Is Barry Hall even at the suns anymore? Havent heard or seen much of him since his announcement.

Tigers bulk up with Barry
The Labrador Tigers have managed to secure the services of former Sydney premiership player Barry Hall.

Recent talks with former SUNS and Sydney Swans player Nick Malceski have failed get over the line however, due to Malceski’s contractual obligations with the SUNS and his role as a development coach.

Tigers senior coach Aaron Shattock today confirmed that the former St Kilda, Sydney and Western Bulldog great Hall, has agreed to a minimum of five games with the Tigers in the upcoming 2017 season.

Good to see Labrador securing Bazza's services for 2017. Fair to say they'll be the early favourites this season and are likely to go back-to-back-to-back in the QAFL. Hopefully Brayden Crossley can get some game time with the Labrador seniors this year and Barry can teach him a thing or two about playing as a key forward.

The structure of local south east Queensland footy is slightly different this year:

QAFL - 5 Brisbane teams, 4 GC teams
QFA Div 1 - 4 Brisbane teams, 3 SC teams, 2 GC teams
QFA Div 2 - 5 Brisbane teams, 3 GC teams, 2 Logan teams
QFA Div 3 - 5 Brisbane teams, 1 GC team, 1 Logan team, 1 Ipswich team
QFA Div 4 - 5 Brisbane teams, 1 GC team, 1 Logan team
QFA Div 5 - 5 Brisbane teams , 2 Ipswich teams

Although it doesn't depict it in the picture above, the Ormeau Bulldogs have entered a senior team for the first time and have been placed in the QFA Division 4 so that's good to see another Gold Coast team in the senior fold. That's a total of 11 senior (and 10 reserve) GC teams in the south east QLD competitions. Obviously Southport and the Suns reserves push that to 13 if you include NEAFL. It's also important to note that most of Logan falls under the Suns' academy zone as well:

The green area in the map above is the Gold Coast zone. That means Beenleigh, Jimboomba, Park Ridge, and the SE Suns (Tanah Merah) all fall under the Gold Coast's zone. However, you may notice the Northern Rivers clubs over the NSW border are missing. Does anyone know what has happened to them?

Success of local GC clubs has continued in the 2017 QAFL season with Labrador finishing the home & away rounds undefeated while PBC and Broadbeach finished second and third on the ladder respectively. Labrador and Palmy are currently playing for a spot in the grand final and Broadbeach can eliminate the last remaining Brisbane team (Morningside) tomorrow to qualify for the preliminary final against the loser of the Labrador-PBC clash.

Labrador are the hot favourites for the flag which would mean three QAFL premierships in a row. Going through the whole season undefeated just makes it even more impressive. No such luck for the other GC teams in the QFA Divisions 1-5 but the Northern Rivers grand final will be played today between Byron and Tweed Coast.

Expect another Labrador v PBC QAFL grand final in two weeks with the Tigers going back-to-back-to-back. It will be the first time a QAFL team has done that since Southport back in 1999.

Fire Up Palm Beach!!!

I can only dream
Sometimes dreams become reality - Palm Beach Currumbin 8.12 (60) def. Labrador 3.3 (21). It's worth noting both clubs got their Suns academy players back this week so Jacob Dawson (PBC), Caleb Graham (PBC) and Connor Budarick (Lab) all played in this game. Dawson will compete in his second consecutive QAFL grand final with Palmy as a result because last year he got to play along with current Sun Max Spencer.

Broadbeach is also currently beating Morningside so it looks like we're guaranteed an all-Gold Coast QAFL grand final again in 2017.

Well done Palmy!!!
Woo Hoo.

Good to see a bit of local footy chat going on. I play for Broady so yesterday was a pretty good day! will be a tough ask to beat Labrador though.

Good stuff mate. I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on where Bailey Scott is going to end up (Suns, Cats or Kangas). Seems like he's the most talented player to come through Broady since Zorko.

Does Bailey play at Broady? I've heard his name before but I haven't seen him around. We've also had Lachie Weller come from Broadbeach, who i've played with and also Connor Nutting, who has been awesome for us in this final series. Hoping we rookie list him.

Anyone heading to the Southport Sharks to watch the QAFL grand final between PBC and Labrador at 2:30pm today? The Labrador Tigers are attempting to win three consecutive QAFL premierships while PBC are going for their first ever QAFL premiership.

Early word is Palm Beach are dominating the 2017 QAFL grand final and Caleb Graham is playing forward. Apparently he's playing very well.

17-year-old from Cairns. Don't worry, he's in the Gold Coast academy and looks certain to be drafted to the Suns next year.
