lynch then I'd trade

Think it's too early to even contemplate trading McKay. Even if lynch is in our sights for next year.

Sell McKay now and get a pick 10-20 for him. Give him a few more years and if he comes on he could be worth 2 top picks.

Let's not do a Josh Kennedy all over again

A ruckman who is a more than capable forward rotation, plus two tall forwards, is too top heavy? Adelaide are running Walker, Jenkins, Lynch and Otten up forward, Mitch McGovern would be in there for Otten if he wasn't injured, and they've got Jacobs in the ruck.

Furthermore, if we recruit Lynch and Silvagni, and trade McKay, at the end of 2018 - who is playing forward while Ben develops?

Don't have an issue with McKay being forced out down the track, and that would be the best time to trade him for maximum return, but you don't go trading a 21 year old KPF because you've picked up an 18 year old who you think will make him surplus to needs a few years down the track.

No direct insight.

We know SOS loves his KPF's, so why not aim for one of the best?
We've parked away two years of savings, pretty much signed up all the 'must-have' players and now will have an extra 2 mil on top of that to put into place the last piece of the puzzle.

All indications point here to me, but I may be way off.

Harks, IMO I don't see Lynch leaving the GCS. I think the clubs management will do everything in their power to ensure Lynch and May remain the Lynchpins of the club. Even if that means seeking help from the AFL to ensure it. FWIW Id love Lynch here.

There is nothing wrong with 1 big KPF, we will still have Curnow (who I see as being a fwd) and Jack.

Lots of teams only have 1 key fwd

Just not sure why we'd trade McKay on the basis that we think we'll get Lynch and we hope BSOS is the next Tony Lockett.

If we actually get Lynch, we should still be playing Lynch and McKay in the same side so that guys like Jack and Charlie can take lesser defenders. If BSOS turns about to be a gun AFL forward in his second year, then maybe we consider trading McKay in 2020 when he's actually shown something to justify a club paying decent value for him.

Trade him now for a pick in the late teens (16+) and hope that Lynch falls into our lap and BSOS is an 18/19yo prodigy.

OR

Develop him, play him alongside Lynch until BSOS is ready, then trade him for a top 10 pick if we can't justify keeping all three.

I see a lot of risk in trading him, and not much reward.

Question. Why are we talking about trading McKay?

Theory (not rumour) put forward a page or two back that if we have Lynch coming our way as a free agent in the same year we draft Ben Silvagni, that McKay may be surplus to needs and could be used as trade-bait.

Not completely beyond the realms of possibility, but I can't see it happening unless/until we have Lynch and BSOS on the list. Not the kind of move you make pre-emptively because it has the capacity to backfire spectacularly.

Lot of what ifs and buts. Not really a possibility in the next 3 years and that's if we got Lynch, which is a long shot. I have faith in Harry. I'd like to be excited about having a young tall talented forward before discussing shipping him out

I personally think it's stupid to go after Lynch as i have faith in Mckay, Jack, Charlie and future SOS. I would rather go after a Shiel, Sloane, Dalhous, Fyfe if we are to target a FA

If our defence is set (which i like to think)
And
Mckay, Charlie, SOS and potentially BSOS are developing in to long term forwards (which i think they are)

Then if the opportunity arose to pick up a FA this year (Fyfe, Dusty, Rocky) then we would be silly not to. We could potentially add FA, Kelly, Hopper with the loss of 2 1st round picks. All of a sudden our midfield goes from lacking depth to the best in the comp.

Where has this buy low sell high crap come from? Can someone give an example of this as i don't think there is one.

SOS likes to buy low, yes but he is not in to selling high. I would not like for him to trade Williamson for a 2nd rounder because it's an upgrade on where we got him.

Doubt it is meant for our kids, more our older players

Henderson - We manufactured that trade, where we ended up with pick 8

More along those lines
