Aside from age, they are so far apart in performance levels that you shouldn't be mounting this defence in the face of what are very straight forward numbers, especially when contextualised with their positional play.

You've got a bee in your bonnet, and it's about probably our most consistent (and arguably exceptional) player for the last decade. That's insane.

Lets agree to disagree...

edit: at the risk of shooting Bambi...

I stand by my view that Simpson's game has gone from good to crapola since he was moved to wing - he has been responsible ( but certainly not alone) in producing too many coach killing clangers at the wrong time in games too often recently.

Not a chance mate; I have zero respect for your point of view as it's about trashing Simpson.

Trashing Simmo is different to believing he's on the decline. It'll happen at some point, for every player.

Personally, I'm not sure if Simmo just needs to manage his workload or recovery better, but based on viewing the last few games he's certainly been making uncharacteristic errors that have cost us dearly. If he can fix that. he can probably eke out another good year, but if he continues to turn the ball over in dangerous positions I can see some of the kids going past him very quickly.

"Trashing Simpson" is a bit of an overstatement I would think - but if it suits your narrative so be it.
Simpson's past achievements for Carlton speak for themselves - they don't need you to defend them or anyone else really do they?

I've no doubt he's on the decline, but it's an extremely gentle slope.

As I've pointed out repeatedly now, the guy is actually doing more for the team in terms of effort out on the field than this time last year, or even at the start of the year. Oddly enough, it's showing up late in games.

This isn't the years catching up with him, it's plain old fatigue.

rumour: Dylan Buckley has been activity looking for another team.
unhappy with lack of opportunity and most likely gone at end of year.

source: friend of his GF
Gotta feel for Dylan because he clearly puts in at the gym and on the track, so you have to wonder if he's not too happy about how he's been pigeon-holed over the journey.

Yes I know many will point out his ball use, but does he seem like a wildly disagreeable type to anyone? Where is the disconnect between the coaches, his game study and his execution?

I think another team will either wait for him to be delisted or wait for him to be delisted and has an exceptional year at VFL level.

Doesn't get enough of it to play midfield, doesn't win enough to play forward, and turns the ball over in the backline.

I'd have loved for Dylan to come along, but ultimately he just doesn't have a position in a modern side; he'd have been perfect as an old fashioned wingman, getting out into open space and sprinting forward, but that position doesn't really exist anymore, as AFL level athletes all can play that role anyway.

Am a bit saddened to hear this, but I've had a feeling he's gone for a while now.

Lol ,
If his surname was Smith he'd have been delisted years ago .
Gotta laugh at how far removed from reality some of these clowns are .
And before the inevitable "Jim won't be happy" post , who gives a toss if Jim won't be happy .

That's fine. I hope he gets a gig somewhere else because it's going to take a lot of injuries for him to get a game at Carlton in 2018.

Was Dylan trialled as a defensive forward much ? Was his obvious position in my mind, considering his mongrel, pace, big kick and his first goal in AFL..

Dylan won't be retained by Carlton and there is some interest from other clubs apparently.

McVeigh would work well if Simpson retires, but we shouldn't move on Simpson to get McVeigh. Let's see how Simpson goes in his last few games.

I like Perryman, could Kelly, Hopper and Perryman be our bundle for this year :), pick #2 and Gibbs pick will get it done.

I don't believe that for a second; he could play a role off HF, or put him into the midfield rotation.

Needs specialist coaching for a midfield role, but the raw ability is there. He's obviously not the brightest spark, but by the same token he's no dummy. Can't help but feel this is more a series of unfortunate events rather than him being incapable.

Never seen Gibbs on Discussions with Dylan...

I like how Perryman wants to come to Carlton to join all his ex-GWS friends.

Especially considering hes a 18 year old who only got drafted last year.
Just saw the rumour and haven't read all the past pages... That was the first thing I thought. Kid doesn't have any ex teammates yet. Plus how big is his head if he is pissed and wants to leave because he's not a lock in his first year. Just signing a new contract to add to this too. Seems a hard rumour to believe. Very hard to believe...
