But....

Daniher got a foot off the ground

Yeah Joe must have been at least 30cm off the ground.
In years to come nobody will see the Daniher mark, but they will see countless replays of Howe.

So Howe wins for posterity.

(Just shows how anti the non Collingwood people are; hence another reason want to see Richmond lose as if they'd barrack for us over Adelaide)

since gil has taken over we have had the worse finals series ever umpiring has gone crap and had to rig the brownlow so danger wouldn't finish on the same votes as dusty who deserved to win. Now mr porno moustache wins mark of the year

this is the consequence of leaving decisions to a public vote, which in itself is nothing more than a marketing exercise to benefit the sponsors - Woolworths I believe?

If the AFL were fair dinkum about the award they would make the decision based on expert opinion like the AA side.

Didn't Krak win when a lot thought Walker's was better?
Swings and roundabouts - Howie will be up there again.

Already had a Bomber supporter play "gotcha" with a 6 year old post of mine trying to make a comparison.

Here is where the Walker/Krakouer and Howe/Daniher situations differ quite greatly.

Both Krakouer's and Walker's marks were fantastic in isolation as well as compared to great marks of the past.

Daniher's mark wasn't even a great mark in isolation. Let alone compared to Howe's. Daniher's mark was as regulation as a mark gets in 2017. Daniher's mark wasn't even as good as Grundy's, let alone Howe's.

Krakouer's and Walker's were at least close enough in quality to HAVE the debate.

Howe should've won but these things happen when the public get involved. It becomes a popularity contest instead and therefore flawed.

Give it to the players to vote. Simple.

Being a Public Vote makes it a Joke

Or leave it to the All-Australian selectors like in the past? Or you know, the same way the AA selectors nominated those 3 marks in the first place? Why go with them only to leave the most important part to the plebs?

In all honesty though, the AA selectors make the initial error of even nominating Daniher's mark in the first place. Grundy too. I mean, Grundy's mark wasn't even mark of the week that week, how does it wind up as a MOTY contender?

.

He took a better mark in the first minute of the semi against Sydney...the whole thing is a freaking joke...

Hard to win anything when you play for Collingwood

Hard-er I would have thought Dave. We do win things occasionally BUT you're right, we DO seem to be made to earn things a lot more than most...been the same for us Pies all my life. Part of being a Collingwood person, it's US against THEM ALL.

I just want to say something about Joe Daniher, because I think this controversy is insulting to him, and demeaning his achievement. Joe is a fine person and an outstanding footballer. He's not an unworthy winner of Mark Of The Year, and next Anzac Day I think we should congratulate him. Maybe we can put a picture of his mark on our banner. And at the end of the first quarter Callum can knock his ******* head off. Had an absolute gutful. No way in hell should we allow Mr. Howe to be humiliated on national television. That dumb s**t, pardon me, the CEO of the AFL, had better bloody well apologise. This is the final insult of 2017. There's only one possible reaction. Extreme violence. I went to Woolworths tonight, and I head butted the manager. Did I do the wrong thing? He wouldn't let me vote. He said I was too late. I told him he wouldn't have a job next year when amazon takes over, and then, well, I let him have it. I swear I haven't felt this bad since the Captain & Tennille got a divorce last year. No more performances of Do That To Me One More Time. I wrote to Tennille and told her to get her s**t together, but she told me the Captain was screwing Peaches from Peaches & Herb.
