If we added Kelly Hopper & Balic to our midfield in 2018 alongside Cripps Murphy Curnow and the improving Charlie SPS Fisher Cuningham & Polson its a game changer

Agreed. This season, we're minimum 3 midfielders short.

Gibbs leaves and 3 midfielders of that quality come in, we're much more competitive next season. That's not including the (hopeful) improvements of the kids you mentioned.

I'm willing to invest heavily in the midfield this season and the forward line for next if that's what it takes.

This thread is insane reading.

I reckon July is peak insanity though......

......until August.

You ain't seen nothing yet....b-b-b-baby.

Just wait until we cross-pollinate sexism vs trading vs political correctness vs draft vs coaches vs half-mongrels...........gonna get messy. :)

Im one of the main advocates screaming for a key forward, but Im coming around to the idea we F/A one of the established ones between now and 2020 (Lynch, Cameron, Patton) to go with McKay.

They're like hens teeth though.

Plus Redpath to cover for Casboult while McKay develops. It kinda works.

I reckon GWS would nibble at a top 3 pick and pick 9 for (Kelly, Hopper and Smith).

Thomas would be all over Boeky I reckon too. He loves the outside players (Hill etc). If Balic has all but walked out of the club and is uncontracted, I reckon they'd take it. He wouldnt cost more than our 4th in any event.

Who's Thomas? Balic for 4th is about right but happy to do a swap for Boekhurst & White ;).

I'm not against getting Tippett for short term either. He's a better ruck than forward and would be a great foil for Kruezer. Should only cost dollars and not good picks though. Add Zac Jones and it's even better

Hopefully then SOS can add a few more like Williamson Polson Kerr with later picks and a couple of good rookies. We could still have Casboult pick, Round 3, Round 5 etc

pfffttttt.....that aint got nuthin' on the many weird n wonderful ways the Carlton F.C. are gonna rip off all 17 other Clubs :)

I'd offer Kelly 4 yrs at 1.2 max.
Gives options to both club and player.
Surely he'd prefer that than being stuck at that shithole Arden St for 9 yrs with no chance of escape
And a big NO to Redpath. Downgrade on CAS.
He's already had multiple knee reco's

Struggling to see why a) Redpath would leave, and b) why the Dogs would give him up.

Cloke will give the game away at year's end. Boyd is bouncing between AFL and VFL level. Stringer has come crashing down to earth after one good year.

I like Redpath, he'd be a great partner for McKay moving forward and would allow Charlie to play a bit more freely. Dunno how we get it done aside from dangling a cheque though.

Even when fit Redpath has not been getting regular games in 1sts.

Dogs $ cap probably getting squeezed by all those "premiership players" thinking they deserve big $$ - eg (I can't handle a tag) JJ.

Blues might be very appealing on both points.

Cas is out of contract, don't see how that nets us 21
Free agency after a plus 500K and 3 year deal netting us a second round compensation (3rd tier) which would put the pick directly after our non-existing second round pick, essentially giving it back to us (after Geelongs pick).

I have no doubt I will get smashed for this given I am a newbie but.....stop the dreams of Tom Lynch from the Suns. He won't be leaving Gold Coast and will sign a new deal before the beginning of next season. Even with the uncertainty in their coaching staff (Eade likely to be replaced) he loves the GC and has built a life there. He will also get a big pay rise and has excellent sponsorship arrangements there.

Source - his own mouth (I am friendly with some of the Suns guys and have a few drinks/play ps4 with them every few months).

We don't need him anyway - McKay and Curnow is our Franklin/Roughead combination

I meant Lyon. Brain fart!

Its yes to Tippett only if Kruezer is traded/ leaves as cover in that ruck/forward role (and for negligble cost). Otherwise it's a resounding no from me.

Im a huge Lever fan.

Weitering, Marchbank, Jones, Plowman, McCreadie is a pretty stacked tall back line for the future, I don't think we can fit him in.

Bummer as Gibbs for Lever would be a great starting point for a deal.
3rd club would get involved for sure.

For the love of God, he isnt going to nominate 3-4 clubs, or walk out of the Giants with no clubs nominated.

He'll sit down during the season, consider all the offers put to him, accept one of them, and nominate that club during trade week (or re-sign with the Giants before hand).

THERE IS NO BIDDING WAR. THERE NEVER IS A BIDDING WAR.

How many time does this need to be explained to you?

Incorrect - there is a bidding war for the $ on the players contract.

I understood that is why Steele went to Saints rather than us - they offered more $.

Interesting...any other bits of info you can share given your connections?

Every chance things may pan out that way, but don't bet on it just yet.

I have no idea how correct this information is - it is opinion only from people involved in the AFL (not Suns players) but:

1. Martin will go to Swans or Hawks. Swans most likely but Hawks are pushing hard
2. Hawks want Lever (with Martin). They believe those two can push them into flag contention next year
3. Charlie Cameron will go to Brisbane for pick 18 (their second round pick). Lions see a good small forward and 2-3 extra mids as the last piece of a young puzzle
4. Kelly most likely to stay at GWS but if he leaves it will be to us or Essendon. North has no chance and neither do the Saints. If Dusty goes Richmond could be a late player given they have good picks. Kelly unlikely to decide until after the season ends.
5. We will get Dylan Shiel as a free agent. He wants to be at Carlton

Heard you five hours ago! ;)

Mate I love him. He isn't arrogant, he is a genuine fantastic bloke. Always has time to sign autographs, talk to kids etc. Behind closed doors is very respectful etc. Believe me every time I see him I tell him he will look better in navy blue but it just won't happen! Our only hope would be a new coach that he cannot stand.

The Tom Lynch comment - bet your house on. Everything else I am reasonably confident given the source, but would not place any money on it.

Sounds exactly like what SOS would tell him to say.....
