Brazil's sportsmanship was shown when only two players stayed after to shake Australia's hand. Alana Kennedy went to shake Martha's hand and she just ignored her and walked past. Disappointing to see from such a huge football outfit in the world.

This is on top of the obvious cheating by the keeper in the shootout at the Olympics too. No one should ever a Brazilian football team on a pedestal. They're campaigners.

Shame there isn't more discussion on the women's game on this board because the skills, strength, endurance and work ethic of all the players in the W-league has increased greatly since the inaugural season and it has flowed through to the Matilda's over the last 4-5 years. They are every bit as good to watch as the men, in fact I'd say they are more enjoyable and less frustrating to watch at the moment. And they are now competitive against the very best teams in the women's game and would consider themselves a genuine chance of winning of the Asian Cup next year and World Cup in a couple of years time.

Great two games this past week by the Matildas, need to stop conceding in the last ten though.

The stories of the some of the players are inspired too. There's not only Sam 'her brother played AFL once you know' Kerr but the two indigenous girls Lydia Williams and Kyah Simon who both had to push s**t up hill to get where they have got. Lisa DeVanna who played on and starred in the 2007 World Cup after her father had passed away. The list goes on.

Increased professionalism, lots of right steps taken to promote the women's game. Sam Kerr helps a lot too! (Saw some of the goals there, you beaut!)

They've been brilliant for a while now, arguably since that disappointing Olympics, well the result anyway.

These girls are great to watch and are never out of any game they play.

From what I've seen much more watchable than the socceroos who look like they're out there looking for a draw plus the women seem not to flop and roll about like the men do (haven't seen the Matildas do it unlike the "entitled" Brasillians)

Looking forward to the two games this week against China. Should be a good test. Sam Kerr is a superstar arguably the best woman's player in the world right now.

Also Emily Van Egmond is a better midfielder than half the guys in the Socceroos outfit.

She's a gem, and is as marketable as they come.

That goal is a thing of beauty

Where's the big money/profile in women's soccer, well big relatively speaking. Guessing maybe the States would be more popular than women's premier league etc as college system would feed it.
NWSL is the US League, one of the best in the world, quite a few of the Matildas team play there, and quite a few yanks come out for our league.

Totally agree with this. Sam will deservedly get most of the attention, but Van Egmond is a boss in midfield. Went to the game last night, she never stopped working.

I looked up Kerr's wiki after posting and saw she played in the US. Some of the teams were averaging 15k crowds but Kerr must play for the GC equivalent in their league in front of 1500 people every week. Her team looks complete rubbish on field too. They were 3-0 down at half time in one game and Kerr scored 4 goals in the second half to win. The GAJ of Sky Blue.

Bloody hell that match was incredible:
