My god...1970 must be the only season ever where East beat North 4 times...can recall many a horrible winter's day at York Park growing up watching the inevitable slaughter...
Not sure about that, wouldn't be many other seasons, if any at all.
1970 was the year "Mousey" Waters came back to East after he'd had a few years at Latrobe (and won the Wander Medal in 1968).
I know we were lurking around in the bottom of the finals pack when we found a purple patch and won the 1967 flag, and I'm not sure what happened in 1969, but that's pretty much all she ever wrote...North, however, were historically the least successful of the 3 city teams coming into 1948 when the NTFA expanded to 6 teams and then went on to dominate forever afterwards...

The 1981 Winfield Championship / Greater Northern Football League
combined the minor rounds of NTFA and NWFU
then went to seperate final series to decide the ntfa and nwfu premiers
who then played off in a third grand final to decide the GNFL premier
this arrangment lasted the 1981 and 1982 seasons
In March 1982 NTFA clubs City South, North Launceston, Launceston joined the
TANFL (state) league with Devonport hopeful of the tenth spot (for '83)
however the proposed state league idea collapsed as unfinancial

Found some old ladders I scribbled down a few decades ago. East beat North twice in the finals in 1967, so they might have scored at least two wins in the roster season. Pretty hard to imagine 1970 not being the only clean sweep though...

Yes, in 1967 they did win two of the four roster matches vs North L, as well as the two finals.
Ahh yes the first season of the GNFL!
All came about because the NWFU and NTFA clubs were unhappy with the arrangement forced upon them by the TANFL to play in the Winfield Statewide Cup the year before and the TANFL's cherry-picking of northern clubs to play in the proposed TFL Statewide League for 1982, thus sending the remaining clubs back to junior status.
"Bullbars" Bennett, the then TANFL president then pulled rank and ruled any player representing Tasmania must play in the TANFL to be eligible. Then the northern clubs all broke away from the governing body in protest.
East beat North in every match in 1969-70 - an 8 game winning streak after going 6-49 between 1948-65. From 1966-71, when East were good for the only time in their history, they went 18-8 in 26 games. So in answer to the rivetting question, East beat North 4 times in a season 3 times - in 1967 (4-2), and in the other two seasons 4-0. North, however, not only ended up with a 102-27 record over the Demons for their entire history, but also went on a 32 match winning run from 1972, taking full advantage of 8 consecutive East wooden spoons, until East stopped the rot in 1980! East would only ever win 1 more match in the NTFA against North from another 14 starts, as well as beating them early in the 1986 TFL before merging with City and becoming South Launceston...

Interesting to see the bottom two sides ended up playing in the TFL the following season.
Cooee ended up as the Burnie Hawks and Devonport looked monties to make the finals only to run out of steam and miss.
