Welcome Harley Bennell (To make long awaited Dockers Debut!)

I'm not allowing myself to get excited about what Harley can provide to Freo in the future, but I'm celebrating what he was able to do today.
Congratulations to him, Freo and Peel for getting him through a match. Fingers crossed he pulls up healthy and is raring to go again next week.

Pretty much just played Harley watch today at the Peel game, he was heavily managed, not only in instructions to stay deep almost in the square for most of his bursts but also to limit his high intensity moments, no repeat tackling efforts, no spoiling etc, you could see he was very mindful of this all game which lead to a few disjointed moments, half leads and the likes.

Despite all this when the ball was in his vicinity he was very clean, after blowing out the cobwebs his first touch or two, great.

He was also regularly doing small low intensity shuttles to keep warm, not once did Myles or the other physios give him any extra attention and he looked completely fine to me.

Bring on next week!

We're at round 17 now, so my thoughts are.

Rd 17 - he's 'played' 2 WAFL games
Rd 18 - he's 'played' 3 WAFL games
Rd 19 - he's 'played 4 WAFL games
Rd 20 - he plays the home game against Gold Coast! With the knowledge he will play this game and be rested the following week to avoid him getting on a plane.
Rd 21 - he 'plays' his 5th WAFL game
Rd 22 - he plays last home and away game for Freo.

Banks 2 games for Fremantle. Avoids getting on a plane. Qualifies for WAFL finals.

This is how it should go down provided there are no set backs. I put 'played' like that because they may wish to list him again but make him sit out to manage his playing time.

Like a few I think he NEEDS to play at least a game for Fremantle. That's why he was recruited, not to qualify for WAFL finals.
fine by me.

Hell.... I don't even care if he just plays the one AFL game VS Richmond at home in round 22. I just want him fit

I think he will play 3-4 wafl games then all the rest of the afl season. If he does well in the afl he ain't going back to wafl footy.

Assuming he stays fit, they will qualify him for Peel finals, then play him AFL and then back to Peel for the finals. Ross pretty much said as much.

I am guessing like everyone else but I reckon this is on the money apart from the fact that once he plays AFL he will never go back.....regardless of peel qualifiers

The goal was text book but he did a couple really classy things.
His first(?) touch for the game was from an amazing pick up, looked like he didn't bend over just magiced the ball into his hands.
In the second he brought out his chipping wedge while wrestling and hit a Peel bloke on the chest.
Other than that couple of nice leads, forced a number of frees for and didn't get sucked into flying for marks.
It was pretty clear that he was instructed to not go above 70% during the game and was rested regularly.
Didn't look like he was in any trouble after he came off for the last time, he had completed his (slightly more than) 60 minutes.

highlight at 12 seconds in.
In the rain the degree of difficulty is extraordinary

Going to be exciting having them both up forward. Speaking of Sonny's talent as well did any pick up that neat handball receive he collected up the wing on Sunday, the handballer misjudged a bit and Sonny pivoted around to receive from his right side instead just perfectly in the space of about 250ms.
