List Mgmt. Buckley "Mix up with Mayne recruitment".

mayne should still be giggling at the deal he got. he shouldn't be peed at anyone. btw, if he got a kick we wouldn't even be talking about this.

But that is still the clubs doing, Mayne didn't hold a gun to their head and we decided to give a player on his last legs a very good deal, still doesn't give Buckley the right to do what he did and again I really don't like Mayne as a player but nobody deserves that.
I want to know where Eddie is with his "side by side" and I quote "We don't pot our own at Collingwood" or does it not include Chris because he's only been there a year?

We knew what kind of player we were getting when we pursued Mayne and I just don't get the notion that because he's been paid x amount of money we should have expected a certain level of performance.

The simple reality is the amount of money a player is earning doesn't magically improve his ability (though can be a positive motivating factor when coming out of contract) and what we got from Mayne was most likely the best he had to offer and we were simply negligent in our evaluation of him and overpaid.

To me the biggest query is the involvement of the coach in his acquisition which according to the father of Mayne was more hands on than the club or coach was willing to concede as they pushed the focus and blame elsewhere inside the football department.

My read of the situation is that Buckley ticked off on recruiting Mayne. However, the contract specifics (money + time) are more Hine's and Allan's domain. The "mix-up" seems to refer to communication around contract specifics rather than a question of "should we recruit Mayne?"

Begs the question though of how much input does the senior coach have in recruiting players? Does he just say - "I want player x" or "get me a y type" or does he have more input into contract specifics I.e. "I want this player for 3 years" etc?

As an aside, there's a certain irony in this situation. The footy public in general laments that players, coaches etc play everything with a straight bat in the media and want more truth and honesty. A coach answers a question seemingly with more honesty than you'd normally get and the footy public are out looking for their pound of flesh as fast as possible (see the main board's thread on this topic). Do these people still question why everything's played with the straight bat and people seemingly don't want to show their personality? The second it happens the wolves are out in force. Pretty disappointing situation, think Buckley should have known how his comments would be interpreted but admittedly it would be hard to choose the right words on the spot.

It's actually hilarious you can't tell the difference. To some people Buckley can literally do no wrong, even though he himself admitted it was a mistake. Interesting.
Interesting.
For sone Buckley can only do wrong.
For others he has flaws but is still good.
For others still he's a terrific straight up guy but like everyone makes mistakes.
Next to no one I've seen on here thinks Buckley can do no wrong.
Interesting

Is there any coach who can do no wrong?

Nope.

They are human after all.

Even, Jock made the ocassion mistake here and there

Replied to a Crows supporter on the Dees board.
Hope you didn't post an image of a Mexican walking fish.

No need for that sort of offensive imagery, have some decorum man.

I guess I just see the term "lover" and assume that means someone who is in love with another. Not midly accepting and hoping they aren't terrible.

I had a look back and the worst I can see as far as bagging goes is CFC called one of your comments on list decisions "bullshit".

What I did see however was you pulling out the "Where are they now?" challenge on 3 separate occasions. Do you want these mystery people who have apparently dishonoured you to respond or not?

I am impressed that you have the time and looked back! However maybe you didnt look hard enough.
Who dishonoured me? Should i get my guns out ,and with my kin folk and start a vendeta?
Really dont know were your going with this?
But there is a group of us on this forum, and good on them its an opinion based forum ,that would back any decision CFC make, and would critisise anyone who would critic it. I dont!
Our recruiting last year and most years when it comes to free agents is shit! and thats being diplomatic.
Young Lynch White Greenwood Wells Mayne.
Just to mention a few.

By the way, has Buckley met with Mayne and told him what an absolute ripper of a bloke he is whilst walking him out of the club, with a discounted payout?

Anyone know?

No, since Perts left their been no leaks, or even rumours to be had from the club. Sad state of affairs

I'd keep Mayne for at least 2018. He just needs to make tackling his key focus for the season and will play a role for us.
I don't think now, paying him out will help us so keeping him for next year is
the only thing to do

I get what you're saying PieNSauce in regards to the Bucks bashing but as I stated above Bucks "could have" played the straight bat on this one.

He doesn't say stuff for shits & giggles.

I also agree about the Collingwood board on this site.

Its the same on every pies site, nothing unique to BF.

Who got Mayne to the Club? Gubby.
Who ticked off on getting Mayne to Club from start to finish? Buckley.
Who got Gubby to the club? El President.
Who's putting their hand up to say we stuffed up? No F****** idea!

Let's have another review to work out who's actually running the club? Seriously, and we want to make the Club great again? It used to be great. What happened?

It appears we didn’t stuff up. Mayne has been tremendous.

Reborn. To his and the clubs credit, they've made this work and then some. Deployed as a winger/sweeper, suits him well.

Recruited as a pressure mid sized forward, bloke could no longer kick over a jam tin when we arrived and this new role plays to his strengths.

great recruit given he cost us nothing in trade terms.

Leadership provided is absolutely invaluable for the younger players

I was a big critic of this trade and was absolutely right until Mayne went through a total rebuild On his game and credit to him, he was done. could not be happier for him, he’s been amazing.

He has certainly proved me wrong. The mates keep reminding me of my opinion during his first season with us ( although, in fairness, they were saying the same as me at the time. ) I am more than willing to admit that he has proven me wrong. Now I love the way that he plays.
