Redpath is playing senior football at the Bulldogs, would be tough to convince him to spearhead our reserves.

I'm for it if SOS is keen, though.

For the love of God, he isnt going to nominate 3-4 clubs, or walk out of the Giants with no clubs nominated.

He'll sit down during the season, consider all the offers put to him, accept one of them, and nominate that club during trade week (or re-sign with the Giants before hand).

THERE IS NO BIDDING WAR. THERE NEVER IS A BIDDING WAR.

How many time does this need to be explained to you?

Can you ring the club and explain that to Trigg too ??

To qualify - is it clear whether Trigg is talking about trade deals or contract deals? Because it seems that's where the contention lies.

There is absolutely a bidding war when it comes to offering contracts to players. NM offer Kelly $1mil per year for 9 years, then they hear that we've made an offer so they push their offer up to $1.1mil per year, we see that and decide we have to increase our offer as well, etc. etc. The player manager is like a real estate agent - they'll play 2 or 3 interested buyers off each other without anyone knowing what the numbers are.

Once a player decides on a club, though, there's no more bidding to be done in terms of trade collateral. If Kelly tells North he's not interested, GWS have no reason to ask them for Pick 2 because Kelly won't agree to the trade, it's a waste of time and effort even picking up the phone to North. They deal with the club their player nominates, and hold out for the best deal they can get. There may have been 6 clubs posturing for Kelly's services earlier on, but 5 of them have become irrelevant.

Correct.

What we don't know, and no-one really will, has he (a) decided to leave the Giants & (b) decided which club he wants to go to ??

If it is a 'no' to both questions, there will be plenty of offers & counter-offers going on up until (a) it is announced that he is re-signing with the Giants or (b) he wants to be traded to club XYX.

A club offering more to the Giants in a trade isn't going to sway the player to change (a) or (b). A player has to agree to be traded to the new club.

I think it's becoming more and more likely he leaves.

If he wanted to stay, he'd have resigned, so he's obviously giving major consideration to leaving.

GWS were considered dangerous last year, and flag favourites this year, yet there are still glaring issues with their performances as a team. There's no guarantee they win a flag in the next 3-4 years with Sydney, Adelaide and (shudder) Richmond all in serious contention for at least the next few years.

There's rumblings that a few other GWS players are unable to get their contracts sorted because GWS need to know what is happening with JK first. Holding out til the final hour then re-signing at the expense of tens of thousands of dollars in your teammates' pockets is going to cause some major disruption.

Factor in that he'll get more money in Melbourne, will be closer to family, will have more post-career opportunities with a Victorian club etc.

Personally, I'm leaning towards letting him go somewhere else unless he's willing to sign for under $900k per season. Hopper, Smith and Pick 3 does a lot more for us than Kelly, if we can get that done while everyone else is focused on the big fish.

Pick 1-3 and Gibbs (to Adelaide) for Kelly, Hopper and Smith (and a 2018 2nd) works better for me.

Works pretty well as a threeway trade I reckon:

Gibbs -> Adelaide
Lever -> Bulldogs
Pick 9 + Redpath -> Carlton

Flow-on effects:

Casboult goes to the Dogs as a FA filling the gap in their forward line. We get Pick 21 as compensation.
9 + 21 gets Hopper and Smith.
56 gets Balic.

OUT: Gibbs, Casboult
IN: Hopper, Smith, Balic, Redpath
DRAFT: 3, 38

Adds quality and depth to the midfield and forward lines. We lose a flexible mid and a key forward, and gain an inside mid, outside mid, small half-forward and a key forward. Draft for more mids...Bob's your uncle.
I would be really happy with that Gibbs trade, I really like redpath.

If you are that obvious about it then you're right but you can do something similiar.

We offer a 5th round pick for Tippet and get Zak Jones for a 3rd or someone similiar.

We pay tippets wage and get a discount on another target.
I mentioned as much in a later post. :thumbsup:

Having 3 firsts this year opens up so many doors for us. Unfortunatley, as much as I want to keep Gibbs, if he wants to go home then this deal benefits everyone.

We look pretty much a cert to finish with a bottom 3 pick.

Granting Gibbs leave to head to Adelaide is a no-brainer. Pick 16 this year plus a second next year (or vice versa) works for me.

Presuming its this year we get the 1st (and Levi leaves), then 3, 16, 21, 38, 56, 74 should be enough to play around with for trades. 3, 16 and 21 can be offloaded for Kelly, Hopper and a fringe player, leaving us an extra 2nd rounder next year.

Edit: I also like the pick 9 + Redpath to us/ Lever to the Dogs/ Gibbs to Adelaide deal above. Casboult to be released to head to the Kennel as well to cover for Redpath, with pick 21 coming back ourway as F/A Compo. Looks pretty fair on paper.

3 and 9 to be traded to GWS to get Kelly, Hopper and Smith. Send Boeky West for Balic.

Take 21, 38, 56, 74 to the draft.

Out: Casboult, Gibbs, Boekorst
In: Redpath, Kelly, Hopper, Smith, Balic, 21, 38, 56, 74

Didn't say home Was Carlton,
Didn't you want 2 first round draft picks for Gibbs..

The Crows board is talking about the Dogs as the Lever suitor.

Crows lose Lever, 18, gain Gibbs 33
Dogs lose 10, Redpath, gain Lever, Casboult
Giants lose Kelly, Hopper, 33, Gain 3, 10
Blues lose Gibbs, 3, gain Kelly, Hopper, Redpath, 18

If we added Kelly Hopper & Balic to our midfield in 2018 alongside Cripps Murphy Curnow and the improving Charlie SPS Fisher Cuningham & Polson its a game changer

Struggling to see how that improves the top end of our list or accelerates our progress.

Plus Redpath to cover for Casboult while McKay develops. It kinda works.

I reckon GWS would nibble at a top 3 pick and pick 9 for (Kelly, Hopper and Smith).

Thomas would be all over Boeky I reckon too. He loves the outside players (Hill etc). If Balic has all but walked out of the club and is uncontracted, I reckon they'd take it. He wouldnt cost more than our 4th in any event.
