Profile
Mynott was one of the premier stoppage specialists in the TAC this year where he dominated in the middle when coming from school football. Mynott's numbers as a first string midfielder where impressive where he had a patch of 4 games where he averaged almost 28 touches. Mynott was also very solid in his 3 games for Vic Metro often being one of their bigger ball winners and i believe had the highest tackle count for Vic Metro with one game having 9. Mynott's emergence this year as a bonafide inside midfielder has been impressive, he has taken what made him great as a half-forward last year which include his great hands and attack on the ball which is exactly what you need for the inside midfielder role. Mynott has elite endurance but his speed is his main issue although his quick hands and agility make him look quicker so i dont see it being a major issue for him.

Mynott's point of difference is his ability to go forward and kick goals, he is more than capable overhead he is even capable of taking a hangar (as seen above) and his clean hands make him just as good at ground level. Mynott is a natural footballer who is still learning to play the inside midfield role and considering how light he is he has plenty of room for improvement in that role. Mynott will work his ass off to make it at AFL level and he is a rookie prospect that im extremely excited about and he is exactly what we are after - a tough inside midfielder.

Will leave DPS to add his own in.

Snoop picked it in his phantom rookie draft, originally had him going at #63 in the ND.

12 - ESSENDON

TRENT MYNOTT
EASTERN RANGES / MIDFIELDER / 184CM

Caulfield Grammer kid who I think is a really smart footballer and who can play a few different roles. Quite like him around the middle because he is quite good at the stoppages, gets through traffic pretty well, runs both ways, applies good tackle pressure and uses it really well. Averaged 22 possessions which is decent and had a good carnival and impressed for sure. Watched his vision again recently and looks a real player. Knock is his speed.

Knightmare had him going in the ND.

70 Hawthorn - Trent Mynott
Height, Weight:
185cm, 75kg
Profile: Speedy, ball-winning midfielder who loves to tackle and works hard both ways.

After reading both not sure if he's speedy or not.

Bishop reckons he was the best player overlooked in the ND.

Trent Mynott for me - but in saying that. A lot of clubs aren't going to use too many picks for 18 yr olds on Monday. One club had 1 name left on their list, others had none.

Came 5th in the 2km TT at the draft combine.

1- Dylan Moore 6.09 Mins
2- Lachie O'Brien 6.12 Mins
3- GRYAN MIERS 6.13 Mins (Glandular Fever)
4- Andrew Brayshaw 6.14 Mins
5- Trent Mynott 6.14 Mins
6- Aiden Domic 6.15 Mins
7- Angus Styles 6.17 Mins
8- Chagkouth Jiath 6.17 Mins
9- Nathan Murphy 6.21 Mins
10- Jaidyn Stephenson 6.21 Mins
11- Ethan Floyd 6.25 Mins

Somewhere had his testing results; he seems to have good agility and is reasonably quick off the mark, but isn’t super fast once he’s moving, if that distinction makes sense.

In car terms; 0-60 is great, but he struggles to get to 100

Nice pick. His issue is his light frame and not his ability. May take a couple of seasons to see what we get but he has one thing in his favor and that is he can play.

I really liked his work bursting through at the stoppage from his first few steps. Considering his light frame that's pretty impressive.

Taken from the AFL website.

Who they drafted: Trent Mynott (Eastern Ranges)

Summary: The Bombers bolstered their inside midfield division by selecting the 73kg Mynott. He thrives in the contest, reads the ball off hands well, is a serious competitor, has good game sense and will impress those at the club with his attitude. However, he needs to build up his upper body to take on onballers at AFL level. Mynott's pace is not an asset but his agility and aerobic running are a couple of his stronger traits. Cassidy Parish, the brother of Darcy, was another considered for the role but just missed out. - Dinny Navaratnam

What the club says: "We were looking to bolster our midfield, particularly inside. He (Mynott) demonstrated he can play that role. He's really developed this year under Darren Bewick at Eastern (Ranges). He's a young developing player and we think that in time, he can fill a bit of a breach for us." - Recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro

Strikes me as someone in the Rory Atkins mould. Neat, smart, well rounded footballer who slipped because he's not a massive kid or a spectacular athlete. Hannebery, Sloane, Merrett and Gray also fall into this category, but let's just get him one game first.

I sense he's a bit of a bargain, I wouldn't have blinked if we picked him in the 3rd or 4th rounds.

Welcome Trent Mynott.
Good to see an inside mid picked.
Just need him to bulk up now and get some more development through the VFL.

He's the new recruit I'm most interested in watching next year. He has no apparent deficiency except for physical immaturity but then he also put out an elite 2km time trial.

Fantasia and Gleeson announced themselves almost immediately as AFL players though I have to say that Mynott seems a long way in front of those two. We'll know pretty early next year if we have a player.

It's interesting and encouraging that Dodoro was so specific about his inside skills, we seem more confident in him than we do in Guelfi, despite the fact that Guelfi has done it to some acclaim in a senior setting.
