With all the talk about Jason Holmes debuting for the saints, got me thinking about whatever happened to Sandford Wheeler.

Article from May 2014;

Moved back to the USA and is now a wealth management advisor with Merrill Lynch in California.

Guys like he, Jamie Lawson and Troy Luff at least gave us occasional highlights back in the dismal early 1990s

Poor bloody lawson could of been a good player

is plugger sick? he looks really emaciated in that hall of fame photo?

He's looked like that all year. He's got into endurance motocross, apparently, so dropped a shitload of weight accordingly. His arms are still as big as my legs, though.

He looks like skelator, but doubt he would be the type to be out and about if he was ill and in the public eye more than ever

Big congrats to Marty Mattner - two out of two in the SANFL.

The GF was vintage Swans-style footy - 14 goals scored.

Fun fact: Sturt lost their first five games.
Marty is a bloody legend. Got a chance to meet him & talk with him at a function the SA Supporter group organised. A really down to earth & likeable bloke I reckon. Not to mention smart operator. He looked at the double blues list & utilised their strengths perfectly. Solid simple gameplan. Nothing flashy. Just get the job done.

Adam Scheider joins GWS as NEAFL coach. I wish him well except when GWS plays the Swans ;)

The Schniederman is back in Sydney!! :p

Loved Schnieds. Was one of my favs before he left & I followed his career closely throughout. One of my most memorable games was his last game (@ Etihad v. Us).

Heartbreaking for him & the Sainters those GF letdowns but reckon he really became a solid leader at the Saints in part because of that failure. He had early success with us then had so many more missed opportunities. A good lesson for the rookies & have heard some good stories re: his leadership qualities & connection with the rookies etc. A bit ala Shawry actually.

Good luck to him. Hope we can poach him in a few years once he's got his coaching eye in. :thumbsu:
