No I don't but the fact we are relying on two 30 year olds in defence and Moore an Cox up forward doesn't inspire me with confidence in 2018.

They better have Lynch signed sealed and delivered because this draft didn't rectify any of our team imbalance.

By the way all the best to the three new Pies. Looking forward to watching them play in the Black & White for many years to come.

Can't Draft what is Not There. Murphy could play as a 3rd Tall

I asked because don’t know either. Not sure what to make of him

Not sure why all the melting on here. Our developing key stocks will be right to go this year, so a spine of Dunn, Moore, Grundy, Reid & Cox should cause some headaches for opposition teams.

Stephenson is a gun, has all the tools and wins matches. Dominates games almost every time he steps onto the field, including the Stars game, & he could even pinch hit as a perm forward with his long reach and athleticism. Elite endurance, pace, marking, ferocious with the contested stuff & scope to fill out. Field kicking iffy, but never struggles to put it through the big sticks. Judd is the best comparison I can think of for him, who also has had a slight question mark over his field kicking!

Murphy seems like the Dayne Beams pick all over again. Clubs rated him highly, but too nervous to pull the trigger... we weren't. Great kick, elite endurance, outstanding mark and goal sense.

Both could easily play roles next year, and we could soon have a beastly core that rotates between midfield and forward, provided De Goey, Maynard & Wills can really step up.

Could be worse. Imagine Bruce reading it out
Bruce would be better.

Pity if Cyril walks up the aisle....

Then mop bucket aisle one.....

Do illegitimate children count in the father-son rules? Interesting question tbh.

It's "father - son", not "happy perfect family - son" so I'd guess so.

My spreadsheet proving absolutely worthless to me this draft haha it's all over the place!

We could almost get Nathan Murphy with pick 38 here...
Let's hope you're right

:D:D:D

In a few years Dunn Reid and Cox will all be 30 plus and definitely two of them will be finished that leaves us with Moore

I actually missed most of the draft because my damn son wouldn't fail at high jump at little aths, seemed to go forever, he broke the centre record for u9s though at 1.17 (he cleared 1.20) next year he goes after Caleb Marchbanks u10s record at 1.26, very proud dad here :)

I think he could push for Marchbanks record this season as it's still early, i'd be rapt if he cleared 1.25 this season though , Australian u9 record is 1.40 if my research is correct.

If the pies are confident about getting Lynch next year. This is the perfect way to draft. These guys are modern game style players add lynch and it looks even better. When we draft players with lack of pace and footskills everyone complains. When we add those players everyone complains. When these guys come in they will also make players like crisp and WHE harder to match up on. I think it was our best draft in a while especially considering we didn't have a second rounder.

And what about the massive risk that Lynch stays at Gold Coast considering they have a young up and coming list and the AFL are determined to bankroll Lynch staying at the club? Unless we have a guarantee from his manager he will move it's so risky it could be considered foolish.

So I just just watched the draft (I had to record it because I was at work), I was really keen on Fogarty but I can live with Stephenson. I know it's not so much an issue for the Vic clubs, but I'm okay with taking the Vic kid and leaving Fogarty in SA (yes, I know it makes no difference, we already have Scharenberg and Grundy as highly rated SA picks).

But anywho, I had a feeling we'd be the first team to pass. I'm not overly familiar with the list management aspect of draft day etc, but what's the deal with passing? What would our approach be for not making a pick?
Essentially I'd say, with what is left, the feeling would be, better take them as rookies with a one year contract v take them in the national draft with a mandatory two year contract.

Also a consideration would be having a bit more in the kitty of the salary cap for next seasons all out assault.

A realy simple decision might be, if what's left is Corey Gault level, is it better to give the new Gault two years or one year?

Which makes you wonder what the plan is for key forward. We're pitifully thin there with only Moore, Reid and Cox really up to it.
Thats a fair point.
Perhaps adding a new Gault was not helpful either.

If anyone can walk away from this draft and be convinced we did well from it.. just sugar coaters mate.

This excuse that Murphy was hidden away by Hine.. ridiculous. The bloke is playing in broad daylight for everyone to see. He's a cricketer for crying out loud. We overlooked some proven tac cup players.

Then there's Tyler.. if we got him cause he was the best available at that stage.. then fair enough.. I don't believe he was though.

Stephenson I can understand.

They may all turn out to be great or whatever.. but I'm not overjoyed about it all at this stage. Sitting on the fence.

What the hell is our theory behind no kpps when we're woeful in that department. What the hell are we doing.
I think Hine had every intention to go tall with 38, but when Murphy was still there he had to go that way, and when Brown was bid on he had to go that way too. Combined with not many talks left the plan to get a tall was stuffed.
Saying that though I thought Butts was a chance.

I hate being a negative nancy. I'm generally one of those hippies who is always positive about life, but I struggle to get excited about this draft. We went for the unusual picks (as per usual), Stephenson is a risk at 6 that we didn't need to take. His kicking is below par.

Nathan Murray is just a project player, who is basically a 50/50.

Tyler Brown has a long long way to go.

Don't get me wrong, I want these players to become hall of famers. However, I struggle to see if any of them are ever going to be above average.

Ps, I hate to f$&king say this but the tigers killed it. Amazing drafting by them. Only change would be CCJ for Taylor. Higgins, CCJ, Balta, Naish and Miller. Maybe the loss of Balme has been underestimated by our footy department? They recognised an issue and sorted it out completely.

It's all about speed, outside run, creativity and the out and out freak ability that we sorely lacked

*We'll do something about the keys later, but the list was looking one paced and it had to be fixed

Lynch isnt the only one out there... Patton also a chance

It's a bit of a stretch to call Murphy a project player; just because he has a cricket background as well, doesn't diminish the fact that he has some very good footy skills, and was seen as a top 30 pick by a lot of people. Nothing is certain in footy, so he may have a great career or he may not, but the chances of him making it are higher I think than what you'd expect from a typical 'project' pick.
