Where does everyone think we will finish next year? I was thinking trading our 2018 1st for Brisbane's 14 and 18 picks or GC's picks 19,22 or 24.
Anywhere from 8th to last, Bris picks maybe?Hmm knowing our luck we will finish last, maybe i didn't think this through enough. some might call it aggressive others stupid. It’s all to hard l'm just going back to lurking.

Worst thing about this was at least 1 senior poster clicked it expecting pornography.

Most of the so called expert’s believe clubs will want to trade out of this year’s draft into the next, is there an opportunity for us to do something this year? Could we offer up next year 1st or do we need the points or is this year’s draft just not strong enough.

Excellent thinking.

What if we could land LDU & Dow this year, and say Thomas, Scott & Crocker next year?

Very Warren Buffett. I like.

Fwiw our best drafting year of 2000 (in my opinion) was not in a 'superdraft' year.

Whereas 2001 was supposedly the draft to end all drafts and we royally pissed all our chips up against the wall.

It's certainly another way of looking at an agressive reset.

An influx of high end junior talent over a 2 draft period, then attempt to hit the trade table again for established talent. While at the same time having a slush fund for high end FA's.

I agree.

The notion of "aggressive reset" is not necessarily set in 2017's concrete, but if we can't land some big name players again in next years trade window, then any "reset" has basically gone out the window. We'll be looking at 2020-2021 for a realistic return to the top 8.

We have to move with landscape. If we can't lure established stars, then we have to look at ways introducing more elite youth into the club and be agressive in that regard.

The worst thing we can do, in my opinion, is to just stand pat and take our allocated draft picks. We'll go nowhere if that's the case.

I like the idea in theory and we probably won't need the points (our father sons and academy are likely to be after our first pick).

However, the top 5, heck the top 10 is looking unbelievably strong. For example would you rather LDU, Cerra or Dow vs Lukosious, rankin or Walsh. Those in the know think this years top 10 wouldn't get into next years top 10 (on the whole, some have a player or 2 getting in).

As we are likely to be bottom 6ish next year, is hold onto the pick.

Id imagine the bookmakers would have us finishing 17th. GC would have to be favorites for the spoon id think. Brisbane and Carlton have a fair bit of top end youth that should see them clear of the bottom, Freo probably in the bottom 3 mix. Melbourne, StKilda should improve, Pies under achieved imo and should have a stronger year. So yeah 17th sounds about the spot depending if we get Kelly and or what we have to give up.

This a joke?

Only sides we are a chance of finishing above in 2018 are Brisbane, Gold Coast and Carlton.

And you know what? That's not such a bad thing. We need top end talent.

Short cuts didn't win us a flag last time and that won't be different this time.

Why would it be a joke?

Because it's not what the group think or media is saying?

6 games by less than a goal in 2017.

I might be wrong but but f*** limiting who we will finish above to only 3 potential teams seems a touch premature to me.

I mean we don't know who we get in, what the fixture will look like, what the health of the list will be like, what the competition broadly will look like. Yet you've confined us to bottom 4.

I choose not to look at things that way, as is my prerogative.

We might push for the 8 next year with kelly, without him, still might but might just miss.

To the naysayers - we lost 5 games by less than a goal, geelong on the back of a free against Preuss for a "high" tackle, Freo (the first time) after LMac lost his feet at 2 vital contests in the last minute of the game. His improvement since then has been significant. Dogs the first time after LT missed a goal he should have nailed and Freo the second time after 2 players missed shots they might normally have got. Dogs the second time due to un all too beliveably sus umpiring. Essendon are gonna struggle to play us with JZ and Taz in the side and Nielson out for revenge.

We probably won't challenge for the flag next year but I think we'll do better than most afl orthodoxy would have us believe.

Further to this it is not in the nature of the organisation to mire.

We don't tank as proven in the last round.

There is a flag to be won in 2018 and we will go for it and see where the cards fall.

Only end of season change that could propel us to where you have said (8-12) is landing josh Kelly.

Slim losses are irrelevant, they are losses.

Don't mind it, BUT
We'd have to land Kelly and have all of Thomas, Blakey, Scott & Crocker all committed.

If we don't get Kelly, we must look at completely bottoming out and getting Rankine, Thomas & whichever of the F/S we can.

This is pure speculation.

Prior to the trade period last year Bryce Gibbs was a loyal Carlton player who would never dream of leaving. By the end of trading not only had he requested trade but they'd spent days trying to broker it.

There is no way you know what irons we have in what fires.

Slim losses are irrelevant, they are losses.

That depends entirely on perspective.

What you say is irrelevant, I can say is an indication.

Ischenko, Donaghue, green and Saunders being moved on according to d barrett

Seems odd, ischenko did well with pruess and after banging on about kangatech they move on Saunders?

Although questions must be asked re injury list

Barrett did say the departures were a mix of us wanting a change and/or the person departing wanting a move, with all being mutual decisions with no bridges burnt in the process.

Hasn't Saunders been based in Adelaide for a while? Makes sense that he'd want to move on.

With the others a fresh start with some new faces shouldn't be a bad thing.
