Meant to be Robert Lawrence in here. This is for him

Just chased this up. No Advertiser reference as suspected and nothing in Sunday paper. Could not access News. May chase archives Wednesday. Electoral rolls confirm something as he and Lucy are there in 74 and Lucy only in 1975 second printing

Devil's advocate. That article never mentions his father is called Dave. It mentions his father was known as famous footballer from 20 years earlier 'Bosco'.
That means circa 1893. There's only two Stewarts who played for Richmond VFA (and they appear in that team photo you posted).
John "Jack" J Stewart, who was known as Bosco (played 1885-1893, 95), then went on to be Assistant Secretary 1895, and Secretary 1896-98,, and was on the committee 1886 - 1896, 1899, 1901 - 1904, 1906 - 1911. He received Life Membership in 1895 or 1897.
And William "Ginger" Stewart.(1887-1893, 95, 97)
There's no record of a Dave Stewart playing for Richmond in VFA.

So atm I am thinking there's John "Jack" J "Bosco" Stewart (dob and dod unknown. Possibly died 1944/45), who had a son - Len Stewart as per the article above.
And that there is a Dave Stewart (as in prev post) who may be unrelated, who ALSO had a son called Len(who played cricket for Richmond), and a grandson called Peter Donald Stewart.

Found something that MAY help narrow down the search for John "Jack" J Bosco ? Stewarts dod or dob.
In the 1903 Minute Book, it lists his address as Berlin Street, Richmond.

I just searched on ancestery for a Stewart with the search criteria Berlin Street, Richmond Victoria and came up with the following references electoral roll references:

1903
Alexander Stewart
Colin Campbell Stewart
Charles Stewart
Frank Stewart
George Stewart
John James Stewart

1905
John James Stewart
John Allan Stewart
Alexander Stewart
Frank Stewart

!906
Same as above
Robert Stewart
Robert Henry Stewart

Using the same criteria on Trove

In 1907 , there was a reference to Mrs JJ Stewart, aunt of one Ms Tempany ( ? are they related to Bruce Tempany)

http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article175792561

The Stewart Tempany's lived at Newry Street Burnley and had a silver anniversary in 1914.

In 1908, John James Stewart, manager of Lewis and Whitty ( they made soap and culinary essences among other household items) of Berlin Street gave evidence in a case

That's some good detective work Harry
We now know what the middle J stood for in John J Stewart, so thank you for that. Slowly but surely we are getting to his dod.

Hmm I notice now there is a John James Stewart death notice on 2 January 1951 . D: Prahran East. , B: Liverpool England.
BDM (471) says he was 88. Would make him born in 1863, which would make him 22 at time of his playing debut in 1885. So that all fits in. (though Richmond AR seems to list him as deceased around 1944-45 in the Life Members column. )

There is also a John James Stewart death notice on 3 Sept 1940 D: Mont Park. Aged 79. That makes his birth 1861, making him 24 on debut. B: Melbourne West. The obit notice does say 'late of Richmond' beloved husband of Elizabeth Jane Stewart , loving father of Lindsay , loving grandpa of Colin and Graham. So that could be him as well.

I'll check the minute books to see if there is any correlation

Edit: Nothing yet near those dates in the Minute Books (mind you they may have simply forgotten about him after all these years)

suggests this could be the match above

Alexander and Mary Stewart (Monaghan) had
Charles Alexander 1858
John James 1861-1940
William Henry 1863
Robert Crawford 1866-1937
Eliza Ann 1869

John James marries an Elizabeth Jane TEMPANY in 1889 (1864-1940)

Alexander Frederick 1890-1961 seems to be the only child?

Colin Campbell 1863-1909 is/could be the child of Colin Stewart and Catherine Conway
This couple had
Marion 1855
Esther Catherine 1857
Lilly Margaret 1859-1861
Elizabeth 1860
Alice Floria 1865

1905 John Allan Stewart could be 1881-1952 born to James Allan and Louisa Kennedy (Adams)

Based on this the 1903 household could be this ( very male oriented)
Alexander is the father or JJ son
Colin Campbell (cousin?)
Charles (Alexander) brother/son
Frank ??
George? ?
John James himself

SEVENTEENTH MISSING BATCH OF DOD

Samuel "Sam" Alexander Reid
- Carlton 1897 (b: 17/6/1872) Orig club Hawthorn
I hope these are easier than the last lot!

