Not an easy thing to do based on the fact that trades mean more drat picks but ignoring that bit for a moment, in this, ultimate definition of an off season thread, what would your best 22 look like right now if you only included players that your team personally drafted (so no trades).

For the Swans

B: Nick Smith, Heath Grundy, Lewis Melican
HB: Jarrad McVeigh, Dane Rampe, Jake Lloyd
C: Dan Hannebery, Tom Mitchell, Zak Jones
HF: Kieren Jack, Sam Reid, George Hewett
F: Gary Rohan, Tim Membrey, Tom Papley
R: Sam Naismith, Luke Parker, Isaac Heeney
INT: Shane Biggs, Nic Newman, Callum Mills, Will Hayward

So basically

Out
Kennedy
Franklin
Tippett

In
Membrey
Biggs
Mitchell

Obviously not as good a team without Buddy in it, but it would still be a team challenging for the top 4 I think.

What about your team?

B: Sheppard Mackenzie Nelson
HB: Hurn Barrass Schofield
C: Gaff Sheed Duggan
HF: Partington McGovern Ryan
F: Rioli Darling LeCras
R: Naitanui Shuey Ebert
INT: Masten Lycett Hutchings Cole

Hard to do considering there is no Kennedy, Yeo, Redden, Cripps or Jetta, all first 18 players this season. Had to include a player that hasn't even debuted yet and one clearly on the way out (LeCras). I probably missed out a couple or so but meh, if we fielded this line-up this year we would struggle to not finish bottom 4.

Edit - I like Lycett and Hutchings but that interchange makes me spew. Our list profile has changed significantly since last year, was considering chucking in untried players (so far) like Venables and Ryan.

We take out Dunn, Howe, Treloar, Adams, Wells, Crisp and WHE from our best 22. Varcoe, Greenwood, Aish and Murray on the cusp.

Safe to say, pretty shithouse side without them.

Edit: Didn't realise you could add in players you'd drafted out. Beams, Shaw and Williams would be handy but don't really make up for what we've drafted in.

StKilda wouldn't be able to field a team, well a competitive one anyway!

Freo would lose Bennell, BHill, Hamling, Wilson Kersten, Matera and McCarthy from the squad, five possibly six starting 22!

Hayden Ballantyne ~ Michael Apeness ~ Sean Darcy

Michael Walters ~ Matt Taberner ~ Darcy Tucker

Adam Cerra ~ Lachie Neale ~ Stephen Hill

Lachie Weller ~ Michael Johnson ~ Connor Blakely

Luke Ryan ~ Alex Pearce ~ Griffin Logue

Aaron Sandilands ~ Nat Fyfe ~ David Mundy

Brennan Cox ~ Brady Grey ~ Ed Langdon ~ Ethan Hughes

So in effect, probably 2 years behind where they currently are if you don't factor in that they were all traded for picks that would have been used. I also took back the Weller for pick 2 trade, even though technically Freo did draft Brayshaw!

We are excellent with this, with perhaps a fwdline kp issue. Don't have time for the full write up but...

Add Ward, Griffen, Jones, Stringer, Higgins, Harbrow...

Lose Trengove, Suckling, Biggs, Boyd.. not sure if Schache could reliably be called best 22.

Probably forgetting a few

FB: Ciaran Byrne, Sam Rowe, Harrison McCreadie
HB: Tom Williamson, Jacob Weitering, Kade Simpson
C: Sam Petrevski-Seton, Ed Curnow, Marc Murphy
HF: Charlie Curnow, Levi Casboult, Jarrod Garlett
FF: Harry McKay, Jack Silvagni, Zac Fisher
R: Matthew Kreuzer, Patrick Cripps, Paddy Dow
I: David Cuningham, Lochie O'Brien, Nick Graham, Cam O'Shea

Sam Rowe, Ed Curnow, Jarrod Garlett and Cam O'Shea all were drafted by other clubs before Carlton got them but they were all drafted by Carlton in the National, preseason or Rookie drafts so they should all count.

What’s Ah Chee doing in there?
