FWIW - 9 of the last 16 flags have been won by teams that got "hand outs" - adding Geelong Father/Son "handouts" makes it 12 of the last 16.

We should take every advantage we can get - we are coming from a loooooong way back.
Makes a lot of sense, we need whatever advantage the club gets.
It's all well and good to be chasing talent from other clubs, but we also need the likes of Gibbs and Casboult to net us huge return if they leave.
They are of more value to the CFC as we are devoid of midfield talent and depth regards Gibbs and Levi helps straighten the side up and allows the young forwards to develop.
So if the club was to ask for a PP, it's within the rules.
The AFL want equality across the competition and need clubs to be competitive.
The club through previous individual's mismanaged was left a basket case and only the last 2 years, as a result of hard working personal under Bolts, SOS, Trigg and MLG the club is heading on the right pathway starting from a long way back.

Don't want Tom Liberatore. His old man rubbished us to the media after he left trying to implicate us in the tanking debate. Him and his dad can GAGF!
He's old man should worry about the white powder his son has taking a liking to.

That is a bit of a problem. Playing professional footy while waking up at 3 am to bake bread... Makes it hard.

Gaff? Makes Gibbs look like Hodge.
Not sure what the trade is but not that into Gaff
I cant rememeber who said it but an article came out today saying that a three way trade was in the works with the blues trading gibbs to Adelaide. Adelaide trading M McGovern to weast coast and west coast trading Gaff to carlton. Then draft picks put in there to get the deal done

Yep read it somewhere today as well.

I'd want a late first or early second coming back with Gaff.

Carlton:
Lose Gibbs + Pick 37
Gain Gaff + Pick 17

West Coast:
Lose Gaff + Pick 45
Gain McGovern + Pick 37

Adelaide:
Lose McGovern + Pick 17
Gain Gibbs + Pick 45

Imo that 3 way trade compounds the load already on Cripps with Gibbs going out we will need atleast 2 mainly inside/outside players to replace him and adequately support Cripps . Kelly and Hopper would certainly tend to that but a big ask getting 1 let alone both . Gaff is purely outside . Think ahead Cripps gets injured no Gibbs and we dont get Kelly or Hopper . Gaff certainly no value in that scenario .

From a CFC perspective my random thoughts are:

1. At 25 and 1 month now, Gaff may be outside our desired trade in range. Gaff is 3 years younger than Gibbs, but Gibbs looks like he will keep playing for another 3 years - 5 years so not sure this is a real win.
2. Gibbs can play both on the inside and outside. Gaff is only an outside mid, but elite in that role. We would have to find an inside mid like Hopper to replace Gibbs lost output if this deal happens. We would really miss Gibbs output on the inside in 2018.
3. Gibbs is a higher quality mid measured by super coach or AFL fantasy tables (cannot use disposals as they play a different role), Gibbs tackles a lot more (5.8 av to 2.0av. this season) and is taller (can play other roles) and more physically imposing ( certainly this year). Gaff is great outside but could we get Gaff enough ball to make this work? or would Gaff be a liability due to his lack of defensive pressure?

Not sure I am sold on the concept but would be interested in others thoughts.

If we lost Gibbs but picked up Hopper and Gaff then we could do alright:rainbow:.

Interesting. Carlton showed him around PP last trade period and rumour was they were close to a deal? Talented but lazy. New coach/culture may help. 3rd rounder?

Was rumours a while back B70 .. Smurph ... can't remember that was to the tune of SOS rating him ........

I think people here are seriously underrating Gaff.

He has had a quiet year for his standards but he was killing it only last year and the years before that and was all the rage. Still only 25.

If we ended up with Gibbs for Gaff I'd be satisfied.

Trade #17 for Hopper.

Out: Gibbs and #37
In Hopper and Gaff

Could do a lot worse than that.

I agree, my thoughts on him went up massively with the way he performed in the Grand Final two years back.

It's been reported by WA today that Freo have offered him 3 years at 450k, if we can better that then there is no reason he wouldn't join us, apparently open to moving to VIC.

He kicks goals and is involved in plenty of scores for GC, the only knock would be his tackling and pressure? Ave 2.2 per game only.. We have Pickett who can provide good pressure, especially after a full pre-season and Matera could concentrate on hitting the scoreboard. I'd say he will also ramp up his work rate at a new club.

don't see the logic of paying more to him than what we're prepared to offer Levi.
