Was looking back at 2014 randomly, and noticed something quite peculiar about the North/Geelong semi final that year, and going back in this thread to the time of it's occurrence i didn't see anything about it.

Scores were as follows, and each side had the same behind tallies at each break.

Nth Melb...........7.1.43.....9.6.60......12.9.81.....14.14.98

Geelong............5.1.31.....5.6.36........8.9.57.....13.14.92

Wouldn't be too many times that's happened would there?

As I'm just doing this manually from afltables.com, I encourage anyone to double-check for accuracy

There was little chance I wouldn't have missed some, but I was only concerning myself with the H&A season.

My bad re 2012, you're right, Riewoldt won the Coleman but was not the first to reach 50 goals for the season. I was just looking at each year's leading goalkicker.

Thus, if Franklin doesn't kick 3 and Daniher doesn't kick 5 this coming weekend, it will be the latest ever during the H&A season that 50 goals has been reached.

That's all I found. I might've made a mistake though, happy for others to debunk.

It is very rare going by your research RTB! And even more remarkable is that over a century of VFL/AFL was played before it was even done once.

I think i might have been a bit dirty on footy following that defeat to bother with any intricacies of the scoreboard, and as what happens at times, you discover something interesting when looking for something else entirely.

emuboy.

Incidentally, Freo were Fitzroy's last opponent, Richmond were Fitzroy's last opponent in Victoria and Freo's first game was against Richmond.

Also, that R1 1987 game was a West Coast Eagles win.

Richmond also played Hawthorn in the Hawks' first ever VFL game in 1925. And the Tigers were the first (Round 2 1908) and last (Round 3 1912) team to lose to University.

Oh Richmond. :D:oops:

They were Gold Coast's first Victorian victim (44-8 into 70-85) in 2011 and gave the Suns their first win in 2012 after, with 2 minutes to go, went from 88-72 to 88-78 to 88-84 to losing 88-90 courtesy of Karmichael Hunt.

All 9 games were won by the older teams in Round 17 for the first time since R23 2015.

The last time all games were won by the younger teams was R13 1999.

\8|9|1
\7|2|1
\6|39|14
\5|12|1

Shame Isaac Smith is a repeat offender when taking the last kick to win a game, but if he had have kicked straight on Saturday:

| Games | H&A Wins | Draws | Finals Win% | Grand Finals
\ Alastair Clarkson | 299 | 171 | 2 | 66.67 | 5
\ John Kennedy | 299 | 171 | 2 | 66.67 | 5

Should Collingwood stick with Nathan Buckley as coach?

| Malthouse | Malthouse | Buckley | Buckley | Buckley | Buckley | Buckley | Buckley
\ | 2010 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017
\ Wins | 17.5 | +2.5 | -4 | -2 | -3 | -1 | -1 | -3*
* to play - WCE (h), ADE (h), NTH (h), PORT (a), GEEL (h), MELB (h)

Can Collingwood win 3 of their remaining 6 games to stop the ever downward trend?

Richmond really should have Reflex as their major sponsor - 'Never rely on Richmond, always rely on Reflex.'

Ah come on, that game should be stricken from the record. Hunt was a mad drug user FFS.

Spewing that Buddy got the 3 tonight.

Greater Western Sydney have played 133 rounds of Home & Away football.

They have never been 12th or 13th position on the ladder.

Hawthorn's last 3 games against Sydney have resulted in wins by 5 points, 6 points and 6 points.

Round 10: Hawthorn v Sydney.
Hawks lead 51 to 30 at HT (21 points up) and win 81-75 (6 point win)

Round 19: Hawthorn v Sydney.
Hawks lead 54 to 33 at HT (21 points up) and win 72-66 (6 point win)

Not sure how many times two teams have played each other multiple times in the same season where the half time and final margins of both games were identical.

Sydney have had a remarkable year, but they won't:
- break the record for most H&A wins by a team starting 0-4 (NM 1975 14-8)
- break the record for best win% by a team starting 0-5 (CO 1959 12-6 66.7%)

I may be a tad biased but to me, not much comes close to Sheedy's first year, 1981. From a poor 1-5 start, they won the next 15 games straight and could have finished top if they won in Round 22.

Round 22, 1981
Richmond (6th) needed to defeat Carlton (2nd) to have any chance of making finals and winning a 2nd premiership in a row. The task was too great though and Carlton won 67-40.

Fitzroy (5th) had to defeat Collingwood (1st) at Victoria Park to ensure a finals berth, and win they did, 59-33. Fitzroy finished 5th and Collingwood dropped to 2nd due to Carlton's win over Richmond.

Essendon (3rd), going for their 16th win on the trot, had to defeat Geelong (4th) to ensure the double chance, and depending on other results, finish on top. But Geelong were too good and won 55-47. The two teams swapped positions and Essendon went to the Elimination Final against a rampant Fitzroy. The potential highs from a Round 22 win must have deflated the team and Essendon lost 109-94 to exit the finals.