Just a snippet from Blueseum that might help with this fellow:- Crossing with the Blues into the VFL from Hawthorn (VJFA), Reid played 3 games in the Navy Blue. His full name was Samuel Alexander Reid and his parents were James and Ann Eliza (nee Ralston) Reid.

http://www.blueseum.org/Sam+Reid

And George Prismall:- George Prismall was a rough, tough defender who came from Fitzroy Seconds and Brunswick. Prismall then returned to Brunswick and later served overseas with the Merchant Navy during World War II.

Thats a good one and we have to decide if 1871/1872 is a dealbreaker?

Your Sam was born in 1871 to James and Phoebe (Dodds)

1872 was born to James and Ann Elizabeth (Ralston) and is specified as Samuel Alexander
Blueseum says this is the one ^. Close, but no cigar, for me, most likely!

left him in 1919, but returned shortly afterwards. They continued' to live together, but the differences over the religious upbringing of the ' children recurred, and his wife left him as stated, taking the children with her. He came to Queensland and had lived here for the last 11 years.

SEVENTEENTH MISSING BATCH OF DOD
<snip>
Leslie "Les" Roy Richards - Nth Melb 1928 (b: 2/11/1902) Orig club Cowangie
<snip>

We have another "Billy Ahern" type situation...

Leslie Roy Richards born 1902 reg# 30081 in Vic BDMs
parents - Thomas Frederick & Mary (nee Deadman)

Leslie Roy Richards died [10 April] 1911 reg #594 in NZ BDMs
aged 8 years
Ancestry trees and other NZ records have both Mary (1927) and TF (1945) as deaths registered in NZ.

<snip>

And George Prismall:- George Prismall was a rough, tough defender who came from Fitzroy Seconds and Brunswick. Prismall then returned to Brunswick and later served overseas with the Merchant Navy during World War II.
http://www.essendonfc.com.au/our-club/history/past-player-profiles/past-player-profiles-p

Prismall served in the British Merchant Navy. There is a discharge record (R263408) for him in list of WW2 medals for Merchant Seaman.
A shipping arrival record of 4 June 1943 in New York has him listed in crew aboard SS Empire Emerald which departed from Glasgow:
aged 28 and as an Australian national, his height and weight are shown as 5ft 8in, and 170 lbs.

The 1947-48 electoral rolls for the Kensington area of London have a George Henry Prismall listed but no other detail.

Interesting and well spotted. Leslie Roy was born/registered in Walhalla in the Gippsland (180km from Melbourne in an easterly direction) . A little far away from Cowangie but travel isnt excluded.

We can at least confirm a player called Richards from Cowangie played for NM in 1928. Not a very nice description but nonetheless a Richards played
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article202299976

At the beginning of the season it was thought that Richards, the hefty Cowangie player, would compensate somewhat for the absence of Lewis, but
although lie showed brilliant, marking form,, his general play left much to be desired, and his name was emitted from the list.

So we have this to work with

In 1927 we learn L Richards is Cowangie captain. Doesnt describe him but its one step forward http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article222819744

Hmm the following may well be flights of fancy but lets see where it takes us. Looking up Richards Cowangie we see an advert for a DA Richards taking over a shop in Cowangie http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article3786134 chasing up D.A Richards we see a notice for owners of a horse called Royal Oak , 3 chemists
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article22724485 A.T. Richards , G.M. Richards and D.A. Richards trying to find a name for these chemists was a chase but eventually we find a clue in this notice Letters of Administration where we see an Aeneas Tennyson Richards http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article11006596
Chasing his BDM records we see born 1893 to David and Catherine (Cunningham) . Checking Richards with Cunningham we find our brothers David Alex 1895 George Malcom 1916 (big big gap?? ) We have deaths for AT and GM in 1976 and 1977 respectively.

But we also see a Lachlan Adrian Russell Richards born 1901 L. R. hmm the only other Trove insert is an advert for costs against storage and a family notice/memoriam , no names just a Lachlan (Lock) Richards died accidentally on Ocean Island in 1930 http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article4387658

Ocean Island is now commonly known as an island in the Kiribati group.

As noted these are flights of fancy and must be treated with care. I do like the links to Cowangie though.

Well done, you've certainly found the L Richards b1901 d1930.
In Vic BDMs Lachlan Adrian Russel Richards reg #5396 in 1901 parents David & Cath (nee Cunningham) in Murumbeena district.

Death notice in The Argus mid-April 1930 http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/4081266
youngest son of David and Catherine Richards, ...late of Oakleigh and Cowangie
...and the one inserted by his friends uses the nickname "Lofty" -
press reports of his play describe him as a hefty sized ruckman.

...and I see that mid-June 1928 has the permit ref for him to go from
North Melbourne to Oakleigh, which ties in with that location mentioned in his death notice.
