Does anyone know what type of baggage Balic from Freo has? Would get him as a delisted FA or very very late pick in the draft

Just a synergy between where they're at and where we're at.

GCS' initial list build has been a total failure and there are obviously culture issues hallmarked by the sacking of their coach and sulk / departure combo of their marquee player. They're doing a complete list re-build and took four (yes, four!) top ten picks to the draft in 2016.

I am sure they would be very interested in trying to trade into our picks 7 & 8 to give them 2 - 3 top ten picks in this year's draft whereas we'd be happy I think with a fairly well developed player who fits our age profile (~22 - 26).

On the player side, take someone like Jack Martin. GCS are basically asking him to go through another full build, they will be down the mid - bottom of the comp for at least 3 - 4 more years I would say. I think there's a sense that we can definitely prise away some of their better young players for that reason (contracted or not).
Sure that makes sense, but we are missing elite, proven players and the only player on their list who fits that bill is Ablett. None of their players will instantly make us a better side next year or provide anything better than our current players are offering.

Just about everyone who has won the Morrish medal has been a champ , Oliver won 2015

Nowhere near:

https://www.draftguru.com.au/awards/morrish-medal

Champs there like: Hugh McLuggage (looks OK), Clayton Oliver (very good player), Alex Carr (undrafted), Josh Scott (undrafted), George Cameron (undrafted), Ben Cavarra (undrafted), Jacob Chisari (undrafted), Nick Graham (38 games in 5 years), Alex Benbow (undrafted), Jackson Sketcher (undrafted), Dyson Heppell (very good player), Anton Woods (undrafted), Jarryd Blair (decent player), Farran Priest (undrafted), Matthew Kreuzer (good player with injuries), Fortunato Caruso (undrafted), Matthew Bate (102 games in 8 years), Mungara Brown (undrafted), Luke Shackleton (1 game), David Rodan (solid player), Matthew Stolarczyk (undrafted), and of course Lenny.

Most of those guys weren't drafted, plenty of those who were aren't stars.

Someone posted, possibly an earlier thread, that the saints were looking at trading for someone they should have drafted but didn't! It has also been put, many times on this thread that the Saints are heavily into suns players.... Could they possibly have meant a player that they should have made a proper commitment to trade for - rather than put in a half arsed attempt... and now... after all the upheaval at "not so sunny land" .... Does Jarrod Lyons want to come home????? Junior Club: St Peter's (VIC)/ Sandringham U18s. Played great football in 2016, playing 20 games, and averaging 22 disposals, and kicking 15 goals. Was terrific for the crows in that first year after the loss of Patrick Dangerfield.... He is consistent, a good ball-user and capable of kicking goals. Crows didn't want to lose him, just ran out of salary cap space. This year he was equally impressive, if not far better again when playing for the suns.

Jarrod is 25 years old..... Definitely still under contract....... but could it be... that he is more the type of player the Saints are trying to coax out....

Agree but the gettable big fish from this year - Fyfe, Dusty, and Kelly are all gone. Plus we have tons of cap space that has to be used up.

IMO Jack Martin starting on the HFF would be a significant upgrade on Weller/Lonie.

I hope not, he's a good solid player, but way too similar to our surplus of slow grunty mids. Lyon is a good extractor but pretty average kick.

If we did, I can't see Lyons, Stevens, Dunstan, Armitage playing in the same side. I reckon Gold Coast would be desperate to keep Lyons as he is one of their few core age, solid players… also with Ablett leaving, Lyons is nearly their best mid.

cheers mate. that tells me we wont have much coming in terms of trade. maybe 1 player, unless we trade one out
If we get rid of Holmes it'll be 4 spots. I reckon we pick up a player from trade and use 3 picks in the draft.

My memory could be playing up a bit here, but does anyone else recall Sloane saying he would finish his career as a Saints player??
I'm sure it was in one of these BF pages when we were speculating wildly prior to his last signing.
Then again no one else has mentioned it so I could be totally mistaken.

I imagine Holmes staying or not depends on whether Hickey is traded or not.

If Hickey goes, Holmes prolly stays as back-up to Billy.

If Hickey stays, Holmes almost certainly goes, or else Pierce.

Man, what a stuff-up it was giving Pierce that deal!
can always pay him out.

I think they were referring to Petracca. Maybe they need something to complete the trade for Lever and we can step in a provide it. Though it seems like a bit of a long shot. At this stage, i'm hoping we get Martin and Hall and somehow retain a top 10 pick for the draft.

Melbourne and Adelaide need 1st rounders for Lever and Gibbs, but I suppose if Lever gets done the 1st rounders are there for Gibbs

there is no point trading for average to good players just because you can. there is always a big fish who is gettable - dont waste your resources and capital on medium fish just so you can proclaim you have caught something because at the end of the day you will be disappointed. It is better to walk away with no one than settling on a 'pseudo star' to make ourselves feel better.
