Sam Naismith
An ACL rupture and a long list of complications wiped out Sam Naismith’s 2018 and 2019 seasons, fuelling the hunger of the chief Sydney Swans ruckman for a comeback 2020 campaign. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy product is an excellent tap ruckman who’s shown promising glimpses since being drafted in November 2012, particularly as Sydney powered towards the 2016 Grand Final. The New South Welshman had always worn the number 35 before switching to the number 10 for season 2020 in search of a fresh start.

Sam Naismith

Nankervis is just a pure competitive beast, in some respects he reminds me of Mumford whose competitiveness and tackling when the ball hit the ground basically gave us an extra inside midfielder at the stoppages. I have no doubt other clubs will come calling for him at the end of the year.

Meanwhile let's admire the gazelle in full flight

How on earth can you ruck against that?

Naismith played well but I actually walked away from the game more impressed with Nankervis on the day. Good HO's, won ball around the ground and fired out ball to the midfielders and laid some great tackles.

He'll be out as soon as Tippett returns but he's making a good account of himself as a senior ruckman. Won't surprise me if and when a club offers him a decent salary increase for next year.
Agree. Really like his game, also, nice smother that led directly to a goal.
Cuedos to both for doing their role.

As I stated a week or so ago, Sinclair has definitely dropped to number 4 on the ruck rankings which begs the question - what are we going to do with him?

Keep him as backup. Ruckmen get injured, and can't exactly be replaced by sticking a player out of position. They're literally the most specialist role on the footy field. As far as I'm concerned, 4 ruckmen is an absolute minimum.

I reckon he's been unfairly maligned this season. Has done well as the sole ruck, but he's not Goldy or Cox. Had McEvoy well beaten in the first half on Friday night.

May have to watch again (yuck), but didn't think Naismith was all that competitive at all. Hawks fans had McEvoy in their best at HT.

Good on ya... now I'll have to watch it again and see if you right :(

Chicken hasn't watched the game

He was s**t

Agreed. With due respect to The Chicken he must have borrowed my grog glasses if he indeed did watch it.At no stage in the game was Naismith even half decent. Some of his efforts in marking contests would make the much maligned ( I'm one of them ) Tippett look like a Goliath. When was the last time he actually took a contested mark ? I like him but injury aside he has been complete garbage this year for the most part. Even his effort which is his strong point seems down.

we have played better with 1 ruck, even him

Just needs to clunk a few, that's his biggest challenge.

Those responses are my poimt. He's not great around the field and he doesn't look fit. To be honest he's never looked particularly great outside of ruck contests.

McEvoy was worse up until half time, yet he gets raved about by taking 5 contested marks, most of which were when Sinclair and Naismith were off.

Please.

How ironic.
Tippett our saviour now.
I really do love this place.
But I guess I used to get entertained watching my dog chasing his tail for an hour.

I suggested Foote into the ruck

He's a fighter. I like that. He needs to learn how to become attacking. Too defensive at present. I remember Kieren Jack when he started was the same. He had the swivel on the left Kizza but it took a fair while before he started having an attacking flair in his game.

The coaches like something. As a ruckman though? No.

On topic though,I think Naismiths been ok overall as a sole ruck, id back him to hold his spot if fit.
