I think you are in the wrong thread or don't support the crows. That is wildly sensible.

So the rule that a club needs to use at least two first round picks in a four year period (except Geelong apparently), is that requirement that they need to use two first round picks based on where they finished on the ladder, or can those first round picks be traded in (ie could it be a pick 18 traded in to satisfy the rule)? Also, can you satisfy the four year rule by using two first rounders in the one year?

Yeah having 2 picks in one season allows you to trade 2 first round picks in future years pretty sure Academy and father/Son are also considered as having 2 first round picks in one season if bid on in the first round of the draft

Didn't that rule get put off until 2019

Am I right in saying the rule is you have to use two 1st round picks in four years but it doesn't have to be your own first round picks?

We traded 2015
We traded 2016
We traded 2017

But it's hard to penalize us before the end of 2018 trade period, especially given we've got up to four father-son picks in that draft and there's a distinct possibility we find a way to accumulate the picks so that we meet the AFL requirements using the bidding system to get our first 1st round pick in four years and our existing 1st rounder to get the 2nd.

The rule was introduced in 2015 I think?

So the four year period ends 2018.

Given that clubs could still bring in first rounders as late as he last minute of the 2018 trade period, the afl couldn't really stop any trades until 2019.
The rule was invented in 2015 but it won't be in effect until 2019.

Hehe

I just posted this in the Richmond section, but wanted to hear other opinions too...

Martin leaves Richmond. We get compensation pick in the top 3 or 5. We also have Geelong's first this year. Giving us say pick 3 or 4 & pick 15 & 16.

We offer GWS pick 3 or 4 & 15 for Josh Kelly. We also offer Melbourne pick 16 for Jack Watts.
How do people still not understand the compensation rules?

I always thought it also involved what the contract was being offered to the player... The top 25 % of a team's earners etc.
He's talking about you giving the Tigers a top 5 pick, something that cannot happen.

The pick you would receive is a pick after your first round pick, so you'd have picks 15 and 16 if Martin left.

Does Jack Watts for Levi Casboult (with a possible swap of late picks in melbournes favour) sound fair?
While i wouldn't mind that trade, its just not a need for us. If Cas leaves it will be through FA and we will bank the pick. Best bet would be to just offer him a decent salary and amount of years and you'll get him free

That is disgusting for Melbourne.

We have no need for Casboult, Cam Pedersen is better and cheaper.

Watts is in our best 18 let alone 22 but struggled for form (although shit delivery into the forward line didn't help him) since returning from his longest injury layoff of his career.

What would you guys want for Watts if he was on the table? Or rather what you rate as his draft pick value so to speak.

I have been reading various reports from their draft years and the current threads. Who would be worth more at the trade table Matthew Kennedy or Jacob Hopper?

I was a Hopper over Kennedy man but I am liking Kennedy more and more over the last month or so.

One of the best I've seen and seems fair for all

Would you trade two first round picks this year for Hawthorns first next year?

I think the tigers and st kilda have 2 for example.

If you want to know how a club bottoms out for 5-10 years, this is how.

Hawthorn are a side with too many core old players that they need to replace to be trading future picks.
