No only once and only after i asked you a few times to stop Pm me and you mentioned my wife.

Last year hamstring tendinitis took away Jack Steven's explosive speed, but he looks to have that back, and has had a full preseason, so with us now having all these inside options that you speak of, it ought to free Jack up to get back some of the run and carry he's lost in recent years- when we've needed him to do more of the in-and-under grunt work. That could help a bunch.

Dermot was suggesting the same thing this guy said today, I think he's heard it and run with it. It's a pretty fair call and something Dermot stole of Plow anyway. We do have a glut of big inside mids and not a lot of outside pace or multi dimensions to our midfield. Dermot actually suggested using Billings in the centre to break up the sameness. He did say much what I've been saying in that the team plays with a huge amount of competitiveness and spirit. He pretty much said we need to bring in more star power which is all fair. Jack Steven makes a huge difference when fit, Seb also plays outside these days but lack explosive pace.

ha ha ha we have enough run and carry - steven , billings , sinclair , acres , gresham , savage and throw hunter and coffield if they get a go - with armitage , steele , dunstan and koby stevens feeding them

They can’t all play or we could be slowest side ever o play afl. Arno back means one of Steele dunstan or Stevens just can’t play.

Dunstan - One of our leaders already
Steele - Already a young star

Stevens unfortunately has to make way.

Well Steven did it a lot more back in say his first B&F winning year (when Lenny Hayes was still here to do most of the inside stuff), so he can do it as well as most, if he's freed up to do it.

Our next best at it is probably Savage, who for the last 8 games last year (once he returned to the side) was ranked 4th in the comp for metres-gained (over that period). Need him to keep playing like that, or better and consistently for the year.

Newnes would be our next best (averages about 430+ metres gained), or Roberton, and Seb Ross has really added outside run to his game in the last couple of years. Then we'll be looking for Sinclair and Acres to really step up in this regard as well.

I was thinking today about how crazy it is that we haven't given Savage a go on a wnig since he first started. Perhaps with more structured mids around him he could be the player we recruited him to be.

The problem we have is none of them can really play forward apart from Steven and then we are to slow. That means they have to rotate through the middle only so we are very slow whatever combination you use

But is he talking about how we were last year, or in recent years, or how we'll be this year, with Stuv looking like having his speed back (which makes a massive difference- especially if we're now able to free him up more, to do less of the grunt work), Seb now being much more outside, and with Gresh and hopefully Acres likely to spend a lot more time through the midfield and wings this year?

Dunstan off his first full preseason also looks much more sharp with his movements than he has so far in his time with us and Steele will hopefully start to show more of the speed he showed in combine testing, now that he's got a full preseason under his belt. They reckon he's spreading more, more dynamic and getting to a lot more contests now that he's a lot fitter. Then there's one or both of Clark and Coffield potentially added to the mix. Armo also had WAY more run and carry to his game the last time he was full fit and relatively injury free (it's where he got all those extra disposals from), so it will be interesting to see how he goes in that regard.

Unless things go pretty awry, I imagine our midfield will be much more multi-dimensional this year and significantly better than it was last year- when it was still good enough to get us to 3rd for clearance differential and for our forward line to have the equal-4th most shots for goal, from the 2nd easiest spots.

Dermot actually suggested using Billings in the centre to break up the sameness.
I really think you're listening to too much SEN or whoever it is and not thinking enough for yourself and this is one good reason why you shouldn't listen too much to those who don't follow us closely.

Billings has only set foot into the middle of the ground a handful of times for us since his debut that I'm aware of and I reckon there's a good reason for that. It's not his go.

The one that Dermott probably should have suggested is Jade Gresham, who I imagine we'll start to see a bunch more in there this year for exactly that reason, like we did last week. Next would be Blake Acres, who had 15 disposals in a quarter the last time he spent a quarter in there and who brings something different to the table, with his extra height and ability to break lines and tackles.

The irony of all this midfield negativity (and I agree) is, if Freeman all of a sudden come good (and yes it is a big If ) and Hunter becomes the polish we need ,the discussion becomes so much more positive

plugger i'm hoping steele and dunstan have a outstanding season and most probably stevens misses out - do you think lonie gets a game or do you bring in hunter and coffield

freeman as we know will find it hard to get a run now - he will have to come back through the vfl if he is right and will be fighting for a position with hunter and coffield - i would still like to see phillips get a run due to the kid being the 2nd best runner in the team

I have been feeling a bit negative after the JLT mainly, it's nothing I have heard on SEN. I said the same things last season perhaps not with as much disdain though.

I think Steven makes a huge difference but also other clubs worked out our over reliance on him and even teams not big on tagging mind him heavily now. Our only defence of him getting tagged is to put him up forward where he isn't as useful anyway. Lots of our kids should improve but all the other teams in similar situations are improving all the time too. Brisbane, GCS, Essendon, Hawks and Carlton all look to have improved. Even WCE have done an on the hop refresh and won't be bad, surely the Dogs aren't going to stay flat forever etc.

Basically we still lack stars and unless some develop this year we could be treading water for a long time. We are deep and play hard contested footy but we don't even look close to teams like Sydney who play with spirit but have absolute stars across every line of the field.

We look an imbalanced side and so much of our rapid improvement is relying on players taking big leaps which may or may not happen. I'm getting older and we still don't look close to premiership. I hope we have rapid growth this year but I'm not convinced it will happen enough to jump up any more. I can see some positives and have said if everything goes right with injuries, pinching close ones etc, we could finish as high as top 4 but just as easily a few things could go wrong and we finish bottom 4.

Gresham or Billings would do anything to get a bit more run and class through the middle. We still really need to start looking at getting some pace and spread runners soon though regardless.
