It's all about speed, outside run, creativity and the out and out freak ability that we sorely lacked

*We'll do something about the keys later, but the list was looking one paced and it had to be fixed

Spot on outside of Treloar and WHE we don't many players who can just Turn a game Around. Was not a Ton of High Quality Talls in the Draft.

Next Years is the KPP Draft so Hopefully we can Trade into it

Only concern I have with Murphy is that he was invited to the draft (potential top 10) yet no one else took him in first 38. You would think it must have been us, Saints, Dogs or Blues who had him in their top 10 list based on being the later draft picks. Saints didn't take him at 35, Blues didn't at 30, Dogs didn't at 16 so unless Dogs rated Richards very highly (I can't remember if he was invited to the draft but guessing he must have given a little bit of speculation we were into him at 6) than Pies have dodged a bullet that someone more highly rated was available at 6 (otherwise we might have taken Murphy there instead of 39).

His combine 2.95sec 20m means he does have more toe than Pendles and whilst I think he could learn lots from Pendles (as any draftee could), 1 question mark I have on his game is kicking for goal so from your post JS may already be ahead of him there. Where do you see his best position on our list short and long term? Could it be HFF (use pace and kick goals) / wing in short term?
definitly see him playing hff...but drifting between wing and hff...eventually definitly midfield...look at dangerfield at the same age....scrawny and skinny just like jaidyn...will fill out over time....dont be surprised if he puts on 5 kg over summer...his work rate is immence and he will be be working out a lot to bulk up...jaidyn is a now person....thrives on the moment...hence why he is an awesome big game player...possitive to the core...backs himself and wont stand down to no one type of attitude...:)

In a few years, our spine should be McLarty, Kelly, Grundy, Lynch, Moore... which will be even better
Sorry, brain freeze, who is this KPP Kelly? Only Kelly's that come to mind are Josh and Jake, neither I believe to be KPP. Is it a draftee for next year?

It did seem to fall into place that he was still there at 39. Maybe we were the only ones thinking of Murphy in the top 10; hence the invite.

He may have been our back up if Stephenson's medical issues didn't sort themselves out. We were the first ones to talk with Murphy and it's on record we've liked him for a while.

Craig's younger son; Will (brother of Jake). About 193cm I think and yes available to us as a F/S next year.

Power was out during the draft last night and I followed some on my phone. Saw pick 62 and couldn't tell it was North not us due to lack of colour differentiation on small darkish screen. Was thinking who the F is Kyron Hayden and why are we taking yet another mid?

If we were going to take someone there wouldn't have minded Miller. Even if he's another Jesse White, I'd be okay with that for some KPP depth, would even make him a defender, think taller, faster, more agile Jack Frost, but can kick.

his kicking has improved a lot...watch the all stars game...was pretty good there....he will do a clanger now and then like all players do.....his shot for goal on the run or stationary is elite......just when he goes to hit up a target is the only time he may clunck it but....you have time and hes a very good student and will learn from people who are will to invest time into him....i can see him hanging out with pendles a lot and learning the art of hitting a target ...he will definitly get better....i think he is you pendelbury replacment....plays a bit like him /dangerfield...elusive and good decision maker but maybe has a bit more toe than penles......great selection....only thing is...for the first time in my life...i have to go for collingwood sometimes...but never against the bomber...i can see it now....he will tear us up on anzac day hahahahahahaha

2nd That. Watching the Highlights during the Year in youtube Video's his Kicking looked better and better and the All-Star Game his Kicking I felt was very good.

Glad to see Improvement like that

Anyone else watch the short 1 min clip of Hine post draft on CTV?

I think he was a bit chuffed with how the draft turned out. Almost smiled the whole way through the interview; very un-Hine like!

He always is.

I dont see too many kpps taken after our pick 60 so the club was probably right to pass. They can get some depth in the rookie draft. Maybe they shouldnt have delisted Schade. And now with three midfielders on the books (plus the kid traded in from the Swans) that might make it harder for Oxley and Ramsay to press their case for rookie listing....being that a tall or two is now a higher priority.

The lack of a kpp with pick 39 in this years draft is because Nathan Murphy was considered too good to pass up. Whilst the balance of the list suffers as a result, you dont pass on quality on draft day. As others have said we picked up two first rounders despite trading away our second round pick. Good result.

Short term, lots of pressure on Cox and Moore to continue to improve, Dunn and Goldsack to backup lasy seasons great output, and Reid to stay fit. For depth theres only McLarty and Blair and whoever we find in the rookie draft.

If everyone thinks we are going hard for Lynch (which I hope we are) Why would we have pissed away that 2nd round pick in 2018? We are going to need a lot of currency to get him

2018 1st and 2019 1st

Thought he was a FA? Besides theres plenty other picks to trade to land him. I doubt that pick will affect our trading capacity.

Muarray will be an interesting one to watch all the same. Big price for a zero gamer. Hes our smokey of this years draft/trade period.

I'm hoping for Barry. Add him to our draft haul and the pace/xfactor of our team will go through the roof.

I agree Dom Barry would have been a nice mature aged addition to compliment our midfield mix but he's off the board.

Port took him with pick 61. We could have had him at 60 if we hadn't have passed.

Loved your posts on JS.
Very much appreciated.
I'm sure you'll be proven a very good judge.

My take on the draft process is that if you can bring in 2 AFL talents each year you will be in good shape long term. As I just said on the draft board I had 3 and a 1/2 sure things in this draft. Stephenson became the half as we crept closer and it seemed his heart issues were less and less significant.

He remains a half mainly because of comments he made about needing to watch his diet to manage the condition. At this point I’d be calling him spaghetti because my 15 yo goddaughter puts his arms to shame. Now if he struggles to add the bulk ala Oxley, Broomhead, Aish and WHE given he plays a more contested game than most outside runners I have concerns. Daisy was able to do it with a wiry frame, but there’s no guarantees that Stephenson can be the same level of competitor. Either way though I feel confident enough that he’s one of the two hits we needed.

Our next two picks were obviously more speculative, but given their mix of traits and where the game is going I’d say we’re 50/50 to get another hit there. From that perspective I can’t complain. A lot of pressure is now on to land Lynch and the club seem to have been very purposeful about their approach this off-season so at this stage we’ve done alright aside from the deal on Murray. Pressure’s on the coaching group now!
I think he clarified in an interview with Ralph after he was selected that needing to watch ‘what he puts in his body’ was more about conflicting medication like some antibiotics that could mess with his medication, rather than it being more diet related.

Not that that gives any guarantee he can bulk up, but if he stays skinny, it’s likely due to being genetically dispositioned that way rather that being held back by what he can eat.

Does look to have a case of the WHE’s about him though.

We say that every year don't we? Seems to never eventuate. :drunk:
Cox and Moore and Grundy all tall. Cox very very very tall.
McLarty is very tall too.
