The thing with the Morrish is that it's often won by someone who wasn't good enough to play much if at all in the champs, who end up playing most or all of the year in the TAC Cup.

It's harder for those who are really good who miss say several weeks of TAC Cup footy, because of champs games and warm-up games, AIS games, and so-on.

And now with so many also playing so much for their schools, they may only play 2 or 3 Morrish eligible TAC Cup games, if they're also playing champs, AIS, etc.

Why are we all getting our hopes up over Martin?

Has anyone actually said we are a chance of getting him or are we just picking players we like?
It's the Gold Coast thing that we're hearing about, plus the WA reference and then wishing and hoping!

Shaun Burgoyne said Jack Martin is the most talented indigenous footballer he has ever seen.

Food for thought..
Yeah the wraps on him leading up to his draft year (pre the mini draft) were enormous (a lot like Izak Rankine for next year's draft after his underage year this year), but he certainly hasn't lived up to the hype yet.

What's the WA reference?

It's ****ing hard to keep up on here.

I have zero insight into trading for or any news on Martin, I just commented a while back if I could pick anyone after Kelly re-signing I would pick Jack Martin in terms of filling the skillful mid/forward role.

Also if we land him I think I said I would buy 5 Saints memberships so there's a lot on the line campaigners.

They are like opposites though, Martin is inconsistent and Gaff the opposite. Martin is less of mid and could play the Savage role or the Billings role and has never consistently managed to string games together. Gaff is an absolute beacon of consistency, he will get his 25 to 30 possessions most weeks and runs all day. Gaff more of a priority but Martin has the potential to be special in the right environment. Gaff is not an exciting option but he will at least deliver what we need, same with Aaron Hall.
Gaffs consistency is remarkable!
Always runs away from contact
Always doesn't tackle
Always sleeps with the light on

Yeah I rate him pretty highly, his body has let him down a bit but he's proper money ball. His output is huge compared to his profile. He has games where he looks like a superstar.

I don't remember watching him much but his stats are fantastic.

- A couple of 40 touch games, plenty of 30s.
- Mostly outside possessions, averaging almost 20 uncontested.
- Solid tackle numbers despite that, averaging 3.5+, plenty of games of 7+.
- And has had plenty of 5+ clearance games too.
- Kicks goals, gets goal assists, lots of inside 50s.
- 11 Brownlow votes last year in a shit side, he's doing something right.

He's no Gaff but based on that he'd be a perfect fit for us. Provides the outside run but seems to be able to win his own ball and run to defend as well? The highlights suggest he's quick enough and has a nice kick on him too. Fits perfectly with future mids like Ross+Steele+Sinclair as he's different to all of them.

Problem is that he's 27 next year and has only once played 20+ games in a year. He's only about six months younger than Jack Steven, older than Savage and Hickey. He'd be the 7th oldest player on our 2018 list at this point.

If we think we can keep him on the park, get 4-5 years out of him, and we can get him for a reasonable price - surely he's a no-brainer?
