Yeah, I've been recommended to do the Myki stuff online. Bit worried about relying on public transport, given that it's basically non-existant in Tassie and I've never had to do it before. Should be alright though, I imagine many people are in the same boat.

Not too worried about the rain and cold, especially not the cold. If you hadn't noticed, the title says I'm from Tassie. ;)

Really excited though. Melbourne is my favourite city and there's so much to do.

I'm just over exaggerating a tad re. the public transport dont worry. Maybe once a year or so the whole thing will get shut down re. a signal fault/black out or some s**t. Usually its ok.

But then again I drive to work ;)

Oh yeah- be warned traffic. Is s**t ALL the time. Even weekends, even Sunday- its horrid. Try and come up with some good alternative routes or just allow a lot of time to get somewhere.

Yeah, I won't be driving. I'll be catching the train, might buy a car if I find it's really shitting me. Trams seem to be fine for the most part, at least in comparison to Tassie's "might come late, might not come at all" bus system.

Yeah dont worry about a car then you'll be fine, since you're so close.

I'd go PT >>> car any day in that instance imo.

Yeah, but at least people go to jail for murders in Victoria. I know a bloke with a jar of human thumbs, and I wish I was joking. Where I live in Tassie is about as close to lawless as it comes.
His name isn't Caesar is it?

Bayside with the elite.

- Brighton is not great for PT, you have trains but no trams and no self respecting Melburnian gets a bus... ever. So if youre a hike from the station you might need to review. Other option to consider would be buying a bike, beach road is an easy cruise into the CBD and its very Melbourne
- Brighton and surrounding suburbs do have everything youll ever need but its expensive
- Hop and skip to Balaclava and St.Kilda which are great for bars, food etc.
- Beach is close but honestly anything pre Frankston down that way is an average beach (yeh even Brighton and Edithvale etc)
- Not sure what else to say? ANy specific queries?

If you have a car you should bring it with you. Trains and trams are good (and if you're living in Brighton and working in the CBD that won't be a hassle at all) but it won't take long to realise there's plenty, plenty suburbs in Melbourne without. Relying on public transport to visit the country or national parks on the weekend will also quickly suck or not happen. Bringing home a week's worth of groceries is also a bastard of a thing on public transport.

Crown Casino is a shithole, glorified shopping centre. Don't go there.

If someone says Flinders Street station is awesome it means they use it 6 times a year to saunter to the MCG. It's a ******* dump.

Really hating on a lot of stuff that's not bad or good there mate.

You don't need a car and if you wanna do the odd road trip just use goget/flexicar

Tend to agree on the cas but also if your from tassie you'll wanna give it a look, especially if you want to gamble a bit

Flinders street is still a great landmark and a pretty efficient station (especially by aus standards)
