Will be interesting if Lobbe for a late pick is done tomorrow before we've heard the specifics of the Rocky offer. Should get the conspiracy juices flowing on Bigfooty.

I still dont want him but if it can somehow net us pick 2 then I guess we will take him.

For a late pick I've really got no issue. He's the mature ruck cover we've been after for a while and we should have cap space out the wasoo to cover what he's on. Potential pick 2 undeniably a very tasty prospect though.
 
I need some answers if someone could help?

Was our application for a PP offically rejected, if not is there still any faint chance we get one?

When Rocky signs with Port, when do we find out what compensation is? Is it same day?

We don't know. Early in September we said we'd be requesting one at the next AFL Commission meeting (held a few weeks ago) but nothing has been made public from the club or the AFL since that meeting.

When Rocky signs with Port, when do we find out what compensation is? Is it same day?

If we declare our intentions not to match the offer on the same day it should be.

Bit odd we haven't heard, makes me think compo / PP might be tied up in the Rocky sitcho.

Is a pick 2, Ala Frawley to the Dees.. really out of the question?

I really wouldn't know. I'm guessing but I'd say it's unlikely but there's a slight chance.

Holy crap, that's a great idea. Is that possible to get Pick 2 that way or will the AFL try to block that play from happening?
 
I thought the afl came out and said we wont get pick 2 18 will be the best we receive?
Zo maybe the club is happy with 18

I don't know. It's been discussed at some length on a few boards but it's all speculation. If it does occur though I'd say there's not really a lot the AFL could to block it.

I'm sure it's something both clubs will be thinking about. Whether we can actually do the deal is another matter. We also don't want to run the risk of agreeing to take on Lobbe and his contract but the AFL's magic formula still gives us just Pick 19 - i.e we took a stack of a cap space up for 0 gains. Port don't want to up their official offer unnecessarily and then not have us take Lobbe off their hands either.

We find out what the compensation is first. If it's band 2, we don't take Lobbe.

Yes. But this is the issue from Port's perspective. They'll be reluctant to up the Rockliff offer first because of that possible scenario - they'd have given Rockliff an extra 100-200K a year unnecessarily (they can't exactly go back and downgrade the offer once its on the AFL's desk). Therefore they might want to officially to do the Lobbe deal first.

Hahahahahahahah......ha. Sorry, couldn't help myself, don't want to break those rules like when Hawks changed their offer for Vickery at the last moment so Richmonds wouldn't match. Yep, those rules.
 
The AFL will allow certain things to happen so long as they avoid a public outcry.

The Frawley situation, the clubs casual keeness for Rocky to leave via FA, the absolute silence on a PP all tell me that whist obviously optimistic, it is not out of the question we get a band 1.

He goes on 750K, BNF winner, top 5 player.. plus a bit of Frawkey type 'kindness'.. imagine.

They want us to be relevant again.. desperately.

Pretty sure Lobbe is contracted until the end of 2019? So he would come over via trade not free agency therefore can't effect Rockliff compo.

I'm sure the Port/Lions conversation is simple .... Port have (supposedly) offered to pay some of Lobbe's contract to get him off their books. Instead of paying that, bump up rocky's contract by the same amount and we'll give them a draft pick as well. Salary cap wise Port come out neutral but they are guaranteed to get rid of Lobbe and get something back in the process.

And we get band 1 compo.

Simples ;)

That's a big play for something that you have no idea if it will actually work.

So we could get stuck with lobbe and still get pick 18.

Fair few on the Adelaide and Carlton boards though they both have differing reasons for thinking it.
 
Lobbe turns 29 in February. Doesn’t fit our list structure going forward. Are we really going to give games to him, when we have 2 other younger rucks to develop? Big O won the B&F in the twos, would be good to give him some senior games next year.

Whole idea of us being part of some scheme to get pick 2 feels like cheating to me. Either we’re eligible for it, or we aren’t. I’m not in favour of it. Trading for Lobbe should have nothing to with Rocky compensation. Can’t see that we really need him. 3 rucks plus flexibility of Walker & Eagles is enough for mine. Also with Hodge and Cameron coming, we only have 3 vacant list spots at the moment. 2 mids plus Ballenden. We need to trade or delist some players, before we acquire someone like Lobbe. Big No from me.
