Has it been confirmed that Thomas is being elevated? We've signed him for a year contract. He has 1 more possible year on the rookie list. Supposedly, rookies won't need to be elevated for an LTI to play next year. Why would we elevate him?

No supposedly about it. It's in the CBA.

But yes, there is no need to elevate him this year. If they see him as a best 22 player, then they can still play him while maintaining maximum flexibility in list management...

Can’t see a bid coming for him that early surely! Nowhere near rated as highly as Callum and even he didn’t attract a bid until 35. Honestly I think it’s more likely going to be another Daicos situation where we just select him rather than having to match a bid.

Neither can I, but I think it’s a scenario we still need to be prepared for. The production isn’t there with Tyler, but given the nature of this draft post pick 30 there’ll be a few speculative picks and his game looks more AFL capable than Callum’s, IMO.

I think all we’ll need to be prepared for in that scenario is the club not matching a bid. I like the look of the kid, but his production doesn’t warrant a pick in the 30’s. I’d be really annoyed if a player like Wooller or Clavarino or Petty was still on the board and we burned picks on Brown instead.

Thanks for the confirmation. Therefore assumedly we'll be going with a list of 40 this year.

Geez I hate the term production when talking about these kids. Such a stupid term. Next we will use champion data stats to choose our draftees

Scenario:
A bid comes in for Tyler Brown comes in at 37. Ed Richards is on the board. The club can have one but not the other.

What do you do?

WHAT DO YOU DO????

Take the better kid, and if it’s Richards, it’s Richards and sorry brown

haha, he can't be there at a later pick if a bid has already come for him like the scenario proposed.
Your right, will edit.

Unromantic, but if you've taken a mid at 6, you ignore them both and draft the best available kpd.

Queensland boy.
If he has a good 2018 he may be a valuable piece in getting Lynch over. Easier to do if he's on the senior list.

You must have missed Collingwood's participation in Trade Week and the subsequent furore on this board.

Not now, can play firsts wether your a rookie or not. No upgrade needed apparently.

Yea I know, but the discussion is about trading of rookies, not playing them.

Sydney were able to force us to trade for Murray (a cat b rookie), by offering him a senior list contract. Had he refused the contract, he would have been forced to step away from AFL for 12 months. I didn't think this applied to regular rookies such at Thomas who can just walk at the end of their contracts and go wherever they choose as a free agent, but I might be wrong? Can anyone confirm?
