There have been some recent rumblings, mostly in the west about a few cases that , on the surface , seem to have some questions about them

Andrew Mallard

Daryl Beamish

John Button

Have all had their convictions overturned. There are a few current cases before the AG for consideration.

Gene Gibson

WA Police commissioner Karl O’Callaghan today said he “deeply regretted” the part his officers had played in that miscarriage of justice adding that he was willing to meet with Mr Gibson personally to express his regret.

Arthur Greer

And now Scott Austic also has questions over police mismanagement

Post your stuff here

Great thread, have subscribed.

Reservations here also over Austic's defence. IMO if he is unsuccessful in having his conviction overturned, he might try again on the grounds of incompetence of counsel. (on the face of it)

One of the things forgotten is there are victims , families and friends who are also denied justice if it is false justice

True. Everybody loses.

Two girls their father, a mother her son, it's hard enough for the family of the convicted without the knowledge of a set up. Family and friends of the victim who would have seen that doccy Sunday will probably be distraught and feel their lives upended again.

Play "Spot the Difference"
Bottom image taken of table at Scott Austic house immediately after declared a crime scene and sealed.
Top image taken 30 hours later adding a cigarette packet with victims blood used to convict him.

1. Cigarette packet appears
2. Blue battery moved to infront of ashtray
3. Pink stubby holder standing up
4. White box moved away from wall
5. ?

9. Plastic bag has moved
10. thing in front of plastic bag in top pic disappears in bottom pic (remembering the bottom pic is actually the 'before' shot)
11. Spray can has spun around

It appears to me that almost everything is different between the two pics, as if the table's been cleared and everything has been put back. Well almost everything, plus an additional item.

Gives new meaning to "could you set the table please?"

Where is the plastic bag, spockets?

14. Has ashtray been moved towards the outside edge of red square?

Back right hand side of the table as we look at it. I just realised it's the tablecloth! Oops!
That thing infont of the back right table cloth corner still disappears. Looks like the black pen there in the original (bottom) image.

Was this in the days of film still? Didn't they get the original photo developed before taking the second 30 hours later? I thought they would have done a better job of putting everything back in it's place.

Or... was it used to apply blood to a certain cigarette packet and then they 'accidentally' spilled the rest of the vial of blood on the table. Oops.

Swabbed to transfer just a tiny amount onto the cigarette packet at Thorne's, then used the Hemastix strip as a prop later at Austic's house as if it was legit.

How awful.
