Didn't see the game so my question is based on what has been written here.

What exactly dos the phrase "that level of committment/effort/work rate" or similar actually mean? We hear it often enough but we always seem to end up in the same place. Nothing ever seems to change for long.

Lipinski , what's the verdict ?
Not great. Did a couple of nice things. kicked a goal. Skills were a bit ordinary in the wet conditions. But he wasn't alone in that facet.
He looks a lot bigger than last season. Not sure if that's an optical illusion since he no longer rocks the shitty headband.

since the mid point of last year played 20, lost 13, won 7

with a lot of heavy defeats

most of those wins were against bottom 4 teams ex ess (x2) and st kilda

im struggling to think how we went from playing premiers type footy to bottom 4 style in 11 games post flag

Yeah, it's not great, but we have a flag and the Dockers are still nowhere near one.

Melbourne 54 years, Saints 52 years, Carlton 23 years, Adelaide 20 years, Kangaroos 19 years, Essendon 18 years...

Dogs.....18 months. That's our Premiership drought and it's easy to lose sight and be greedy.

Nothing wrong with demanding success either, that's a positive for our club I'd much rather us have that mindset than have a loser mentality, like the Dees or Carlton (of the past decade).

So, we have a rebuild - it was always going to happen.

Have we found players? Yes we have. English and Richards will be stars, we know about Bont and there are many other causes for optimism.

We take the little wins, whether it's four points or an individual player or players shining in a game. The wheel will turn and I have faith we'll get it right. Fix a few holes, but the signs are there that we'll shoot up the ladder again and soon.

Don’t mind a rebuild, but 18 months after winning a flag with one of the youngest ever teams? That doesn’t make sense to me. Guess it’s irrelevant as here we are, but still can’t get my head around that shift so quickly.

Maybe it's not a full rebuild, just filling a few holes. We still have all of the building blocks.

Who would have thought after three awful years and October 2014, we would win a flag two years later? Things change quickly and they will again.

thats a mind boggling no doubt

do you think in hindsight we should have recruited more mature players earlier? we knew morris, boyd, murphy were going to leave massive holes.

i know we can today look back and say its a key reason why we are struggling.

Happened to Hawthorn in 2009, mini rebuild required due to retirements.
We lost Morris, Libba,Picken and Adams very early and they have been dropping like flies ever since. Our hand was forced.

The following players are so bad at tackling that they are a liability at AFL level:

Webb
Lipinski
Daniel
Dale

All came to the club since Macca departed :smirk:

It would be good to track missed tackle stats like rugby. They really destroy the team defence set up.

We looked really small again last night, but tackling is mostly intent.

It makes sense to me.

We lost All Australian Matthew Boyd, our captain and spiritual leader Bob (sure he didn’t play but his presence was huge), and Morris is injured. That’s a huge chunk of quality missing.

We cobbled together a backline that year and then lost Hamling. Other guys like Cordy are just young and they will take time.

We lost Stringer, a high draft pick and undoubtably a talent.

But I think we’ve drafted some gems in English, Richards and Naughton. I also think Lipinski will come good. It’s frustrating because I think we all got a taste of success and were hoping for a sustained period of success. I think it’s going to come but we’re still a couple of years away from that sort of sustained tilt. Remember in 2005 and 2006 when we were up and about and showed some great signs. I see 2016 as being a bit like those years except our planets aligned and put together a magical month of footy that delivered a flag. What we need to be patient for is our next 2008,09 and 10. And I think thats shaping up as 20,21, and 22. Exciting times ahead with speed humps of frustration.

Nice response. Fingers crossed.

Positives for me are Boyd, Daniel, Naughton. That’s about it. And Macrae showed he can beat a tag.

We really need to start playing Bontempelli more in the midfield. It’s all well and good to be flexibal, but having your gun midfielder parked inside 50 when we’re getting smashed makes no sense.

I’m still confident we have a good list, but clearly it’s not gonna do anything this year.

Desperately miss Picken, Liber and Morris. But I guess we have to get used to that as only one of them are probably coming back next year.

How bad was Bailey Dale ?

Where was he playing though? I think he was a victim of Bev’s “anyone can play any position “ mantra. He looked lost
