Seriously, the players fault? For me it's the player as well. Should not have gone there at all.
But you are correct. The money & years signed are the main cause of angst
The way I heard it was that Mayne was brought up during meeting (Gubby - you recall he didn't think much of our list?), Bucks not that keen but asked Hine to check it out, was hesitant as didn't suit the profile he was looking for. Both Gubby and Hine were working on the deal separately!More so a defence in regards to how that discussion went down. Despite his many faults as a coach I can't see him speaking in support of a guy as shit as Mayne was toward the end of 2016 then simply not playing him after doing that. Setting the contract and personalities involved aside given Buckley's continued use of Blair it doesn't make sense.
My best guess is that either he and the 5 others weren't firm enough with Gubby around targeting him or they were firm and Ed gave Gubby ultimate power. The talk of him being blindsided or accepting of Mayne doesn't wash with me.
I could be wrong here, but I don't think we're all that far apart on this one. Where is it you stand on it again? As above I'm strong on it being Gubby's call, but Buckley et al were aware of how it was going to go down. The contract hurts, but like TTRRAAVVIISS posted it was just a dumb move with or without the exorbitant deal because he's cooked. Either way let's fix it now!
FWIW after listening the second time a few things struck me. Buckley referred to Hine as Derek whereas it's always been Dekka previously (probably means nothing). I think the TPP repair stuff was spot on because Buckley referenced fixing from within (praise the lord some list chemistry). I don't think they'll be too upset to see the back of Fas given the concerns over forward retention.
Thanks for posting. Particularly liked the twitter responder who described him as looking disabled. Harsh but fair.
Could there be a trend here? The more I read on this, the more farcical the statements coming out of Nathan Buckleys mouth become. A mix-up...?
A ******* MIX-UP when signing a player on a 4yr, $2million in total deal.
Seemingly keen to blame everyone else but himself.
Come on peoples it's easy to work out what went wrong.
Gubby was in a meeting with Colin Young, saw Bucks walk past and shrugged his shoulders questioningly.
Bucks held his two fingers up and he kept walking.
Gubby offered $2m and Young kindly agreed to stretch it over 4 years to help our TPP.
Problem is Bucks meant two years.

check hereApologies if it's been asked already but we can pay him out and **** him off without him agreeing to come to terms? Citing inability to fulfill contract obligations or inability to get a proper haircut.
If that's the case which tail is wagging which dog? Was / is the FD working to a plan to improve on-field performance or is it a loose assortment of fiefdoms with zero co-ordination?
I would think the coach would have been consulted and given Mayne was recruited I would presume he was ok with it. That itself is something I would have found surprising given Mayne's career and form.
The deal on the other hand is another matter and Buckley clearly distanced himself from that aspect - which I also presume to be 100% accurate.
Buckley is the exact opposite of a people person - what a gutless act from him! And nobody is allowed to say anything because he'll hide behind Eddie's back.
Whatever, it sounds like Mayne is getting the sack now. What a ******* disaster for everybody involved.

1. Pies not operating in ideal world - looks like they're on another planetHence the review. 1. In an idea world, 2. I think the coach would tell the list manager/recruiters what game plan he was trying to play to.
Who got Mayne to the Club? Gubby.Buckley is the exact opposite of a people person - what a gutless act from him! And nobody is allowed to say anything because he'll hide behind Eddie's back.
