Does anyone on here happen know or be able to provide a link to the history of how many minor premiers have actually won the premiership in the same year in VFL/AFL history?
There's this page in Wikipedia:- https://www.wikiwand.com/en/List_of_Australian_Football_League_minor_premiers

As of 2016, 64 of the 120 minor premiers have won the VFL/AFL premiership; 42 have finished as runners-up, and 14 have failed to qualify for the Grand Final.

I don't know of any of the football stats sites that cover this, but (a quick look shows) the Wikipedia figures match what I have and seem to be okay.

Thanks!

That's exactly the information I wanted.

Is there a simple way to find the number of games two players have played together? I'm particularly interested in the 21 players who have played the most games with Nick Riewoldt.

Doubt you'll find a source online, such a specific query is really a job for a database.

If we take the last 50 years from 1967 onward as a sample size:

The Minor Premiers have won the Premiership 21 Times....That's 42%
The Minor Premiers have lost the Grand Final 19 Times......That's 38%
The Minor Premiers make the Grand Final 40 Times...........That's 80%
The Minor Premiers don't make the Grand Final 10 Times...That's 20%

The second placed side wins the Premiership 17 Times......That's 34%..........38
The second placed side lose the grand Final 14 Times........That's 28%
The second placed side make the Grand Final 31 Times.....That's 62%...........71
The second placed side don't make Grand final 19 Times....That's 38%

The third placed side have won the Premiership 7 Times....That's 14%..........45
The third placed side have made the Grand Final 18 Times. That's 36%...........89

The fourth placed side have won the Premiership 3 Times.....That's 6%........48
The fourth placed side have made the Grand Final 7 Times...That's 14%......96

Teams outside the Top 4 have won the Premiership 2 Times....That's 4%.....50
Teams outside the top 4 have made the grand Final 4 Times....That's 8%....100

Most votes a player has got in the Brownlow and Magarey or Sandover in the same year?

eg. has a player ever got 10 Brownlow medal votes and 10 Magarey medal votes in the same year?

Was 2016 the first time that only one team had a winning record in finals?

Something i thought of - whats the least amount of players needed to name to cover every premiership by club? Richmond is 4, and 3 if you include the coach. Fascinated what other clubs would be like.

Hawthorn is also 4/3...With Kennedy covering 1961-1976, with Tuck 1976-1991 & Mitchell 2008-2015.....No Hawk played in both 1961 & 1971.

For richnond its Frank checker hughes 1920/21 and 32 as coach. Jack dyer 34/43. Kevin Bartlett for 67-80. Jack dyer was injured for the 32 grand final so no one played 32 and 20 or 43.

Hard to believe that KB was actually a member of your last Premiership.....I was a teenager back then & now I'm in my 50's....t's been a while.

I think six is the least you can do ours in, not 100% sure about the early years though.

LOL....Oh dear.....You could name 20 players on that one.

Michael Tuck played in his first Premiership in 1976 & his last in 1991....That's a span of 16 years & 15 between his first & last.

Michael Tuck also played in the 1975 Grand Final & his last in 1991.....Making it a span of 17 years & 16 between his first appearance to his last.

Likely a record for both, I'd venture....Would like to see the top 5 on that score.

Has any coach been knocked out in consecutive Preliminary Finals by two of the teams he played for?

I.e. potentially Leon Cameron this week.

If not Preliminary Finals, then which coaches have been knocked out of consecutive final series by two of the teams he played for?

The only coach to be eliminated by two different former playing clubs is Mark Williams.

2002 PF lost to Brisbane
2003 PF lost to Collingwood

Also lost 2001 QF to Brisbane and 2002 QF to Collingwood, but neither of those resulted in elimination.

Neale Daniher lost the 2000 GF and 2004 EF to Essendon.

Dan Minogue lost the 1929 PF and 1932 GF to Richmond (as well as the 1932 SF to Richmond).

David Parkin lost twice to Hawthorn (but was eliminated only once). Rodney Eade did likewise, while Mick Malthouse did it against St.Kilda.
