Injury Ankle Surgery for Jamie Elliott

I'm on the "club is incompetent" bandwagon.
I know many here are defending the club but this crap happens too often.
What was that minor hand injury that Witts had? Club couldn't even do a simple thing like apply a band aid without the friggen thing getting infected and causing extra time out of the game.
And sure let's see if rest will be enough for Jamies' injury to heal. But guys maybe if you did a few check ups and scans over the last 3 months you would have seen it's not responding.

At the time of Beams’ 14wk quad injury I believed the drug suspension rumour because I thought there was no way a professional outfit could miss-manage a quad injury to the point it takes 14wks.

Now with the level of incompetence we’ve from our medical staff the past few years, I’m starting to think it really was a 14wk quad.

Do you realise a surgeon made the decision?

Maybe we should find different surgeons because this stuff keeps happening way too much. It wouldn’t be surgeon alone, would be in consultation with our medical team. Which appear to be a medical version of Keystone Cops.
Maybe we should realise these things aren’t as simple as fixing a flat tyre.

Our medical team would be no chance to fix a flat tyre. The tyre could be completely flat and they’d say it just needs rest before driving another 300km and then finally putting on a patch on it but the wrong kind of patch.

If it makes it easier for you to blame the club then go for it. Try not to make yourself look too silly though.

There's a balance. If the club pokes it's nose into the minutiae of players lives in the off-season the culture is described as bad or overbearing, if they let it go that's negligence. It's the old freedom/security trade off.

I'm sure the club has tried to navigate something sensible in the middle. Sometimes things don't work out.

If it's a long-term trend overall - that we have worse injury stats - that's an issue assuming here that the injuries are strains and not impact injuries. Impact injuries are going to happen when you go hard.

I've yet to see anyone provide any kind of analysis which would suggest we're better worse or in the middle zone regarding injuries across the comp.

Collingwood Director of Football, Geoff Walsh, explained that further rest was unlikely to allow the 25 year-old two-time Gordon Coventry Award winner to properly prepare for the 2018 season.

“The injury was one Jamie played with late this year. The recommendation post-season was that with a spell from the rigours of playing and training the ankle would heal. Unfortunately the healing process has been slower than expected and surgery is now appropriate,” Walsh said.

“We’re expecting to have Jamie back into the full training program by late January.”

From the cfc website.

I really don't see an issue with (after the medico's advice), that rest didn't heal the ankle as good as they thought it would, that now he goes in for surgery.

No biggie.
Yep, surgery is always the last option, good news for me is it isn't his back again, can't do any training with a bad back.

2 or 3 weeks after ankle surgery he should be able to train, running will obviously be out of the question so swimming-weights-bike and rowing should keep the body ticking over.

Doubt he'll be able to stand on tippy-toes to wee in a wheely bin!!!

Here you go again defending the club regardless of what happens. Call it out for what it is for once!!!

Not sure relaying a message constitutes a defence but don't let that stop you jumping to conclusions, you can use the exercise.

Amazing how the problem with his ankle came to light just when he's due to return from holidays.

Fortunate timing for Elliott that one.

Does anyone know what the club expect from a player in the off season when he is to "rest" an injury to avoid possible surgery?

If he's chasing scantly clad young women across the beaches of Ibiza, hiking, water skiing or doing whatever physical activity he likes to do I'd hardly call that resting an injury.

At the very least he should have been made to come to the club a month ago to undergo an exhaustive fitness test to see if the "rest" had done it's job.

Did he?

I bet he didn't and if so that seems like an obvious and easy practice to implement in the future.

Hell if the review has taught us anything it's that the club has missed the mark in a lot of areas in recent years and questions should continue to be asked.

According to the story in the Hun today, Walsh said the club has been monitoring Elliotts ankle since the season finished, recommendation from the specialist was rest should allow it to heal. Again, you just seem desperate to find a negative.
