JAIDYN Stephenson's manager Robbie D'Orazio has played down concerns over a medical irregularity that surfaced recently for the top-10 draft prospect.

Stephenson has been touted as an early selection for this season's NAB AFL Draft for several years, having burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old playing with the Eastern Ranges.

He enjoyed a strong season this year, moving into the midfield from half-forward and averaging 23 disposals a game at TAC Cup level.

However, some clubs have requested extra information in recent weeks regarding an irregularity with Stephenson's heart that came to their attention at the NAB AFL Draft Combine medical testing last month.

Some clubs have expressed more concern than others over the issue that only arose in recent weeks, with some less worried.

D'Orazio, from Connors Sports Management, said the 18-year-old had seen specialists and had been cleared to pursue an AFL career.

"On medical advice that we've received there is no risk in picking Jaidyn Stephenson in this year's draft," D'Orazio told AFL.com.au.

"The information that has been received and handed to the AFL clearly states that the specialists are happy for Jaidyn to enter the AFL and have a long career.

"We can only go on the advice given from the experts in this field."

Stephenson finished his season in brilliant form, kicking three goals in a best-on-ground display at the MCG in the NAB All Stars game on Grand Final morning.

He then backed up that performance by showing his athleticism at the draft combine, where he ran the 20-metre sprint in 2.95 seconds and in the top-10 in the new Yo-Yo endurance test.

He has been tipped as a possible top-10 pick ahead of next week's national draft.
A clip from the Saints interview with Stephenson.

AFL draft prospect Jaidyn Stephenson shouldn’t be overlooked due to heart condition, says manager
SAM LANDSBERGER, Herald Sun
November 14, 2017 3:00pm

AFL CLUBS have been urged not to overlook one of the country’s hottest draft prospects because of the recent revelation he has a heart condition.

Ferntree Gully boy Jaidyn Stephenson’s manager said medical experts had cleared the line-breaking midfielder fit to be taken in next Friday’s AFL draft.

The Eastern Ranges star has long been considered a top-10 selection with North Melbourne (pick No.4), Fremantle (No.5), Collingwood (No.6) and St Kilda (No.7 and 8) circling.

While Stephenson, 18, could still be taken with a prized selection, his draft ranking is suddenly unclear.

Stephenson was best-afield in the AFL Grand Final curtain-raiser and booted five goals from 28 disposals as Vic Metro smashed South Australia on Etihad Stadium this year.

The speedster’s manager, Robbie D’Orazio, said he was at “no more risk than any other player” in this year’s draft.

“We’ve left this to the medical experts, and the doctors that Jaidyn’s been working with on this have said there is no issue,” D’Orazio said.

“Whatever club picks Jaidyn will have a player that will play for a long time. He’s an outstanding character and winner of the AFL Life Members Scholarship.

“The clubs that don’t pick him because of this will regret it, because he’s going to play for a long time.”

Champion Data ranks the X-factor player No.3 in this year’s draft, ahead of dux fancies Luke Davies-Uniacke and Paddy Dow.

The young leader excelled at draft combine testing last month and impressed the Kangaroos when he trained at Arden St earlier this year.

The Herald Sun knows of clubs that will now pass on Stephenson. They deem the potential emotional and liability risks too great.

“It’s serious,” one chief recruiter said.

“We haven’t made a final call, but it’s a big worry. But every club will view it differently, and that’s important. It’s certainly very well-known.”

Stephenson has been reviewed by multiple cardiologists. Some reports have been sent to the AFL under standard draft protocols.

Most clubs learned about Stephenson’s heart issue in early October.

Stephenson finished his Year 12 exams on Tuesday and will now recommence meeting with AFL clubs.

Stephenson averaged 30 disposals in the last five TAC Cup games and averaged 117 SuperCoach points for Eastern this year.

As I have previously posted, our first pick in both 2015 and 2016 were Indigenous kids. I dont think there is any that will be considered to 7 and 8 this year, so who will we get with 34? Will one of Bailey, Garner, Kelly, Ryan, Hayden, Patemore be taken? Richo seems to be keen on these boys.
Going by the Twomey-Ablett mock and the Official Bigfooty phantom Bailey might be gone but the other indigenous players to consider for our picks might be ...
Tim Kelly
Joel Garner
Nathan Kreuger (yes, he's indigenous and he's tall)
Aiden Domic
Jake Patmore
Liam Ryan
Adam Sambono
Kyron Hayden
where is the mature age recruits Kelly and Ryan , at least one will be in the top 30 anyway ....
be interesting who falls to us at pick 34
The prime candidates available after 30 (if Twomey and Ablett are right) we might consider seriously seem to be ...
Tim Kelly (mature age)
Joel Garner (can he fight?)
Ryley Stoddart
Jordan Houlahan (is he what we need?)
Dylan Moore (too vanilla?)
James Worpel (can he improve his efficiency?)
Jackson Ross (tallish but is he tough enough?)
Andrew McPherson
Brayden Ainsworth (overager)
Ethan Floyd

... unless we look at a tall like ...
Charlie Ballard
Harrison Petty
Sam Taylor
Oscar Clavarino

So twomey and Ablett believes that murphy will be late first Rd and bonar reckons he's between 10-15 but afl draft central and bishop (matt balmer) have said that 'ST kilda will atleast pick 1 draft bolter in murphy or bonar, then select the best mid available' only 10 days out from the draft and still lots to play out. Will be interesting to see who's right but I'd be leaning towards twomey as he seems the most connected and has the best hit record.

I’m new to all of this, does U.I. Have a good track record with inside info?
He made the Herald Sun last year for breaking the news on here that he'd heard Sam Mitchell could be traded to West Coast days before the media cottoned onto it. They actually quoted his post in the paper.

Haven't heard or seen what his record is like outside of that and now this, but I think it's pretty safe to say he has a very good source or two.

There's no guarantee that any of the young guys mentioned will make it at senior level- it's still just hit and miss. Best bet is to go for the most talented right now- not someone that needs to be moulded into a player..end of story.

They are 18, they ALL neex to be molded into a player....your story had a ways to go.

Dylan Moore isn't too Vanilla, he's too much like Tyrion Lannister.
Meanwhile the girl who comes up in google when you put Dylan Moore in seems easy on the eyes.
