2017 AFL State of Origin team selections

Half the TAC cup teams are considered 'metro' and the other half 'country' when the U18 championships come up.

Clearly, the outer suburbs (and some not so outer) are deemed 'country' in order to create a more even split.
I would have guessed all of Geelong, Bendigo, NB, Murray and Gippsland would be enough for country; given three of them are in the five most prolific drafted players in the TAC Cup I believe (along with Calder and Oakleigh).

They could. I mean I agree that WA would win 8 out of 10 times, but the NSW/ACT could easily give them a scare.
WA has a far stronger midfield, back and ruck division, and even though the forward line of NSW is quite good, WA has the 2 best KPF's in the comp plus Hogan, and their smalls have kicked 234 goals in their last 129 games, the NSW smalls have kicked 197 in their last 125 games. Would be closer to WA winning 19/20 times than 8/10.
Based on the NSW/ACT team that was posted on page 2 anyway

Have to agree with this.

WA would get closer to beating the Victoria teams, than NSW/ACT would get to beating them.

Wait, really? So players like Baguley (a Frankston boy) would be a VC boy? I just assumed that any team inwards of Pakenham/Cranbourne/Frankston would be considered Metro as they're officially part of Melbourne Suburbia.

Yep...The Mornington Peninsula and Casey Cardinia Leagues are not considered metropolitan leagues..same as the Riddell League in the north-west, Sunbury, Melton and Werribee Centrals are also considered country clubs.

Tasmania side but thin but here's a crack

Birchall Mohr Howe
Thurlow schade k.kolo
l.Weller Willis lonergan
M.Weller Riewoldt Lovell
Grey brown greenwood
Hall nankervis Robinson

J.kolo, Russell, Harwood,fox

Emergency Bellchambers,Webster, Green

Thoughts? Bit thin in key defenders and midfield rotations, strong half back, key forwards
Don't mind the team, could be competitive if all fit

Bellchambers would get a game as a 3rd tall forward wouldn't he? Alex Pearce would be FB as well IMO.

Howe - Pearce - Birchall
Thurlow - Schade - K Kolodjashnij
M Weller - Lonergan - Webster
Grey - Riewoldt - Greenwood
Bellchambers - Brown - Green
Nankervis - Hall - Robinson
J Kolodjashnij - L Weller - Harwood - Fox

Shepherd Rance Wilson

Johannisen McGovern Yeo

B.Hill Fyfe Coniglio

Walters Franklin Duncan

J.Garlett J.Kennedy Hogan

Naitanui T.Mitchell Cripps

Int: Sandilands/Ryder O’Meara D.Swallow J.Martin

Would give Vic Country and Vic Metro a run for their money.

Who I'd have for VM in bold. May have missed a few. VM would still win.

Also, Hooker 100% gets a game ahead of Sheppard and JJ

Neville Jetta would get in ahead of Martin/Swallow/O’Meara/Johannisen/Shepherd

Can you please do a VC team
VC have a better midfield, VM stronger at either end:

FB: Bews - T McDonald - B Reid
HB: J Lloyd - Henderson - Witherden
MF: Ablett - Martin - M Crouch
HF: Dangerfield - Cameron - Dahlhaus
FF: Elliott - S Reid - Roughead
OB: McEvoy - Oliver - Selwood
IC: B Crouch - Heppell - Oliver - Steven

Made a mistake with J Cameron in VM.

Tom McDonald is a garbage FB imo, you'd want to have a better KPD there and play him either as a loose man or a forward. As a pure defender I reckon his brother has almost over taken him already.

SA

B: Andrew Mackie - Heath Grundy - Jack Hombsch

HB: Brodie Smith - Phil Davis - Rory Laird

C: Brad Ebert - Bryce Gibbs - Chad Wingard

HF: Daniel Menzel - Justin Westhoff - Orazio Fantasia

F: Eddie Betts - Brett Eddy - Paul Puopolo

R: Brodie Grundy - Lachie Neale - Jack Viney

Int: Sam Jacobs - Luke Dunstan - Luke Brown - Bernie Vince

Strengths

- Best selection of small forwards of any state in Betts, Menzel, Fantasia, Puopolo and Wingard.
- Defence is decent. Davis, Laird and Mackie are arguably in AA form right now while Smith is thereabouts. Grundy and Hombsch are solid talls.
- 2 of the top 5 ruck-men in the AFL with Jacobs and Grundy.
- Enough top end midfielders to be competitive with Gibbs, Neale, Viney, Vince and Ebert who is in good form at the moment.

Weaknesses

- Key forwards. Westhoff leads the attack at CHF with 1 goal for the year and (yes I'm being serious) Brett Eddy is probably the best key forward SA has right now, and he was just omitted.
- Depth, everywhere.

Realistically we would be destroyed by Vic and WA and probably even NSW. SA has had top draft picks in recent years but many of these fade into forgotten players, Toumpas, Dunstan, Aish, Scharenberg, Mayes, Menzel (Troy), Durdin (maybe a bit harsh). Hopefully some of these guys can develop into elite players in the later stages of their careers along with the upcoming contingent of Francis, Milera, Burton, Hayward etc.
No Shane Edwards? Please...
