I'm probably worse at drafting than I am at tipping (for those who wouldn't know I am awful at tipping) but reading this thread I can say a win for me was always being very sceptical over Clem Smith. Wish him all the best but never thought he'd make it with us, especially magnified because of when he came to the club. Might be a different story if it was the 2017 draft...

I can't remember too far back but I wanted Touk Miller & Daniel Howe when we got Boekhurst & DVR. That whole draft annoyed me.

Last year I was extremely happy. I remember being disappointed when we didn't pick up LeBois in draft and couldn't believe where we got Macreadie. :straining:

I wanted Aaron Francis or Oliver over Weitering. Whoops

I was also really happy when we recruited Kernahan Dorotich Motley Bradley and I thought the Buzz was back. :)

Few hits and misses for me

2011 - Crozier
2012 - Jaksch
2013 - McCarthy
2014 - L. Weller
2015 - Curnow
2016 - Brodie

2016: Scrimshaw, Macreadie, Patrick Lipinski, Williamson
2015; Weitering, McKay, Francis, Rhys Mathieson
2014; Nakia Cockotoo, Langford, Daniel(?)
2013: Bontempelli, Daniel McStay, Cameron Giles

...Keeping in mind that opinions change over the course of the year up to draft day as we learn exactly which picks we have and what's realistic, so that's an approximate only.

For a better view you'd have to look at who we would have taken considering who was off the board.

Last year I'd have end up taking:

2016: Scrimshaw, Bolton, Graham, Clark, Williamson, Lyons and wanted Stengle over Lebois

I'm glad SOS is in charge but this was still a very good draft year.

I was with you on this but more so after having watched him play for us, just didn't see what all the hype was and trust there were plenty on here over rating him, I called it and had a couple of posters defend him.

I think every Carlton fan wanted Curnow once the previous 11 players had already been chosen, it was just a matter of whether we'd take Milera, Mckay, or not risk Curnow being taken by the Crows. It doesn't stop us from hoping other players slip. The lower you go down the order, the less certain the selections are; except if you are Carlton during the Hughs/Rogers era.

True, but some of us armchair recruiters (me included) take an interest in only a limited number of players, ones that would suit the club and might still be available with our selections. I'm sure a few of us would cheat and make hindsight choices with the ones we are not sure about.

I endlessly talked up the Jaksch trade, proving I know sweet FA about football.

On the other hand, I would've moved mountains to retain Jacobs and promote him ahead of Hampson and Warnock just off the back of that 15 possession, 44 hit out elim vs Sydney. And Talia was an absolute no brainer, ending up with Lucas and McLean ahead of him was classic Wayne

Not a draft pick as such (trade in the 50s?) but to put my credentials on the table, I remember being impossibly excited about what the arrival of Daniel Hartford would mean for the club and Sean Charles and Michael Mansfield and ... you'll be pleased to know I have stopped talking up any player who arrives at Carlton.

Felt we got our man when we drafted Menzel.
Can remember hoping we would take McCarthy when we took Cripps and feeling we could have got both because Cripps might have made it to our second pick.
Felt Boekhorst would definitely have made it to our second pick if not later too (a big reach) and so we could have got a better player with the first pick.
Very happy with what SOS did in 2015. At the time I thought Harry was too speculative and was hoping we get someone more ready to play senior AFL. Happy with what I saw of Harry in his 2 senior matches, good get.
Last year I wanted SPS (posted several times to say that Halls Creek is a long way from Perth, etc) and was thrilled we got him. Fisher I was not sure about but watching him play he has great hands, harasses, tackles, etc. and needs another pre-season. Was hoping we would get Kerr for the romance of it (thought he would go much higher).

And 3 BF recruiters have posted that they would also have chosen Clem Smith !

My BigFooty recruiting career is certainly limited, but in 2013 posted after the trade period this:

"Well played by the recruiting staff, think we have definitely improved our list in the trade period which is the most important thing. I'd love to see Matt Crouch come to Carlton with our first round pick and if Cameron McCarthy is available at pick #13 that makes it a tough choice in my opinion as he'd be very hard to overlook. If we could land Crouch and get Mitch Thorp and Kane Lambert onto the senior list I would be very pleased with our off season going into 2014. Alongside the on going development of last years draftees: Menzel, Temay and Graham who I hope make an even greater impact on the senior team. Things are certainly taking shape for us and an exciting year is ahead for sure."

Crouch > Cripps, hard one as I have a lot of love for Cripps but Crouch was enormous this year and earned an All Australian call-up. Considering he was available at our pick, I wouldn't have been disappointed either way.
The two rookie picks were obviously hit and miss. Thorp never got an opportunity and Lambert was overlooked and taken the following year. Considering our first two rookie selections included Luke Reynolds and Cameron Wood, I certainly would've loved to have given Lambert his AFL opportunity in 2013 after a great year at the Northern Blues. I'll have another crack this year too!

the only one I can remember is really wanting Matt Crouch

though to be honest, it was really only due to really rating his brother so highly around that time (still do)
