2018 fixture requests

Since we won't get home finals in either the EF, SF, QF or PF depending on which week (unless it's GWS) then I hope we get 11 home matches

Hawthorn, Collingwood, Carlton unexempt from our ground
Essendon and Richmond on numbers the only two who shouldn't come
Won't happen until our final redevelopment stage

But which teams would be the replacement on Easter Monday?

Hawthorn - Essendon at the MCG? fall back on a traditional rivalry I say.
Could do an interstate "derby"
WCE - Fremantle
Adelaide - Port Adelaide
Sydney - GWS

We were the only side that played the bottom 5 sides only once each in 2017.

Can we please play the bottom 5 sides in 2018 twice each to even things up?

Be unique bud.

Why not something different such as the two upcomers who are soon going to take the comp by storm over the next couple years. Let's manufacture a rivalry since the AFL likes to manufacture narratives: St Kilda v Melbourne.

If Geelong wants more games as part of the redevelopment, why don't they do what other grounds have done and sign contracts with the AFL specifying games BEFORE they expand the ground.

Except of course that the people funding your expansion don't want that so mightn't hand over the money if you insisted on such things.

The real rivalry died at the end of 2013 and basically every game since then has just been flogging that 08-13 period rivalry... 90% of the 44 players from that time are gone now.....

Without Hodge and Mitchell there it doesn't have the same feel.
Same goes for some of Geelongs stalwarts.

In that case GWS v Bulldogs seemed to grow some natural legs after 2016 prelim 2017 H&A match.

As a selfish Freo supporter

2 x SA
1 x QLD
1 x NSW
6 x VIC - 6 Melbourne games.....Geelong and Ballarat can GAGF as Melbourne Membership doesn't cover those pissant locations

* Darwin, * a 6 day break travelling to QLD.

Of course we know the AFL doesn't give a * about supporters of interstate sides.

Not sure if Sydney - GWS would be a good idea since the nrl put a showpiece game on in Sydney that day and it would be up against that but your other suggestions are quite good.

But I would be surprised if the AFL actually does change it.

Oh they will definitely beat the dead horse with the stick, fully expect Geelong v Hawthorn to be on the Easter Monday.. should change though.

I think you get Adelaide twice.
Friday night at the G
And also a night game at Adelaide Oval.

Lol all i hear is “we will be smashed at adelaide oval and it will make our flag look weaker”

Mcg queens
All I've heard is how unfair it is interstate teams don't play at the G then when a perfect opportunity presents "it should be our ground"

I suppose people will want us x2
Except Melbourne :$

Not really. Easybeat team, sure, but we're not likely to face many of them twice, and there are other options we'd clearly prefer.

If the AFL thinks Dusty rejecting you has legs, they might try and squeeze in a game relatively early (your home game so you get the gate from our fans), but more likely it'll just be a single mid-late season match slotted in because you have to play everyone at least once.

You have Vs GWS in India.

Is there any news on the progress of this?

Don't think the AFL or media will be perpetuating the Dusty thing at all to promote the game.
Probably just one meeting next year due to the fact you will get a top 4 fixture.
Hopefully at the G
Outside of the 2015 final we played you there in 2013 (?) and got up by a few points.
