He started the stretch as our 30th ranked player, he's now 20th and will definitely pass Armfield and probably Jack for 18th by season's end.

Charlie started his streak as our 24th ranked player, he's now 15th and will probably pass Kerridge and Levi for 13th in a few rounds.

We've added some new faces to the top 20 and top 10 on our list from the end of last year.

Weitering is 10th from 15th, Lachie 9th from 20th, Charlie 15th from 33rd and Samo 20th from unranked.

While guys that will phased off the list have dropped such as Armfield (from 12th to 19th), White (13th to 16th).
Guys like Rowe, Thomas and Casboult sitting comfortably in the top 20 will be overtaken very soon.

Guys like Fisher, Cuningham, Marchbank, Byrne and Williamson should be in the top 20 by round 23 2018.

Pickett, Harry, Macreadie, Polson and LeBois should see significant rises next year too hopefully.

Let's say we finish 18th,

Has 2017 been a success?
Are we still on track?
FFS... YES!!

How many games have we led in the last quarter, been in a winning position, but fallen over the line? That is not characteristic of your typical wooden spoon side. We should all know and be accepting of where we are at.

We are going to rocket up the ladder when we inject midfield talent.

I just wonder whether if we had the #1 pick in the PSD, Silvagni would have the balls to use it as leverage in a trade deal.

Going to do this again, but will only involve players younger than 21.
I'll rate the players that I feel will make it, based on a percentage.

CCurnow, Marchbank & SPS...........90
Weitering.....................................85
Fisher, Macreadie..........................80
Williamson...................................75
Cuningham. JSilvagni....................70
McKay.........................................65
Pickett.........................................60
Polson.........................................50
LeBois, Kerr.................................35
Glass-McCasker............................20

Would be pretty good should 10 games make at least the 100 game club. Anything more and we're way in front.

Christ Weitering cops it rough

He's a defender who asked to play swingman.

He'll be a star, he just needs a bit of time to build consistency

I don't disagree with ranking Charlie ahead of Jacob. For me it's based purely on this year's observations. I'm confident that each will be outstanding for many years to come. Nothing like a little competition to motivate you.

I'm feeling bullish about 2018 given the performances of the team this year. Another year of going to the draft. Another year of developing our younger players. Some judicious recruiting in the off season. I think Carlton will be easier to sell as a destination club given the last two seasons. The club is stable, the coaching outstanding and the playing list is getting stronger.

You're confident that Willo has a 10% more chance to 'make it' than H? Interesting

Sure do, as Williamson has a ready made home at HB, or wing, yet McKay has a lot more work to do as a KPF.

It's more for the fact that McKay is limited in where he can play and it's not easy being a premium forward.
That's not to say he can't make it, but the spotlight will always be on him.

Why do you think he cops it rough?
The points I and a few others posters have raised are valid.

The only reason I don't feel he's of the standard of the three I put in front of him yet is for effort alone.
The others set out to impose themselves upon the game, whereas Weitering hasn't done that yet. Can he do it? Of course he can.....but he hasn't.

I'd have Kerr at 50. I've liked his first season in the VFL. He leads with conviction and has strong hands. His kicking for goal is impressive. Assuming Casboult is no longer at Carlton I think Pat and Harry will be in the mix as a replacement.

I like him too, but the fall-back always plays out to.......opportunity rules.

We can have only so many talls in the forward line and all being well, the young guys in McKay, CCurnow, JSilvagni and from my point of view, Weitering will heavily populate most spots, so then....what with Kerr?

Patrick has had a very productive opening season and unfortunately for him, injury has taken hold. Look forward to watching him next year.

He's a second year player.

Talk of trading him is premature.

You can think what you like of him, but surely you can agree that a second year player who has played almost every game possible isn't exactly disappointing.

Point a is correct. He's a second year player.
Point b is silly. Who would want to trade him? Not me.
Point c is debatable in terms of his output. I think he's better than he has shown up this year and if not by performance, then certainly by way of effort and commitment. He'll learn from this lean year. Shouldn't he?

Point b is a direct reference to the post which prompted mine, to which you responded.

So you know, relevant.

It's been lean at times, but he has had good games as well.

As a second year player, I am not too upset with inconsistency.

We got absolutely flogged by Geelong, well and truly beaten. As a rebuilding side we've hit a real trough in our development. Our average AFL player rating last week was as 156, a mark we haven't been at since round 6. This week's score of 168 is our worst since round 7. And that is not to mention the individual performances, a 3.8 rating is the lowest we've had all season. A black wek in the rebuild.

Bottom four will not happen next year. 8 to 10 at the very least. With a bit of luck and composure it could have been 8 to 10 this year.
We all should raise a toast to the first ever proper attempted rebuild at this club...that in itself is positive and with time we will become better at it and find a way to win and one day dominate the ladder .
We do have a few really good drafts who will form into a solid team...but we are not overflowing in depth even assuming we do develope these guys well as anticipated and will need plenty more .....i am not getting carried away.
We need to stay away from bottom 4 for the next few years....cause it was looking like the end for a while there.
We do have a bit of a start of a good list but really this is early days and we will need to unearth some more remarkable players with time to challenge the best.

After one of our lowest ebbs in our rebuild two weeks ago we are starting to push back up, on the back of big growth by Samo Petrevski-Seton, Curnow and reasonable gains from most of our kids. Sam Docherty has hit a bit of an elastic band movement and ever since moving into the midfield where he is getting a little less of the ball he has dropped down from his high heights. It was a good game form him however, and Samo as well, overall the kids performed okay in our match against the arch enemies, and that includes a shocking effort from Billie Smedts with 1 SEN vote. It's players like Smedts who will soon be delisted that I am happy to dsicredit in matches like this and look at the positives, the performance of SPS and Kerridge, and Marchbanke light the way.

My apologies but I won't be able to do a full statistical update tonight. At least the graphs are up though.

It remains to be seen what this group will achieve but the 66 game rebuild means Carlton will be splashing some cash around to fast track development. Will be an interesting off season where I hope we'll be doing the pillaging instead of providing elite players for the top teams in the comp.

I feel like we could be a chance for the flag in 2019.

Still a bit too early, we'll need the prime years of the guys dominating this thread to come about first.

A 21 year old SPS, 22 year old Curnow, 21 year old McKay, 21 year old Weitering, 22 year old Marchbank, 21 year old Silvagni, 22 year old Cuningham, 20 year old Williamson and 21 year old Fisher aren't taking us to a flag.

A 24 year old Cripps, 25 year old Docherty and 24 year old Plowman will be beginning their peak and won't be able to carry us deep into finals yet.
