If it came down to:
1. Win a flag this year and he leaves or
2. Don't win a flag this year and he stays

I like option 1 best
Why are they mutually exclusive? It's not like lever plays = we win the grand final, or lever doesn't play = we lose the grand final. We can win the flag and he leaves.. we just don't play him.

Seeing as we are currently in the final 4 for 2017 and have a genuine HUGE chance of winning the flag this season, I am starting to think.. maybe losing Jake Lever won't actually be THAT bad for us.

Before you bite my head off,. listen to my logic.

Firstly,.. I love the bloke as a player,. And my absolute preference is that he stays... BUT.

If he was to leave (and it looks likely) it may actually work out quite well for the Crows in the short/medium and long term, and here is how;

Jake Lever goes to Melbourne in exchange for 2017 - Pick 10 + 2018 - Pick 13 ( I see the demons improving in 2018).
(We also send a 2018 3rd round pick (51) back to Melbourne to get the deal done)

Charlie Cameron goes to Brisbane in exchange for 2017 - Pick 18
(We also send a 2017 3rd round pick (53) back to Brisbane to get the deal done)

Adelaide then holds:
2017 - Picks 10, 17, 18, 35, 72, 90
2018 - Picks 13, 15, 33, 70, 88 (working on Crows finishing top 4 again next season)

We then sign Tom Rockliff as a RFA on a decent salary, meaning Brisbane gets an end of first round compensation pick (Pick 18) straight back. (Our Cameron pick moves to 19, But the draft order will change slightly for everyone due to free agency signings + F/s selections of course)

We then have two strong drafts over the next two years ahead of us, which we can use to fill with top end young talent OR even trade off for whatever we need to maintain top 4 status, perhaps we move one of our first rounders and change to get Bryce Gibbs this season? who knows.

I see Doedee getting his chance in 2018,. who knows - maybe he is a great replacement for Lever, and remember we also have Keath who is still improving.

Bottom line is,.. yes it will be a blow to lose Lever.. BUT we are likely to get a nice little package in return

GO CROWS. (let's face it,. if we win the GF this season, we won't mind him leaving as much)

Levers plan in an ideal world is clearly to win the premiership with us then leave at the end of the year.

I say we throw a spanner in the works and play him in the prelim, and if we hopefully win tell him to sign a contract extension now or he's not playing in the grand final.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? It would make us into a nation-wide laughing stock, dramatically weaken our standing in the AFL community, discourage other players from considering coming to the Crows, eradicate any semblence of trust our other players have in the club, destroy any goodwill we may have had in trading Lever, probably lead to a legal challenge from the AFLPA, and of course, lower our chance of actually winning the premiership when he rightly tells us to piss off and we have to go in without a best 22 player.

But other than that I guess it's okay.

What standing in the AFL community? No one gives a shit about us now.

Players trust in the club? I think it's about time the club stops trusting the players with the amount of high quality walk outs we have had. Either sign up or get out.

destroy any goodwill we may have had in trading Lever, probably lead to a legal challenge from the AFLPA,

Goodwill in trading lever? There's no good will to the crows as it stands... there was so much goodwill Shown to us with the Gibbs trade last year . Everyone just expects us to fold over. We showed goodwill from the way Dangerfield left. Yay. Goodwill. What does that get you when it's not reciprocated? Nothing.

As far as a legal challenge, you gotta be kidding? If we think our stronger side is without lever because his mind may be on other things like playing for his new club we are well within our rights to do it.

and of course, lower our chance of actually winning the premiership when he rightly tells us to piss off and we have to go in without a best 22 player.

Debatable. If he really does have other things on his mind like this being the last time playing for he club etc who's to say what sort of performance he will put in? And When is he telling us to piss off? We aren't playing him cos he's leaving. That's us telling him to piss off. I don't understand what you are saying there?

Line in the sand imo. Everyone else has signed pretty much, if you're not with us you're against us and we don't need you on grand final day if we make it. We have been screwed enough by players walking out.

Time to show them enough is enough.

Well no one is ever going to say you didn't embrace your inner crazy

Was just a thought I had and the more I think about it the more sense it makes. At least the other poster tried to provide reasons for why it's a stupid idea which I provided a counter argument. Try and engage in a discussion and convince me why it's crazy? Given the fact all the above obviously doesn't convince me and I have a counter view to everything that was posted above which I verbalised.

They're not necessarily mutually exclusive.

I said IF....my point being you do everything possible to win a GF. Whatever it takes

Anyone hear the mail on lever or port list changes on triple m this morning? I assume it isn't anything but just annoying that i didnt hear it.

With the media coverage it has received, the whole AFL world will be shocked if he stays.

I know right.

Getting an amazing ammout of hype and media coverage for a crappy, slow, useless 1 on 1 unaccountable 3rd tall intercept player who plays the easiest position on the ground.A role which any untalented hack on our list could do just as well.

Dont understand what they see in him personally. Maybe its his fabled leadership skills or are these teams willing to pay such overs because he somehow slipped way up the draft and draft position is all that really counts these days when it comes to evaluating a players worth.

Not only all that, but the guy is already 21 so there gos 3 years of his best output right there.

I pity the fools.

Umm I think you misunderstood what I meant. All the media reports are being written as if he has already left, and isn't still playing for a team that has qualified for a prelim. Articles yesterday had discussions around what Melbourne will be giving up in a trade. There is no question on his talent and how good he will be in coming years.

Let's stay on the world of crazy for a while longer...

If we send Lever to Melbourne, what else would we have to send the Demon's way to get Petracca coming back?

Our 2017 first? More?
