Review Geelong defeats Richmond by 14 points

Well, being so dominant with inside 50's, it only makes sense that if the free kick count was even we probably would have had the opportunity to kick more goals, I would have thought?
Receiving a free kick is not part of a socialist program- it's not equal and fair. It's based on actual infringements of the rules. Adjudication is equal and fair, but if your team infringes a lot (and both Geelong and Richmond are highest on that list) it's not for the umpires to even it up to accommodate some kind of equality.

Standard premise- equality of outcome is not the same as equality of opportunity to play the games cleanly and fairly. You infringe, you get called on it. Richmond fans should be livid with Hardwick over his pathetic comments to shift blame from the coaching to the umpires. But in all fairnes to him, he did say that at Tigers home games the fans influence the umpires too. Doesn't seem to stop his team from being very bad at infringing, does it?

Can't argue with you about for the forward line but umps definitely had an effect on momentum, or lack there of.

Anyway, we move on...

Yet you're still here...

Ok..what about Mackie handballing through our goals with no-one around him?
Right there that should have been a shot at goal.
Short got pinched for exactly the same thing against the bombers, only difference being he was being chased down in the goal square i.e actual real pressure.
Just inconsistent umpiring or bias?
I won't even start on the numerous incorrect disposal / htb non-free kicks.
Danger has a free pass for those ones...
You mean where he handballed it to a teammate who was on the other side of the line? it was dodgey but the fact it was to a teammate meant the umpire would never pay it... so really it is nothing at all like what Short got pinged for.
and what about when Stanley was spoiled by Grimes who didn't look at the ball at any time and made contact with Stanleys arms when spoiling... that was a free kick every day of the week and not paid
see isolating 1 incident really does nothing to prove your point.

Dusty gets a free pass as much as Danger does, all the good players do unfortunately.

to suggest umpire bias is laughable, as is your complete lack of ability to admit you were simply outplayed for the majority of the game

Nope. The rules state:

15.7 FREE KICKS — DELIBERATE RUSHED BEHIND
15.7.1 When Awarded

A Free Kick shall be awarded against a Player from the defending Team who intentionally Kicks, Handballs or forces the football over the attacking Team’s Goal Line or Behind Line or onto one of the attacking Team’s Goal Posts. In assessing whether a Free Kick should be awarded under this Law, the field Umpire shall give the benefit of the doubt to the Defender.

And for a year they have been allowing the defender to do this when there are opposition players in the goal square. Mackie looked to have been hand balling it to Lonergan, IIRC.

Short got pinched for exactly the same thing against the bombers, only difference being he was being chased down in the goal square i.e actual real pressure.

I'd totally go with inconsistent umpiring. It happens to us a lot.

I won't even start on the numerous incorrect disposal / htb non-free kicks.

Well, during the game I was quite amazed at how many "over the head handballs" (that looked like throws to me) the Tigers got away with. I think perhaps Danger is a little quicker at disposal than you might admit. The elite players all are. It sometimes looks like a throw but it isn't.

Anyway, I have the pleasure of every now and then watching a game with an AFL listed umpire. My friend's son is coming up through the ranks at the moment, and he'll tell you it is the hardest job on the field, but also he gives you a little insight to the rules and let me tell you, at AFL level, 9 out of 10 times they get it right.

Bit disappointed in Dimmas comments that the crowd influenced the umpiring.... they should have got more tigers supporters down there. You reap what you sow.
And the crowd certainly didn't influence the umpires the week before, against Sydney, where we didn't get any of the 50-50 decisions and many obvious frees to us weren't given.

So you have 1 example....

Sure mate, punt road end at the finals...all welcome.

Unless it's during the first 2 weeks you won't be there champ.

Those are never paid. Always benefit of the doubt in those situations.

Like chalk and cheese. Completely different circumstances.

Yep, there seemed to be one rule for one team and another for Richmond, particularly in the first quarter, and it's not the way you anticipate either.

Now should we start with the 3 on the fulls not paid or the chopping the arms to Stanley directly in front.

Take a seat you need it.

You expect to play Soldo, Broad and one or two others and expect to win then I'd suggest you change your plans.

Don't know where you get your info from - Tiges are -75, most frees against.

Cats are going good with the umps...maybe Costa is still involved, making offers the umps can't refuse?

Probably something to do with these stats:

Richmonds free kick totals:
- 9th in frees for with 362 (we are #1 with 420)
- 1st in frees against with 436 (we are #2 with 429)

What you're referring to is this - Opposition differential:
- -75 in frees for
- +74 in frees against

Thanks Richmond for bumping us up to #1 with frees for and taking over from us with frees against - appreciate your work in yesterday's match.

I was at the game and they didnt show a replay but can anyone tell me why Houli was given that 50m penalty in the 3rd? The Richmond bloke was the one giving the ball back so I was confused why we got pinged if it didnt go back quick enough.

Not sure if this was answered but Stewart stupidly stuck his hand out and swatted the pass from the Tiger to Houli.

At long last, The Geelong Football Club Homicide/Internal Investigation Trade commission has found Steven 'Crop Top' Motlop after a lengthy search that lasted 4 months. He has been found in a happy condition and is running with some confidence. Mr Motlop is even finger twirling and Geelong fans are relieved to have their punching bag finally playing well again

So you are whinging because your executive are a s**t truck like your players, and can't get the job done when it matters. Go away, you are embarrassing yourself.

Not sure what he was trying to achieve by jumping into the autopsy thread on the winners board and whining about the umpiring. Truly bizarre.

Perhaps actually play with class and not go the man and you might get somewhere. You were smashed in contested ball, yet you want more frees?

Go in hard at the ball.

Love it when they've whinged about playing down in Geelong, stating they'd spank us at the MCG. What's our record against them, aren't they our biatches for the last 20 years or so?

Play them OK at Etihad from memory too

Have to go back to June 1999 for the last time the Tiggers beat us at the MCG.

My favourite passage of play yesterday was when Dusty Martin tried to fend off someone, only to get tackled by Parfitt and pinged for holding the ball.

Currently half the game in for #UmpireWatch2017

The Mackie rush and the deliberate out of bounds pretty much the only dicey decisions.. they would never pay the rush as he handballed it to a player just behind the line so they couldn't pay it. The deliberate was a poor call but we proceeded to kick long and the swept it the length of the ground almost at speed... then s**t themselves and stuffed it up.

We outnumbered them and out worked them completely in the 2nd quarter... and when they did get the ball cleanly the kicked it to our defenders advantage inside 50 or straight to us.
To any Tiger lurkers I would suggest that was the bigger issue for you that quarter.

They're upset about getting pinged for HTB so much yet they try to fend off every single time. All we had to do yesterday was lay a half decent tackle and they were gone.
I can't really remember the last time I've seen a club sook so much.
It's like they wanted the rules of the game changed just because they had to drive an hour down the highway.

Four of those eight wins were between '97-01....between Abletts. It's 42-8 since Gary Sr started in 1984 with Geelong. His legacy must be enduring!!
