KICK RATING

The difference between a player’s expected hit rate (number of times he hits an intended target) and actual hit rate. A negative kick rating indicates a player is not executing the kicks as well as the competition average and a positive kick rating shows a player is hitting the target more often than the competition average. Note that a kick that goes to a teammate counts as effective even if it doesn’t travel the 15m required for a mark.

TOP FIVE

1. Scott Pendlebury Collingwood +11.3%

2. Jacob Weitering Carlton +9.5%

3. Adam Tomlinson GWS Giants +9.3%

4. Lachie Plowman Carlton +9.3%

5. Josh J. Kennedy West Coast +9.1%

If we had of got Tomlinson like we were supposed to - we'd now have 3 of the top five.

:p:D

I still wonder whether it cost us Hrovat...would have been a handy pickup for our midfield. I think it was barass or ericpascoe who suggested the whole Gibbs saga did cost us Hrovat since we were preoccupied with Gibbs and then getting the Marchbank/Pickett deal over the line with GWS who were being campaigners and trying to squeeze us by waiting on the Gibbs deal first.

I can guarantee that SOS won't let the Crows dick him around this year.

They will have been told some time ago that a deal needs to be put to bed long before trade period starts or Bryce stays in navy blue - and they can GAGF!!!

Who went to the YCP event tonight? Trigg/Lo Guidice advised pick 2 will be used to acquire elite young talent from another club.

On the other hand SOS thinks Kelly will sign up with GWS, and were more of a show for hopper.

Huh? As if they actually said at the event SOS thinks Kelly will stay at GWS and that we're more of a show for Hopper...

As it stood from Saturday Night - I felt more comfortable when Tom Williamson was kicking out than Lachie Plowman.

;)

Had been a bit of press in SA recently that the Crows will go for Rockliff in preference to Gibbs now. Was suggested on Talking Footy tonight however that Rockliff is likely (in the journos view) to stay in Brisbane.

I agree.

10+ changes to come this year. Think:
5 likely changes: Armfield, Galluci, Gorringe, Jacksh, Korcheck
Pick another 3 or 4 from: Boekhorst, Buckley, JGM, White, Graham, Palmer, Rowe, Sheehan, Smedts, Summner.
Another one or two that have trade currency: Gibbs, Casboult, Jones

We hit the draft again, hard, and build depth. This is our strategy.

My mail is that (1) Kelly is not coming to us for this reason, (2) Hopper is our number #1 target this year and he will cost a mid-first round (3) We may take a salary dump as part of that, (4) we have no interest in Balic, (5) Shiel is our 'Kelly-like' target once is he eiligble for FA. This is a couple of years away, and conveniently, when our list is mature. Shiel suits our strategy, not Kelly.

Wow talk about selling him short.
Way to gloss over all the intricate trading he did to get us those picks.

Nobody thought we'd be able to get pick 8 for Hendo but he did in the end.
He shrewdly traded picks 21 + 22 for pick 11, netting us Charlie Curnow.
Menzel for Kerridge, PLOWMAN, Lamb, Phillips & Sumner...absolute bargain.
Yarran for pick 19 in hindsight was a huge win.

If you want to talk drafting, sure it's technically too early to say 100%, but so far the signs are very positive...even if you want to say Weitering & SPS picked themselves. Curnow is a great pick up and to get as much out of Silvagni, Fisher & Macreadie given where they were drafted is a win so far.

I think you are forgetting just how bad our list was in 2015...one of the oldest lists in the comp with almost zero promising youth coming through. We were putting our faith in the likes of Jaskch, Boekhorst, Buckley, Graham & Watson...that's about it. Think about that for a moment.
im not selling him short at all. He has traded out 5 players who would all be worth picks inside 25 (Bell we gave up extra points to get it done) and he has used 5 picks inside about 25 giving to us in the draft. Including picks 1 and 5. It is what it is. He has used ten excellent assets so far on this rebuild. Not many list managers would have had this many opportunities in the first two years of a rebuild to reshape a list.
I'm 100% happy with how we are tracking but if you look at how other clubs have managed to rebuild then I think he has been given plenty if not more then others to do a successful rebuild.

Pffft what do I look like, someone who has a clue? :D

I don't bother watching potential draftees. I recognise I far too removed from the process of recruitment to have any real idea about 17 year old footballers from all over the country. I leave it to the people paid for it.
Arr0w
Cerra and Coffield the best two mids in the draft pool? Constable next?
Perhaps LDU though relatively disappointing championships ...
Rayner more a forward who can play mid?

He was lucky with the academy points system in his first trade period, no way we would've got the picks we had without that. But still, his effort must be acknowledged. He took full toll of the academy loophole as well as salary cap dumps to get quality 10 year players on our list.

Yes it's still early days, but our under 24 talent is light years ahead of where it was two years ago and we are still going.

Fact - Jones is the best tall defender at Carlton right now....
Fact - A fit Alex Sylvagni is probably #2 best defender right now
Fact - A fit Rowe despite his age is a better defender than Marchbank / Macreadie and Williamson right now.

Inconvenient fact#1 - Simpson has been playing CRAPOLA for many weeks now
Inconvenient fact #2 - Docherty is a very unreliable kick.

Obvious to anyone - Carlton lacks run and A grade kicking capability from HBF - net result is turnover after turnover and easy opposition entries week in week out. This on top of the weakest, shallowest and least developed midfield capability in AFL.

No coach can put together a game plan based on losing every one on one and butchering pretty much every exit from defense.

Sorry Tuohy to Geelong was a STOOPID anyway objective observation can look at it.
Fact - Our midfield is shallow for depth and is exposed as poor without Cripps and Ed. No delay on the ball as Bolts was saying.

my memory was that they were 2 completely deals. the crows gave us kerridge and pick 28 for menzel. 28 was the on traded to gws for plowman, phillips, lamb and sumner.
on the last day of the trade period sos tried to trade in tomlinson for the pick that we eventually used on charlie. if it had happened we would have either moved up for charlie and missed harry or missed charlie. by accident it looks like a great outcome for us.
We also traded Henderson for Geelong's future first pick, and that pick was rolled in with the pick 28 for the GWS 4 and the Pick 8.

I like just about everything you've said there except the Rowe bit.

Jones has overtaken Rowe, in my opinion.

Rowe, is not a direct comparison to Marchbank, Macreadie and Williamson.

In this next year or two I see our back six including,

Jones, Weitering, Marchbank, Byrne, Williamson and Macreadie - with ASOS around for another year or two as big man cover.

;)

Unfortunately your not going to get much support around here about the Tuohy for Smedts deal :D

We are still a couple of years off knowing if SOS is any good. Personally I don't he was dealt that bad of a hand.
He has so far had the use of 5 picks inside 25 including Pick 1 and 5 from the draft. He also been able to trade out 5 players who have had value inside the top 25. That is a bloody lot of assets he has used.
And would Rogers have got near to doing any of that?
Any other recruiter?

....And Polson. Don't let another 150 game player get in the way of a good trade for the cfc.
